As the Newbie Game Manager, I'm trying to come up with a list of acceptable power roles which may be used by hosts in Open or Semi-Open newbie setups. Hosts creating their own setup will have to approve the setup with either me, or anyone from the standard balance team.
Right now I have as follows:
Town Sane Cop Medic Jailkeeper Vigilante Veteran
Mafia Roleblocker Rolecop Godfather
Miller I don't think is really appropriate for Newbie games, nor is it particularly fitting for mini games in general.
Framer I am on the fence with, but again I don't think it really fits in a newbie game.
Any thoughts on this? Any roles that should or should not be present in newbie games?
Additionally, I'd like to have some preset setups that hosts can use. Right now I only have 3: F11, 2of4 and C9++. Are their any other standard mini setups that anyone would recommend for a newbie game?

You can't have sane cops without millers. Millers are a must have to induce some doubt, and to give mafia the potential to argue their way out of a cop check. Otherwise when a cop has a red check its as good as a safe lynch, and the only option the caught mafia is to counterclaim/claim the cop is scum, which most times won't work.
Framers are more fun for newbies than godfathers anyway, since they are an "active" role, as opposed to a passive one.
There's no need to coddle newbies by removing millers and framers really.
Also, C9++ is totally unsuitable for newbie games.
EDIT: Wow, I sound so negative today.
<3 everyone

As much as I would love to, I just don't have the time for a large PM game.

get rid of Veterans if you have a medic or jailkeeper in the game

Veteran is a lame role. Nobody knows how to use it well and it doesn't take much skill to play either.
I'll also argue against millers for fun, and because nobody knows how to play DT anyway. Make them stronger and you force mafia to do something instead of just sit back and hope the jubjubs kill themselves off.

You could make it so that the cop has a, say, 25% chance of being insane so that mafia has some time in case they get checked early.

No. Sanities do not belong in a newbie game.

Palmar should be putting up his game as soon as he gets on his computer. With the climatic conclusion of GM's game, I gave iGrok the go ahead to put up his game as well, and he said it should be up on Saturday.

But what's the difference between sanity and the possibility of millers? With sanity, cops can find out 100% sure after enough checks. With millers it becomes much more a game of chance. Between the two for a newbie game, I'd much prefer sanity being an option.

I'd prefer having a Framer instead of Millers/GF. As in, a Framer that can frame townies (return "guilty") or frame scum (return "innocent"). That way scum are actively trying to get the DT to have bad checks, instead of it having to rely on luck (in the case of millers or GF). If the DT gets a scum check on a scum, it's not only based on the skill/luck of the DT, but also based on the lack of skill/luck of the Framer that didn't frame that scum. That way, people can argue about whether his target was framed or not, which would depend on how that player was acting and if scum thought it would be wise to frame him, or taking into account chance, etc.
At least it beats "Oh well maybe I'm miller" as a cop out.
Thoughts?

I don´t think Framers have a place in a newbiegame. It´s easy to guess who the cop will check, so the cop will never return a correct result. I don´t know why there should be ANY anti-DT roles in a small game. If you draw enough attention to yourself to get checked, or leave the DT alive for too long, then you die, so you have to make sure to find the DT first. The way to counter a DT is to (fucking) kill it.

Well, if scum don't have a RBer or their RBer is dead, a DT is basically a nightmare to scum, even if he claims (since a medic can protect him at night).
The thing is like some others said, if a DT claims with a scum check, it's basicly game over for that guy, he will get lynched 90% of the time, and there's no way for scum to do anything about it if you don't include Framers/millers/etc. It can even happen on D2, and hinder scum a lot.
But well.

Sane DT with no Millers/Framers in a small game is almost impossible for scum to deal with IMO.
