Thanks to Reddit sleuths, everyone can try the LotV test maps by following instructions here.

Note: This is not a beta key, it is simply access to Vs. AI and a Unit Tester. I have no idea how cool with this Blizzard is or is not, use at your own risk.

Hrm I hope that they give Terran a unit that gives them sufficient counter play against the disrupter. I'm just concerned that due to the radius and speed of the disrupter terran wont have sufficient counter play against them when they are mixed into a standard ht colosi gateway death ball. Even with the changes to mech im not sure if it will be a viable style. if it is not and this turns out to crush bio what will terran do?

The new protoss gate way unit looks really cool though. I'm interested into how it will alter the meta game. I think that the ability also requires a skill set to use that's not really present in most starcraft 2 units.

what did protoss get in hots? at least you guys were able to use widow mines in ur comp.. we were still stuck with gate units + collosus. oracles are a harass unit and tempests are situational, we didnt get core a midd-late game unit like terran and zerg did (swarmhost/viper/mine/hellbat). pretty sure we got the short end of the stick in hots.


protoss got the mothership core which fundamentally changed the early game in pvt by greatly restricting the number of viable aggressive terran openings.

The cyclone dmg looks less then in earlier previews. Didn't thought the infestor could escape. Anyone else thinks so?

I like that Blizzard is willing to make big changes. Clearly a lot of this is subject to change pending beta. But its WAAAAYYYYY too soon to freak out over any of these changes. I agree with their course of action for big changes and the economy change looks promising. IMO The viper change gives Zerg an answer to skytoss deathball. The cyclone will probably be more relevant in TvP as speedlings will probably kill it easy. I want hydra den to be T1.5 so zerg can actually "seige" or go for hydra busts style with lurker contain. To be honest the mothershipcore has made it very very hard for Zerg to do early game pressure unless the P does something silly like fail a cannon rush. It would be nice if Zerg had an honest option for pressure that wasnt as phased by forcefields. Hydras would be better just because they have more range.

Game speed altered to match that of real time


THANK YOU BLIZZARD. Now SC2 APM has more meaning, because it really is your actions per minute now. This has been irking me ever since SC2 came out. The "different from real time" thing to me was just silly.

Also holy crap I nearly got cancer reading the blog comments on the SC2 site. A Protoss complaining there about the LotV looking like it's going to have a higher skill ceiling, and that he prefers to just mass units up, and it's getting upvoted.

Right now is closest we've actually come to making this game live up to the SC name and people are actually fighting it. The reason that SC2 has always lacked inspiration is because of the more normalized skill ceiling compared to BW (due to extremely simplified mechanics), and I'm damn thankful that Blizzard is finally going all out to get things right for the expansion.

Addressing Immortal cancer (hardcountering all mech), addressing Tempest cancer (hardworking the capital ships of all three races), addressing warp gate cancer (not enough time here to go into how this poorly designed toxic mechanic has prevented the Protoss race from being what it could've been), giving Protoss the Arbiter's stasis back basically, realizing that the Swarmhost failed compared to the Lurker and giving the Lurker back, finally addressing SC2's hyper fast economy problems compared to BW, and so on.

Just wondering what the new Terran unit will be.

Sorry Terran players, you receive nothing that will change your style of play. Enjoy playing TvP in the same style you have since 2010! Oh, and watch out for all the new Protoss BS.


Have faith. They say they're working on more Terran updates.

Apart from still being in beta-phase, there's so much changes going on at once that no one can predict anything about LotV. The time change, worker change, resource change, unit changes, scan range changes, ...

There's so much going on that this won't look anything like WoL or HotS.
And that makes me very skeptical.

It's extremely narrow-minded to equate 'style of play' with unit composition. Unfortunately it seems a lot of casual viewers try to equate unit composition with strategy.

Well, it's still Blizzard actions per minute. They have their own little filter on which actions shouldn't count. It's just not Blizzard actions per Blizzard minute any longer. BAPBM --> BAPM.

Im a bit afraid that nydus and muta/corruptor will get too stronk, but its just the beta anyway. I like the changes so far.

You mean Muta/Corruptor/VIPER . I definitely agree, they'll probably end up giving Protoss something to deal with it.

I wanted a new melee unit for zerg, not two new long range units... I want set to be a swarm that runs up to the other races and kills them at close range. Not three long range races that battle it out at two screens distance...

Im scared that the time change will make the super fast attacking units like Marines and cracklings even more powerful. Marines don't need more DPS and this kind of change could easily give it to them. Hopefully the get the numbers bang on and those types of concerns are squished.

I also hope theirs a bonus for those of us with Collectors Editions of the other two games!!!

Why do you think the dps will change? It's only a cosmetic change.

They are going to change the timer but they also want the listed durations for things to be accurate. This means the timings of some things will be different to what we are used to, unless they want all their durations to be long decimal numbers. For example Forcefields last for Blizzard seconds but around 10.714... real seconds, they could change it to 10.7 or 11.

"Having made many changes to StarCraft II throughout the years, we know that sometimes changes that seem good in concept aren’t found to be preferable when implemented. We’d like you all to check this change out for yourselves to determine if this change is better for StarCraft II, or if you prefer the previous timer."

Things may not work out and the change might not go through. Personally I'd prefer it if they left everything the same and just allowed the reported times for things to be a bit inaccurate.
