For the mayor candidates I would probably vote for either Ink or Darth like most people but i'm doing it reluctantly. I just get a weird vibe from them.

Yellowink - reason i'm a bit suspicious is from all the previous stuff etc. People are willing to vote for him now because he is constantly in the spot light but if he were a red and he's mayor we can't role check him anyway so he'd be safe. I hope people are ready to lynch if needed >.>

Darth - experienced player from what I understand so he could be good at persuading people and getting votes.

If MTF were a candidate i'd vote for him willingly though, he just seems good.

YellowInk: Just wanted to point out, deconduo is not posting at the end of the day as he is in Ireland. His end of the day and ours don't match up, and like he said in his post, he'll be posting more when he gets back from work. So I wouldn't worry too much about what times people are posting, as this is an international community we won't all be awake and active at the same times all the time

At this point, I am very certain that both Darth and YellowInk are pro town (darth with his pm to inactive and yellowink for his posting behavior).

It doesn't matter if you vote for Darth or YellowInk. I just want they to get 1st and 2nd place. And to the other running candidates, you are making yourself suspicious by not voting on Darth or YellowInk who are very certain to be pro town.

And to the Mafia: You guys have NO chance for either the mayor or pardoner spot.

Just checked the voting thread and seems that YellowInk is ahead of Darth.

To be honest, I am more comfortable with Darth being the pardoner because he checks on Mayor's and the town's action. His role is equally if not greater than mayor's role. The requirement of Pardoner is to make good decision (especially in the late game if the mafia has significant voting influence) about when to pardon.

With YellowInk as the mayor, he has to listen to the logic of the town before voting and I will be comfortable with that.

@Brownbear (or should I say Brendan?): Yeah, I went to Oberlin (feels weird putting that in past tense now). I'm Will, though I think you knew that.

@MTF, zeks: I'm not running because I didn't feel like it ... same reason I didn't run in the last game I was in. Thanks for your support though. Heck, MTF, had you run I'd likely have voted for you, so I think we're in the same boat.

Also, if you notice, my username has no capital letters in it. This is a bit of a personal pet peeve, because it just looks horrible to see that capital "C" dragging my whole name down to the left side. It's so lopsided.

Darth wrote:
Dude, who manages their quoting. lol. I just quote crap and respond to it. I spoiler the big stuff when I remember to.

I do, lol. It's much easier to follow arguments this way imo.

---

Alright, onto points actually relevant to the game:

Darth wrote:
1) The fact that BB goes for pardoner, a great position for mafia and also a position more "under the radar" is suspicious to me.

If you'll read what I said earlier, I'm not sure pardoner is better for mafia anyway. It gets them out of a single lynch for free, then they immediately lose the pardoner the next day; Mayor pretty much buys the mafia an entire day as well (by giving them +2 vote power) but does it much less obviously.

The biggest benefit of either position is that the owner is un-rolecheckable and un-night-killable really. I don't know if mafia really cares which position they win as long as they win one of them. Assuming they're running (seeing as there were no mafia candidates in Pyrry's game which was a pretty similar setup, it's certainly possible no mafia are running).

Then again, it seems the consensus (at least from Darth and MTF) is that pardoner is more powerful for the mafia. Of course, mayor is more powerful for the town. . . .

YellowInk wrote:
The reason for doing it this way is because someone who is completely inactive will be modkilled. If I use my lynch on someone who is probably going to get modkilled anyway, this is a wasted lynch.

I agree with this. I'm going to cite precedent and reasoning here: someone who is mafia is far, far less likely to sit around and get modkilled than a town-aligned person. I think the only time I've seen a mafioso get modkilled is when Zona did in PYP mafia (which the mafia had all but won until he vanished and gave the town a free kill), but I've seen lots of vanilla townies get bored or something and get lightning'd.

That said, it's too early to say for sure who's gonna get modkilled since we still have about 10 hours before the end of Day 1.

Brownbear wrote:
the reason why another of our policies is Lynch all Liars.

I see this one in particular as a metagaming policy. In the short term (as in, this game) I'm not convinced it's actually the best way for us to win (lots of townies slip up and "lie", especially newer or inexperienced players. See zeks for a good example; I'm convinced his mistakes are just honest mistakes, because it's the same sort of stuff he did in Pyrry's game). If it's known that lying gets you killed, though, it's harder for mafia to hide.

