You can talk about versatility, but it all comes down to jax just liking items in general. He's a hyper-carry; everytime you purchase an item, your power increases exponentially.

Usually going Trinity -> Defense item -> Offense item -> more defense. If I get really ahead I'll go Botrk immediately after Trinity (or sometimes even old school Gunblade after Trinity). I'm pretty sure that this build will still be solid after the Trinity nerf since they're just going to increase the cost of phage a bit and the ranged nerfs won't hurt Jax at all. You lose out on damage but I think it's more reliable than the common 21/9 Jax setup and honestly Trinity is so good right now that I don't think the extra damage from the Offensive tree is as vital as safely getting to Trinity.

Also, you can reasonably solo Baron with Triforce+Gunblade and maybe blue buff.

It's a shame that tear sucks so much early game. I kinda wanna switch to sheen -> triforce but I still wanna be hipster with muramana botrk.

Muramana active applies twice on his W and R's which I think is more than the triforce procs. I mean, under ideal circumstances he probably gets more damage out of muramana, a cheap item, than triforce, but the power spikes are different.

Triforce into tankiness is still damn effective, thanks to TF buffs, I find that I'm chosing EITHER tanky or lifesteal, depending on whether I can actually afford to sit there autoing to make lifesteal worth it. If I'm engaging in a lot of fights, getting a randuins after TF makes me last long enough for the fight to be over if I'm careful to not eat a lot of poke. Jax has always been a staple top laner for me. Good playing safe, good playing aggressively, doesn't have too many static matchups that you lose from level 1 onward.

One build I was trying to work on for a while was Bilgewater Cutlass -> Guinsoo's RageBlade -> Warmog's -> BotRK but it wasn't working great for me. The idea was to get a lot of life steal and and a big health pool with Jax's ulti active, plus the BotRK active to keep Guinsoo's passive up for as long as I can to dominate the fights. However, instead I just got focused down pretty hard in teamfights(and often got my core after most of laning was done). If anyone wants a crack at making that build work, or wants to tell me what's wrong with it I'm all ears.

The spellvamp on it is also really insane since you get a ton of heal off of W. Also, you can reasonably solo Baron with Triforce+Gunblade and maybe blue buff. Anyone else have thoughts about BotRK vs Gunblade? Even though Impact and Expession both went the former, I think the latter is stronger. There's a lot of abilities that hit for spell vamp. Considering that Jax does better over time, the sustain from Gunblade feels much better than BotRK's AS and lifesteal only.

On top of that, Gunblade also indirectly boosts Jax's survivability by giving him more sustain than Bork (20% spellvamp is pretty darn huge when you're W and R'ing on low cd) and also pumps his ult. The biggest draw to Bork over Gunblade is the speed boost Bork gives. Gunblade, however, gives 40% slow (compared to Bork's 30%) and has 250 more range on Bork, which is arguably neglible since Jax's jump is 700 range. But given that Triforce is core on Jax, plus diminishing returns on movespeed boosts, I think Gunblade gives better chasing and sticking power. EDIT: I think I can safely say that the reason why pros haven't/aren't building Gunblade on Jax (or anyone) is because Gunblade (and Jax for that matter) is basically completely unproven on the pro level so they're avoiding it due to unfamiliarity. I do think it's a good alternative to Bork, especially after all the Bork nerfs.
