I am not even sure if lore that is at best casually related to the game can be called lore for that game. Sure, the names are the same, but that is about it. Why do two guys who hate each other randomly pair up with three other dudes and fight waves of minions against 5 other dudes in a fairly clinical setup? If lore doesn't even answer that question, it is maybe fanfic at best.

Step 1: DOA, Phreak, Doublelift (yes), TheOddOne (Ezreal the cripple?), and Rivington each separately write a champion lore ~5-15 paragraphs after playing a single alpha game of the champ. Step 2. They put the above names on a little spinning wheel. Jatt, blindfolded, is given a pushpin and both he and the wheel are spun. Then the pushpin determines which lore is chosen! Step 2 is obviously filmed, and spraying Jatt with waterguns by other Riot employees is encouraged.

Do you want a good lore which can be expanded upon in comics, videos, series, movies, whatever, or a lore that explains why can you have a team with garen and darius on the same team murdering jarvan and swain on the other one? There's the lore and there's LoL where you play champions from said lore, easy as that, not hard to digest. If you find the lore fun and eager to read more in depth, than this change is for you. If you don't care about the lore - which is more than fine, it is a moba in the first place, that's what you signed up for - then it doesn't really matter what lore do you ignore; the old unreal tournament one, or the new one. I welcome this change, though they are doing it slow as hell. I'd be said if they erased everything space-origin like from the lore, I hope they keep the darkins (jax, aatrox) intact. We need the yordles fixed (chipmunk males, alien females), IoW lines erased from earlier lores and let's go! They promised my Ashe-Trynda background story since the Freljord event, and there's still nothing. Malzahar is also chilling on the sidelines, waiting to destroy the world, so there's stuff to explain. Are you a nasus main and now disappointed he's not some demigod anymore or what?

Why would you want Jax to be part of that. Drinking buddy with Gragas is so much better. DotA needs its Bristleback too amongst the Chaos Knights and Elder Titans. Instead we got a forced and artificial bit saying Gragas struck a deal and became an ally (Gragas, political ally of the Freljord? I mean, really?) of the Avarosan tribe because True Ice is great for brewing alcohol.

I just don't see the value in having lore that has nothing to do with the game at all except characters sharing the same names. Make a good story, or make one that fits what you tie it into. Don't half-ass the thing and make a tie-in story that has nothing to do with the thing you tie it into.

Or maybe they just forgot J4's father was alive, go figure. After all they managed to forget Viktor's lore apart from "scientist trying to pioneer cyborgs" between his release and Jayce's. ![]() Plus aren't you complaining yourself that we are complaining? The circle never ends!

Basically, it means that the lore is not connected to the game in any way anymore, and if that is the case, i am pretty sure that a pure, non-LoL book or comic can (and often does) have a better story. I just don't see the value in having lore that has nothing to do with the game at all except characters sharing the same names. Make a good story, or make one that fits what you tie it into. Don't half-ass the thing and make a tie-in story that has nothing to do with the thing you tie it into. I don't know, I don't want my brain to be stuffed with explanations like the IoW. Oh, they are killing each other over and over again? Hell yeah, now I know what this game is all about! I take a decent story any day over the old one. When riot made it, they did not expect a huge player base, and since only the minority of the players care about the lore, it's understandable they put their resources into making the game itself better, and hire some people from the streets to come up with an idea why are these guys fighting. Howewer it got problematic when people demanded content and they were stuck with a story which lead nowhere. That being said, I'm unsure why didn't they kept the summoner concept. The game could be about us, summoners summoning these guys from a galaxy, far, far away for our own amusement, and they could just expand on the story, leaving the connection between the lore and the game with that. The problem with the old lore was that it involved summoners too much, and Riot can't include you and you and you... and you into the story every time something happens in the lore.

You need real talent to ruin a lore which was a good contestant for the number 1 spot into the most shitty and general one. Trollking my ass, makes me rage. Why is it cringe-worthy? Sure, it's "mysterious aliens who kill everyone" all over again, but 1. how they take place among the numerous wars in Valoran could be interesting 2. Jax could be made into a darkin turned good. Nothing original, but it still keeps his character as a good guy. I don't mind cheap character ideas and stories as long as they have some very well-written ones as well. Ie. after I read 20 paragraphs about Leona and Diana, I should be able to relax with some "join the dark sideeee jaaax, we are he darkins and we kick assss" intermezzo. It's bound to turn out to be something semi-decent eventually, Aatrox is already linked with Tryndamere, who is the husband of Ashe, who is... in the end, even such petty things can be fun, when different storylines meet.

This whole approach doesnt make sense to me, it makes sense for Billzard allstars, marvel vs capcom etc because there are established stories with big fanbases, taking the heroes out of those stories and put them in an arena is basically a fanservice. But this is the other way around, you take the arena and then you make up a story about those gladiators, its not the same at all and its rather useless. ESPECIALLY when you fucking change some of the gladiators stories a million times, because even the lore writer doesnt give a shit.