---

Well, I said I'd vote this morning, and I guess it's time to follow through on that.

I guess I'm going with Darth in my vote, which I'll go post immediately after I submit this. My thoughts haven't really changed too much from last night. YellowInk's spotlight argument really applies every bit as much to Darth as it does to himself (they are the two most voluminous posters in the thread, after all, though it's clear Ink is more aggressive), and he seems levelheaded and he has some experience.

None of the candidates are really giving me a scum read right now. zeks is playing much like he did in Pyrry's game where I was convinced he was a blue because he advocated a play that only made sense if he was a blue (or Godfather claiming blue, but that's very dangerous in a fully-open setup) ... he turned out to be town though. Hopefully no one will flip out and vig him too soon this game :p

Darth and, yes, YellowInk have been constructively posting and are thrusting themselves in the spotlight. I've agreed with Darth's analysis a bit more, but they've both been a plus to the town thus far for sure. I think YellowInk had focused too much on mostly irrelevant details (the clue check, the actual numbers of zeks's DT suggestion) but nitpicking isn't necessarily a mafia trait ... I'm just hoping he doesn't get the town too caught up in it at the expense of more important discussions.

Brownbear is saying good stuff, but much of that saying good stuff comes after other people have already called attention to it. It's easy to follow others' good ideas regardless of which side you're on ... I'd be more wary of BB than the other candidates right now personally, but if he keeps posting we'll be able to get a better read on him.

Something we should watch with all the active posters (including people who make one or two quality posts a day, like MTF) is for their activity to drop. Getting in the town's good graces early on then shutting up and not having anyone notice ... dangerous for the town to potentially let a mafioso do this.

I have to say the candidates this time around are much more solid than the candidates in Pyrry's game, where the best candidate was posting like the worst one in this race. This is a nice turn of events. Hopefully the elected roles don't lead us to a horrific slaughter like the last time I played.

Personally, I'm not "very certain" about either of them, but definitely more so for YI and DTA (since they are both very active and have given good tips/strategies), so that narrows it down.

Between the two, I'm more comfortable with voting for DTA because he's less provocative and seems to be more level-headed. Also, Darth lacks any clues (at least right now) so I've decided (finally) to vote for him. Really, both seem fine to me, but my gut says DTA.

My vote for first lynch would also go to laxer since he's on both lists, making him the best choice imo.

My vote has been cast on YellowInk. As many have pointed out the clue about printer does seem too obvious, so I won't worry much about him being mafia.

DTA brought up a good point in that there is nothing else in YellowInk's profile to write clues about, but since it's a day 1 clue I don't think we should put too much thought into that just yet.

I also like his aggressive style, should bring all the townies together efficiently.

@Lunar: Loving the confidence behind DTA and Ink. I do hope you are right in the end. BB and I are going to be suspicious regardless if we vote or not

Since at this point its pretty certain both of them will be elected, its just the matter of who we want as Mayor and who we want as Pardoner. Personally I'd rather have Ink as Mayor - now just cause I said that doesn't mean you guys should go lynching me day 1 @_@

crate: I totally forgot what I did in previous games lol I just remember I've always gotten town or medic - think I ran for mayor once before too just to catapult myself into a role

Something to think about:

How many of the 4 candidates are mafia? Tbh it would definitely be a shame / missed opportunity for the mafia to not send out a candidate at all in such a crucial point of the game.

Well, since the consideration of Darth and YellowInk being pro town was made about 12 hours ago, Zek and Brownbear ran for election a significant amount of time before that, we can't really tell if they are pro town or not. I can give you an argument (there are many more) from both sides:

Town
If mafia wants a position as mayor or pardoner. They would want to start a bang wagon early (at least one of them running and another supporting). Because both zek and brownbear only got 1 vote from themselves, it is not likely they are mafia.

Mafia
The mafia was unsure whether they should someone running for either in the beginning. When they finally made the decision to run for a position, arguments for Darth and YellowInk being Town started stacking up, and they gave up on the positions. It explains why the mafia only has 1 vote for their candidate.

Okay, made up my mind for the voting, I'm gonna vote for Darth because I think I can trust him for now.

