Jax is either an all-in camping jungler at level 2-4 or a farm-until-six jungler a-la WW. His flexibility with an E start in jungle is really strong, where you can go W for farming or Q for ganking at level 2. At any point you need to gank, leveling up Q lets you gank pretty strong, especially if you take Exhaust, which I recommend for much the same reasons it has become normal on champions like Riven, Lee, Shyv, and Mundo in the jungle. Otherwise, once you get to six, your farming potential goes up significantly, as does your burst, so you can become much more like the Shyvana/Udyr/Mundos of the world where you clear 1-2 camps-> gank/counterjungle-> clear your jungle.

EDIT: His strongest levels are 3 and 6, IMO. Its around those times where you can really make big ganking plays with your newfound mobility/burst.

I have a nub question.

I have been playing a bit of Jax on TT, and in one game, I got into a disadvantage because I was laning against Shen, who got FB in the level 1 teamfight. Basically he was one Doran shield ahead and I could not out-trade him for the sake of my life.

What do I do in this situation? All of Jax's attacks are melee range, so if I want to last hit or poke it I absolutely have to trade with him, but I can't win trades!

same thing for all lanes, if you are at disadvantage, your goal is to minimize the gap. You can do this by just waiting the disadvantage out by avoiding engages, or by making smart engages. Unlike dota, LoL makes it really easy to know when you're behind, and you should know when to play defensively or aggressively based on this.

for Jax in particular, I like to abuse the high burst to take out creeps when the opponent is not in position to punish you for it.

you have two options.

1. Avoid him, get some sustain, and farm as much as you can (under tower if you have too).

2. Ask for a gank.

Most of the time you will do number one until number two comes in to equalize the lane. With Jax vs Shen you can also wait for an opportunity to go all in at level 6, because you will get a sick steroid from ult, while shens ult does nothing for him in lane, and you should win a straight up fight.

there is not very much you can do except pill pretty frequently and try not to trade. Shen is a bad matchup for jax in the first place and on tt a level one kill snowballs so hard it can easily decide a game. Never teamfight level one on tt unless you feel your guys are significantly better lvl 1 than theirs.

When she attacks to proc her Q, the attack is dodged by E but the effect goes through I believe?

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Jax was nerfed in the near future. It's actually so powerful once he get items... his level 6 is super strong in lane, with just a gunblade he sustains like a monster in early teamfights, and he only needs a triforce and a defensive item to reach another peak in his powercurve.

Think about how much gold that is, Gunblade -> Triforce -> Major defensive item.

So like 10K into the game.

I think Jax is easily abused in lane. Whenever I see him picked I go Kayle/Pantheon/Teemo and am able to completely deny him early.

Yeah, but Kayle and Pantheon aren't played that much.

I know Olaf can be troublesome too, tho you can punish him real hard by jumping when his E is down.

Edit: I just checked, Akali's mark isn't triggered if the attack is dodged. Too bad a for a burst.

If you're jungling, go wriggles-->hog-->Triforce. Get mercs whenever you feel like it. Been experimenting with getting a super early ninja tabi off cloth+5hp. If your top lane or mid lane has a lot of CC, it's a free kill basically.

I just witnessed a Kayle get demolished by a Jax that maxed Q after his jungler camped a bit to give him fb. How does she trash him? Get aggressive as soon as level 2 with Q if he uses Q or E to kite him, then use E and slap him until he gets enough? Kayle seemed to always lose when Jax would WQ her then activate E when she used hers, but maybe that's because I noticed the Q max at level 7 or so. Is it decided in the early levels when Jax's cooldowns are still long?

Well Kayle is kind of a semi-viable top in the current meta, while Jax is borderline OP so.. its a hard matchup, especially as kayle has no damage and heal is way too expensive.. and after 6 no one can trade with jax so you need jungler support to hurt him early

Don't let him get FB. From what i've seen, he is one the of the best to abuse an early advantage to come out way way ahead and literally thrash anyone. Kayle, like some other champions, can punish jax real hard, but once he gets enough lvls he has to be really behind in order to lose trades.

After 6 Kayle can't trade with Jax? How does Kayle have no damage?

AD Kayle has ridiculous damage but Jax snowballs really hard so him getting a FB is auto loss of lane. It's not a complicated matchup, if Jax engages with the intent of retreating, Kayle can match his damage. If jax engages with the intent of going all in, Kayle can kite him easily and negate a large amount of his damage after 6.

Same concept as teemo but even more simple. Jax goes to last hit and you attack him, Jax Q's to you and you blind him, after stun ends you use move quick to chase or kite. And you are ungankable after 6.

I dunno I don't find Jax particularly frightening even when I don't play top lane.
