Even if we opened up another game, the game would not fill up without people /out'ing of Caller's game. The situation that would result is we have Caller's game and the new game both half-full with nobody else to join. This forum can take games with 30+ players, Caller´s game should have filled up allready ago. Where are the players?

Well, it's a Caller game for one, so you're going to get a number of players who aren't going to join because of that. However, that should probably be offset by the players who are only joining because it's a caller game.
Since school started back up, activity has dropped off precipitously on this forum. Games were really filling up fast during the summer, but since September hit...
There is also a fairly high rate of attrition for mafia players, at least on this forum(maybe on all mafia forums). The players who put in a lot of time get burned out and need a break, and the players who don't put in as much time get tired of being called terrible, or they simply don't have any passion for it.
I think GMarshals game will bring in a lot of new blood. Every game that goes by we lose players from the forum for various reasons, and we only gain new players rarely. Games with exposure, or blog posts telling people to join(which is how I found out about it, thanks BM ) are key to getting more players.

Why don't you invite old school players who are somewhat active on TL like seraph, camlito, divinek, 3lions etc?

I have this crazy idea of doing a live-report/commentary of an ongoing mafia game. The game would be hosted normally and played out normally. The only difference is that there will be a live-report thread outside of the mafia forum where I analyse and explain the game. This thread would allow people to actively discuss the game while it's going on.
pros:
- Visible thread
- Allows interaction
- Teaches hopefuls their first steps
- Less risk of interruption than simply hosting in a public forum
cons:
- People might be tempted to post in the game-thread anyway
- There will be public speculation about the game, which can influence players if they read it
I think that with an experienced group of players who are confident in their own ability to play the game, this could make for a very interesting experience, because much more than the classic "play a public game" idea, it actively allows players from outside mafia to interact and share their thoughts, so they really get the thrill of mafia.
If there is interest in this, I would gladly pass up my next mini game spot for someone hosting this, preferably a good writer (GMarshal? Flamewheel? :D), and I would take on the commentating/analysing duty, while 12 players or so play the game (smaller is better due attention span issues )
I would suggest not using an overly simple role-list, but no confusing roles. Just make sure there is some meat on the bones for people who are more interested in roles than analysis.
Edit: due to the extra town players (I am not terrible at scumhunting and I'll be analysing the game, along with all the newbies who might be interested in the thread) I'd probably help mafia out a little bit by giving them good roles, or adding an SK.

I agree about the attrition of Mafia Players, that could have a lot to do with it.

With Kitas game almost full I need a new game to advertise for, can we get Zona to post her normal game?
EDIT: Yes, the recruitment post is halfway done, although if anyone has any inspiring walls of text or incredible photoshopped images saying "I want YOU to play Mafia" I'm sure I can work them in.

Just include a picture of professor badass.

that's a pretty nice observation, there aren't 30 players around these days maybe we should just do some smaller games even though caller's game sounds really awesome, maybe it could wait for more active times ... dunno if anybody can successfully communicate with caller to postpone his game or if he just goes his own way but i think Forumite is on to something

yeah we need a hero host to get a 20 or less player game started!

"Why is Foolishness not making a game now?"
"Because he's the hero TLMafia deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll annoy him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A town watcher."

My game requires 18 signups, so I'm not sure it's the ideal game to start alongside callers.
Feel free to adjust the queue if you deem necessary Foolish.

I think something other than Caller´s game is needed at this time. It´s been 2 weeks since the signup started, it doesn´t have enough players, won´t start without a full game, and anyway Caller has disappeared. That reads dead game to me. I don´t care about the active games list right now, any game is better than no game at all, so if a host has a game and feel like running it now, I would welcome it. We can get back to the active games list when the active games are actually active, but right now the list doesn´t help.

I know the queue is full at the moment but I'm setting up plans for a massive triathalon style competition, Mafia, SC2 and Brood War. Each section will have a few parts as well, for example 1v1, 2v2, and FFA tourney for the starcraft sections. Mafia will probably have an IRC game, normal game and smurf game. It will be 16 players and invite only.
Theres gonna be a lot of prep work needed for it, but the plan is to hopefully have it in january some time. I'm hoping there will be some free space at that point, but it can be delayed longer if the queue still hasn't moved much. I'll be looking for 2-3 cohosts and possibly a streamer/caster for some of the games. The whole thing will probably be spread out over 4-8 weeks. PM me if you're interested in helping go through a few ideas.

Need normal game. Recruitment post is stagnating, and I *lose* things if they sit in my computer too long

Sounds awesome, but I can see a setup like this being extremely problematic, considering things like timezones and player skill level (e.g. if ver were to play it would be quite unfair for everyone :-P)

Timezones will be a bit annoying to deal with, but most people would be either EU or US which isn't too bad to deal with. Sorting out SC2 accounts on different regions will be a bit of a pain as well. (Shakes fist at Blizzard )
Ver might have an advantage in the 1v1 tourneys, but the plan would be to balance the 2v2 teams according to the 1v1 results. For the FFA, I would forsee him getting rushed by everyone
Anyway, given the slow pickup of games there's plenty of time to sort through all the possible pitfalls and problems.
