So I practised Volibear vs Ryze top vs a buddy a few times, and I can definitely see the potential.
It seems though that the level 1 and level 2 timings are extremely important and will very much dictate the lane. Trading W for a Q + auto at level 1 is about even, but then he can Q you a bunch more before W is back, and you can't just back off the wave because if a big push starts the level 3 all-in is nearly impossible. Push like hell for the level 2?

something that stood out to me from the rapidstar ama
q: How do you see league of legends in the future?
a: LOL is a really well-made game and the number of current users prove it so. HOWEVER, when it comes to balance patches, Riot is doing a terrible job. Its a repetiton of remakes nerfs. I sometimes do not understand why they make such changes. I believe such patches have made current matches in Korea so obvious as it is. If Riot does not do a good job on balance patches, the future of the LOL may not be as rosy as it looks

I love how Rapidstar puts (JOKE) at the end of his jokes.
Is this a real Ocelote? Because I swear I almost fell in love with you even though I am straight. (JOKE)

reminds me of HK-47
OBSERVATION: Meatbags that proclaim "mid or feed" in champion select are unlikely to be desirable teammates.

Isn't someone else translating for him? So it would be the translator doing it.

I've been sitting there trying to understand how people were believing it was rapidstar, when all the questions were answered in such fluent english :p

Could it be that EU playoffs are held in LA, as well? From what I saw on twitter both qu1ksh0t and Joe are in LA at the moment.
Dont see a reason why they'd have to fly out to NA to cast challenger games and then come back.

Riot has a really good idea of how to keep people playing their game, and you see that a lot of their idea of imbalance has to do with "counterplay" and such. But I don't know if playing will translate to continued watching of competitive matches if the current trend of bland balance tweaking continues. They have had some really unique ideas for champion design, but almost invariably, their design leads to one of two areas.
1) The champion's kit is extremely specific to a single strategy or playstyle, and the strength of its kit determines the style of the match being played as a whole. Take Olaf, for instance. He was designed around diving and killing squishes with lots of offensive steroids and a really amazing BKB like mechanic with his ult. He was a DOTA melee carry with strong laning, amazing scaling, and tons of steroids. Pretty much my favorite champ ever.
But then, Riot decided (perhaps correctly) that BKB was really strong, so they made him trade some of his defensive steroids for it and upped his damage in return. But this effectively guts him, because he'll never have the trifecta of hard to escape (CC immune + constant Axe slow) good damage steroids (W, passive, true damage, armor pen) and defensive steroids (ult passive, life steal) that is necessary for a melee carry to succeed.
Jax has suffered in the same way, but since they realize that melee carries have to have all of these things (without tradeoffs at important times like when you need to run through their front line), his kit is designed much better with a defensive steroid that scales with offensive stats.
2)The second way Riot designs is a "catch all" champion. Notably, Lee Sin is the poster child for versatility, with a kit designed to do everything at some point in the game. Nidalee qualified before when she had stat bonuses to armor and mr in her cat form, but since that change, she has become a one-trick pony. Like Nidalee, most versatile champions are either nerfed out of their "unintended" role, or simply nerfed into oblivion until Riot "redesigns" them.
This idea of pidgeonholing creates the problem Riot has today of champion diversity. If every champion in a given role is designed to do the same thing, there will always be one or two that are the best at doing that specific thing which will dominate the meta. Instead of letting divergent gameplay with creative champion design occur, they are attempting to force their will on the game and are seeing the futility as a result. They react too quickly to toning down dominant strategies and champions instead of letting the metagame evolve to deal with these threats.
There is a fine balance there, however, between reacting too quickly and letting the game become stale. I just think Riot errs too often on the side of overreaction.

I never understood what based means. What does based mean.

I always call jungle/thresh in champ select because those are the two roles I know I can do better than other people in my elo but I fill if people say they literally can't play a role (cough support). If I fill outside of those roles I just try to counterpick my lane or get a safe pick (i.e.: ryze/renekton/leblanc/ziggs/cait), try not to die and take very low % risks. A lot of people climb elo with an incredibly small champ pool so that's not uncommon. Not really possible for meta junglers though since every game is 4~6 jungle bans now (at d3 anyway). Yeah, I'm interested in how many people these days main a role and actually play several different champions in that role. Like I have a bunch of games this season on jungle Eve and support Karma, but very few games on other junglers/supports, so I can't say that I actually main any role, because it's really just one champion in that role.
I am the same way. I've selected a group of champs that are rarely picked or banned and main a single champion for each role. I have a back up pick for each role as well in case of pick/ban, but my skill on those champions is not nearly as consistent or reliable. In order of my proficiency with each main:
ADC: MF/Lucian Support: Nami/Leona/Lulu Mid: Orianna/Fizz Jungle: Jarvan/Fizz (<-- Trolololol) Top: Ryze/Gangplank

I think you guys really should start playing Amumu/Pony jungle for the free elo.
You know, instead of Fizz.

You know, instead of Fizz. At what level do you play that Mummy/Pony is freelo? I tried them myself, around Plat 3, and I just get horribly murdered by lee/kha/vi/yi/panth/all those other bullshit junglers.
