If your rank was determined by your "skill" alone, there would be no reason to make a reset. There is no reset in SC2 because Blizzard knows your ranking matches your skill level exactly if you played about 20 games. I don't really like the fact that Riot flat out admits that there is luck involved in your ranking, and enough of it to justify ELO soft resets on a regular basis.

The elo resets happened once a year and you make it sounds like it happens a lot more often. Don't you have to play placement games on sc2 a lot more often? Your rating will always involve more luck in a team game, the comparison with an 1v1 game makes no sense to me.

For SC2: You only have to play one placement match at the beginning of the season. This has no impact on MMR beyond a normal game, and leaves you where you left off the season before. The only purpose is to take inactive people out of the system.

Everyone's MMR gets closer towards the average (1200) from either end. Then it's literally the same as regular placements. So if you lose game 1, the system thinks you're worse, puts you against 1100's or whatever. You lose game 2, it puts you at 1000, and so on and so forth. So it is very possible to get 7-3 and MUCH lower than you expected if you lost your earlier placement games. Similarly since the Diamonds have been dropping down from diamond to lower rating, it's possible some of them lose their frist few placements against other diamonds dropping them much lower than they "deserve". If you don't want to get weird results from your placements, wait a few days for the ratings to "normalize" and then play them.

I have heard about some of the more maligned champions this season but I have no clue about anything else champion wise. Cheers. Super tanks are all the rage right now, Mundo and Shyvana in particular. Depending on how long you've been out, the biggest change is probably Annie support. Finished my placements, went 7-3. Got bumped up since last season! Was silver 5, now silver 2. Not much, but still I was expecting to be put back in Bronze.

Mid: Kass Ziggs Nid Yasuo Gragas (everyone pretty viable mid) Jungle: Vi Elise (most jungles viable) ADC: Jinx Sivir Lucian Cait (Ez?) Support: Leona Annie Thresh (depends on matchups) It's pretty balanced right now, nobody's blatantly overpowered except maybe Shyvana who just got hit with nerfs. Basically top lane just gets super tanky, mid laners provide utility and/or burst, junglers support the lanes in various ways, and supports engage fights. If I were banning, I'd ban Kass Shyv Yasuo Mundo Riven because I don't like playing against them. I might go for a FP Kass or Shyvana but it's not the end of the world if they're left up.

Put my additions in bold. Also, add Kass to the list of blatantly overpowered.
