Wooo bump! Was browsing old games for ideas and found this.
I gotta say, I was actually pretty disappointed by Doubt. At first, I thought it was gonna do something really interesting, and contextualize their friendship and life experiences through a game that inherently discourages trust, thus making each other question what their whole relationship is based on. (hey, some people probably take the game really seriously) Then they had to go and actually kill somebody, and the thing just Battle Royal'd its way to the inevitably twisty conclusion. Also, as far as the identity of the killer goes...
+ Show Spoiler +I just asked myself at the beginning, "who makes the least sense as the wolf, aside from the protagonist?" and got it right. xD I was even all, "they're totally gonna pull a Saw at some point", though I didn't know how. Still don't know how it actually happened, aside from weeeooweeeooweeeoohypnotism. Plus, hypnotism is a damn lazy plot device. How else you gonna make the innocent girl do a complete 180? Gob forbid you actually give a character proper motivation and analyze-able behavior. rabble rabble rabble
However, after just a chapter, I'm definitely liking Liar Game a lot more. It seems to be a closer to what I thought Doubt would be.

Reading Liar Game again, I forgot how good it was. Didn't realize it had this many chapters though.

I can't find any links to the actual Doubt manga, that link from the OP doesn't have it.
EDIT: It says "Update Status: [not available]"
Anyways, about movies that are "seemingly" like Mafia:
Meh. It's basically a "whodunit?", but I don't think they are that good.
Why? Because it's always the same deal:
- There is a main protagonist that you know is CONFIRMED TOWN and can't be the killer
- If there is a woman protagonist she isn't the killer either.
- There is a VERY BAD MAN that is NEVER the killer and is just a misunderstood soul
- There is a fragile/innocent/friendly/lovely best friend/boyfriend/child/old lady and that one is ALWAYS the killer
- If that one isn't the killer, then the killer is a "weak" guy who got "killed" at some point (but you never saw the body) and then he appears at the end and reveals himself as the mastermind.
There is less suspense in those type of movies than the Teletubies, since you always know the end.
If they were more unpredictable, like having NO protagonist, and having VARIOUS killers that are not stereotypes then it would be better.
For instance, why can't the token black guy be the killer? And he's found out in the middle of the movie because of inconsistent behaviour or something? Why can't the killer be someone in plain sight (that's scummy as fuck and all), but he continues to survive because people think he's too scummy to be real?
Why aren't they more unpredictable like a real game of mafia?
Unless a movie/comic/manga/series does that, I wouldn't consider it "Mafia-esque" per se, and just a "whodunit?" ripoff with all the stereotypes that come from it
/rant

It is probably the closest thing I've encountered to an actual mafia game where you really have to pay attention and think. It doesn't follow the stereotypes you listed above. I highly recommend it, it's by the same team that did Ever17.

I don't have DS, but I'll check some youtube videos or playthroughs of it thanks

Yeah 999 is amazing. As for movies, the Liar game movie is quite good and more in mafia style. It's also unique material separate from the manga.

So, where can I read Doubt? Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I can't find any chapters or anything in that link from the OP

Oh yeah, but I'm gonna read the new Walking Dead issue first so this will have to wait

I guess that means I have to read the whole Liar Game manga in 2 days then?

Considering how good it is, you'd be hard pressed not to finish it in 1.

Just wait until you're tested by the final puzzle after your sixth play-through. :p
