I don't think I've ever seen a child who's actually ever gotten close to collecting all of anything I buy skins because skins are fun :D I've probably spent a fair bit on skins (and a few champs) over the years, but it's not like it's not worth it. I mean, even if i buy a champion, play him in 3 games, and have fun. Then that's cheaper entertainment then going to the cinema... | ||

I only bought two mystery skins for myself when they had it so you can buy them for yourself instead of a friend and out of those two I got Infernal Nasus and Riot Nasus then stopped doing it because I knew I was never going to be as lucky as I was with those two mystery skins. | ||

I just don't understand collection of something immaterial that has absolutely no effect on gameplay and no usage whatsoever outside of cosmetics (not like buying champions), really, and I played a TON of LoL games. Firstly some skins provide very minute advantages over the originals by means of hard to see particles or differing animations.(Justicar Syndra) Next skins provide people with an outlet to express how they are different, as silly as it sounds, not everyone wants to drive a grey Camry. Lastly purchases can be made simply because someone likes the aesthetic. For example I like robots, so I own quite a few Battlecast skins. Aside from these I can't think of any magic reasons why someone buys a skin. | ||

Whether the status symbol is virtual (skins) or physical (foil magic cards, jewelry) makes little difference. Diamond earrings are about as useful as virtual skins, despite being 'physical'. Some people don't see the value in status symbols, and that's fine too. | ||
