The downside of cutlass is that it only builds into BotRK but when you have no ad ratios or auto attack modifiers (like auto crit) besides some not always up attack speed the BotRK is a better third or fourth item compared to BT. And if you're going to go with the BotRK over BT anyway might as well get the cutlass

Janna is bad because she is weak. Her kit is fine if they didn't destroy her support potential with weak numbers and stopping Q from being a 1 point wonder.

I feel like the problem with Janna is that she can't be aggressive early in the game, her playstyle has to be reactionary, and aggressive early play is like the only way to play right now.

In fact there are a lot of good nonagressive supports Sona and Kayle are fine as support with weak laning phases and Kayle is twice as good as Janna lategame.

I think this is a little off the mark in regard to why Janna is not widely used. The problem is ADC's no longer do the damage they used to, back when 1 fed adc (kog/vayne/trist) was all the damage output you need Janna reigned king (queen) because she could peel really hard for the ADC. Now a days ADC's don't do the damage they used to, and are far more vulnerable than their older season counterpart. So it's much better to have supports that have some form of reliable engage in their kit. Just look at all FotM support, morgana/leona/annie/karma/

It is a wonder she did not become more popular earlier. Janna has an amazing late game if she can get there but doesn't offer engage potential and has one of the weakest laning phases of any support. The nerfs to her w and q when other supports got buffed certainly did remove her from contention. PS Sona and Kayle are aggressive supports. They're not all-in but you have to be aggressive to make them work.

Just look at all FotM support, morgana/leona/annie/karma/ The increased gold has really favored the harder scaling supports. Whereas prior to s4 a Leona had more or less a hard limit on how tanky she could be this is no longer the case. Similarly Annie could only burst so hard. This made consistent peel comparatively strong because the tanky supports would die and the bursty supports wouldn't kill anyone. Now that the bursty supports kill and the tanky supports live the guy adding shields in the back line isn't as valuable. A lot of Janna's power came from hidden stats (bonus move speed mainly) as well which additional gold makes less relevant (while other supports had their bonus stats value magnified by more items)

Man, I hope TSM goes to Paris over C9. Anyone know if KR going to send this season's OGN winners or are they going to default to SKT K?

SKT will go because they amassed so many points due to the Winter season and Allstars is before the Spring Finals.

Annie support at pro play is still mikaels+talisman+sightstone. Even karma support rarely gets AP as well. The tanky support is somewhat true, but I don't think that's the point. Leona was still seeing quite a bit of play in s3.

Holy crap the burst from just pieces of DFG and Claim when she hits level 11. And the silence is so annoying as a Lulu (last game I played was against a Soraka support, he started W so Draven and I smashed Lucian and him, but there were several points where his silence would delay or altogether prevent my ult/shield/crucible, securing kills on low allies). She fell off after that since she couldn't find gold anymore (plus Fiddle stopped failing his ult so we started winning fights despite Jayce actively avoiding us), but at that timing it was really brutal. I don't think I've seen an Annie more than maybe 5 times in Gold though, over 30+ games. It's a bit surprising actually, people were faster to jump on Morgana than on Annie, and Thresh is still super popular.