I agree that YellowInk and Darth are likely to be non-mafia, but remember that this game is a game of trust and deception. Question everything, even what the ones that were looking town-oriented in the beginning say (hell, even the guy that is coming at you with that kind of advice. It's totally normal to suspect the one that is telling you how to play )

However, don't see ghosts everywhere. When someone is making a strange move once, it doesn't always mean he is scum. Just write it down on your spreadsheet/memory/whatever and try to make him justify his move. We will win this game as townies by speaking a lot and analyze whatever the others say.

Even you with the vanilla townie role ! This game can be fun for everyone !

Well, these were my thoughts for now.

I feel pretty sad that no one has really backed me at all (mafia or town) - seems like everyone thinks I'm retarded and I'm the only one who thinks my ideas aren't that bad...I suppose on a mafia perspective it would be pretty dumb to send someone like me as their respresentative.

Please take note of the voting trends - another piece of crucial information.

I'm more inclined to take YI for mayor right now...will cast my vote in a couple hours. And I'm hoping that the DTs aren't gonna waste their action on that printer clue check tonight.....(If that clue does end up pointing to you I'm gonna have a stroke)

Haha zeks that's pretty funny.

What i'm thinking is either YI or Darth has to be a mafia right? What are the odds that 6 fairly organized people couldn't work someone into the mayor/pardoner spot.

I still have to vote but a lot of it seems to be going towards YI at the moment, gonna vote a bit later when more stuff comes in.

This is perfectly fine, but as his last post implied he was headed out to work, I'd expect his response coming up very soon.

Beyond these three, other people on my 'list' include
pyro0ma5ta - No, not because you said you want to lynch me, but because you have contributed very little thought to the game.
CompX - Pointed at ElyAs at the very beginning but has contributed almost nothing.
jiabung - Helped collect a few clues at the very beginning but then has had nothing else to say.
3 Lions - Helped collect a few clues at the very beginning but then has had nothing else to say.
Deucegladlier - Has had nothing relevant to say.
Tyranos_NiveK - The one post you made of substance wasn't very clear. It seemed like you were directing it my way, but I'm not sure. We'd love to hear more from you!
Zyrre - I know you're behind me, but I want to hear more from you in thread.

So that's 10 people, a third of our community that really needs to speak up more.

Cross referencing this with the 'clue' list we have as our primary targets: deconduo, TyranoS_NiveK, jiabung. These three must speak up if they intend to keep their heads.

Also worth noting here that I believe the only two people who have not posted in thread are currently LaXerCannon and Icysoul. LaXerCannon has a clue on him, so if he shows up to avoid modkill, he better be posting some good substance and not just trying to skate by with an 'oh hi, I'm here' post.

I'm not too familiar with these forums - is there an easy way to search a user's posts in a given thread? I couldn't get the search engine to do so - it wanted me to search for specific content as well. It seemed like LD was able to do this.

Actually zeks, I don't think your logic is stupid (maybe I missed it).

I made an error couple post earlier when you asked about the 4 candidates and I assume that you are one of them (because everyone is talking about you running for election) and I miss that it is Jiabung who is the fourth person with a vote.

I did not realize that elected positions cant be rolechecked, dont know why, but then that does throw the tiniest bit of dirt onto yellows thought process, as if he can get away with a mad dash to get elected, he would bypass rolecheck.

But then the DT can still clue check him? which would still not trigger miller sign, right? Miller doesnt randomly have clues too... right?

if so, then it doesnt matter, yellow can be cecked, and if that wasnt a clue for him , nothing was

carry on, and i think keeping the votes even for the most part would be best. I dont really have much suspicion for bb and zeks as no one really backed them up and they were flying solo. But then again a smart mafia plan would be to let a M candidate do their own thing, and according to how townies took it they would place votes accordingly. So bb or zeks couldve have been backup or an attempt with no drawbacks. gets some mafia active anyway.

also, ithink it would be ideal for darth as mayor and yellow as pardoner, i just think questionable activity would be more noticeable that way

You can:
Click "All" next to the last page number, find the person who you want to search for and use "ctrl F"

To find the posting history of the person you want to see:
Go to one of their post and click "Profile" (between PM and Quote). You will now be in their profile page. Then, click on the number beside the "total post."
