The basic idea is that all you want is movespeed and attacks speed. So you get triforce and zephyr and berserker greaves and you have all the tenacity in the world, lots of movement speed and attack twice per second. No one can catch you, no one can 1v1 you.

Edit: Completely unrelated, but morgana black shield doesn't block the application of Braum passive (the first stack, it does block the stun). So if she black shields your Q too early, the Q can break black shield and then your adc can just auto to proc the stun. Obviously doesn't work later in the game because black shield will start to absorb more magic damage than your Q does.

I still don't understand the appeal of doing that, especially playing your main.
At least have a purpose. Like one year ago when I went on a Karma Marathon when she was never seeing play. This way you can show your viewers how the fundamentals allow you to climb higher, and not just mastering your champion...

Triforce has always been better than BotRK for burst, an BotRK was bought either to combat tanky champions or buy sustain wen you lack it. With 1-2 dblades and Hiten Style Irelia has decent sustain till later, and BotRK won't do much to squishies while costing a big amount of gold (mostly for the active and passive).
With Triforce and enough AS you can still go toe-to-toe with other bruisers in the early/midgame (eg. levels 7-11 more or less) and you try to use this to win lane, roam, get a lead and shit on people before they actually get more HP and you can't at least force them off the fight during Hiten Style's duration (remember that Irelia's damage pattern and the way she interacts with levels and power spikes are that of an assasin, she just seems pathetic compared to real burst assassins, and doesn't have any dps in her kit either while recent ones pack a ton of it (Kha'Zix, Rengar, Zed still deal a lot of sustained damage once their "killing tool" is down).
You run TP because her first few levels are pretty weak but innate sustain and good level scaling means tp-ing back with zerkers or a defensive item (like Warden's Mail) can shift the momentum back to you till you get to the level you need to win the lane.
All the AS increases your sustain, and also your dps while Hiten is active (it's not like Jax, she relies on an active's cd and has to make the activation worth it), combined with the MS it's easier to chase and stutter-step for strong trading. Then with Randuin's, GA or (if you're farmed enough to afford the lack of defenses) Zephyr, you can skirmish since you're not reliant on your ult do deal damage (often needed to kill though), and try to snowball the midgame (Hiten+ult+2 sheen procs+some stutter-stepping means you can 1v1 most squishies and kill them in the timeframe). You can do it earlier with TP too.
You're no frontliner and you'll fall off really hard past level 11-13 and when people start picking up HP items, so you build around midgame and diving/killing carries to end the game fast.

No, they can block it as it starts, but once it's "high" enough (considered off the map at that point) it'll "pass above" (ignore) the walls.
Not sure if it can be blocked while going down though.

What would be better to build vs. top laners with AS slow such as Lee Sin or Nasus? Zephyr for shorter AS slow or Botrk for more sustain?
