Homeland: Somewhere west of Shurima... ? Hard to pin. Champion Type: Assassin/Fighter, fragile and relying on concealment and hindering of his opponents to protect himself. Background: Amongst the nomadic tribes striding across the outer reaches of Shurima, the Vilma are of the superstitious kind. Rather than describing them as more at ease on firm ground, it should be said that they find comfort on it, for it is not sand. As much as water is a symbol of life in these arid territories, sand is an omen of desolation, of nothingness. It has been for quite some time, too—because war has been ravaging one or the other portion of the land for even more time. And seeing cities and people and great buildings as well as geological formations reduced to dust and specks of void by unleashed magic whenever they travelled across a conflict may have left a mark in their heads. The sand isn't an evil spirit or a threat or a cataclysm: it is but a manifestation of their primal dread. The sands that they religiously avoid to tread upon are a disembodied reminder that even the sturdiest of rocks is not eternal, and that one day each of them will have his turn come. The Vilma don't exist anymore. As he was wandering outside the ruins of Urtistan, trapped there by the side-effects of his chrono-displasia, Zilean once came across a singular form. The man appeared young, and in good health if not for symptoms of negligence considering the desert around them; however, his posture, his facial expression, the agony in his gaze revealed him as torn, as if eaten up by an invisible torment. Zilean approached him and tried to glean information about his situation, all too knowing of what is at stake whenever an individual on the brink of madness is left truly alone. The man was named Denara, and he had already been drifting in the dunes for more than ten days. Originally a part of a Vilma caravan, they had come across a city beset by another Rune War while carefully going along the desert's rim. They had arranged a large detour to make sure they wouldn't get caught in the siege, but on the third day a bright light filled the sky as palpable energy discharges ran through the air, coming from the city's direction. They had hastened to try and leave the zone, but the light intensified, and after a deafening blast the wind came and took them, bringing rocks and ashes, blinding them, until he blacked out. When he woke up, he was all alone. There were some debris here and there, of course, in a large circumference even, but that was all. There was no tribe. No road. No city. There wasn't even ground anymore: just a sea of sand, in which he found himself buried, alive but... soiled. The initial shock was big—the biggest in his life—a life he didn't really expect to last long anymore, for what else could such an omen signify for him? The second one was even bigger, and plunged him into despair and incomprehension: even after he ran as far away as he could, after several days of trekking, dazed by the extent of the ruin brought forth by the spell, when the sand seemed to give way to earth and rock and grass... at the same time, the sand kept clinging to him. He tried to shake it, he tried to wash it away, to snatch it, but he couldn't. Wherever he set foot, sand spread. Whenever the wind blew around him, it carried sand. Whenever he moved, specks of sand followed his movements without grace. Although he failed to voice it, Denara felt like an empty shell, a walking ghost, devoid of any meaning since he was constantly being doomed by the grit around him. Zilean was deeply affected by the situation mirroring his own, that of a man not only stripped of his whole life by the Rune Wars, but left jarred by the consequence of their magic, as he figured out that the spell gone rogue bound Denara to the sands surrounding him after he somehow survived the magical dicharges. The culture and beliefs of Denara would slowly drive him mad the same way being locked in a pitch black room would another man, let alone give him a chance to join another Vilma tribe. He resolved to relieve Denara of his burden, by preparing a spell that would bind him to his consciousness so that when it would come back to the "present", Denara would be transported along with it, allowing him to be introduced to the Institute of War's scholars and summoners. + Show Spoiler [Original story] + Zilean's brief explanation of the Vilma's situation was met with nothing short of enthusiasm, as any prospect of gaining a deeper understanding of magic is. Denara was wary of all these people, practitionners of the "art" that had cursed him, but the drive of ridding himself of his scourge was stronger and he agreed to collaborate with the summoners to soothe his mind. Even as they requested experimenting on his new powers, along with participating in League matches as a "life-size evaluation" so they could understand it better—"which would only help in curing it". Without knowledge that to some, too intrigued by such specimen to let it go, goading him into coming to terms with his new nature would be as good a cure to his mental suffering. Shortly after Denara arrived and was explained the customs and basics of language in modern day Valoran, however, Zilean's chrono-displasia caught up with him and his mind drifted once again, leaving Denara to search for the Institute by himself, at least until the Chrono-Keeper awoke. Have some vague idea of multiple champions' kits and lore ready in your head just because you like design yo. Then spend a damn hour to write it down because it never actually got out of your head. On September 20 2013 06:50 phyvo wrote: As an alternative to the superheroes system you mentioned I suggest taking a look at Exalted. You can find/download the core ruleset here. The background flavor may be pretty wrong but the system is designed for demi-god-like characters just born again into the world and so the base power of the characters is much higher than DnD while also giving a good deal of wiggle room. As an example of this players are encouraged to really narrate into their actions for "stunt points" for any and every kind of check, the more backflips/running on clotheslines/tossing enemies into buildings the better. Players can start with artifacts of pretty potent power if they wish and the "charms" are classless so people can take whatever they want there. The one tricky area would be magic since Exalted is pretty much devoid of "magic missile" style spells iirc. Interesting, I'll poke around at it. I've heard of Exalted before but never knew anyone who played it.

Champion Info: human male, age is late 40s/ early 50s area Homeland: Born in Ionia, currently resides in Zaun Champion Type: Offensively-focused mage Background: From an early age, Wo'jek practiced the arcane arts, mostly at the pressing of his parents. They had hoped to take advantage of his prodigious skills to ensure their own financial comfort in life. Wo'jek's rapidly growing ego, however got in the way of those plans, as he had been slowly sliding into a delusion that his power at the time would be enough that he did not need anyone but himself. His next experiment was that of studying the effects of various poisons on his own parents. After his parents demise, Wo'jek left his home in order to seek a place that he deemed fit for his own creations, and eventually found an area in Zaun where he could both find willing (or much more likely, unwilling) subjects and the lack of a government caring enough to deal with such an individual. As much as his skill in potion-making improved over the years, his ego has followed suit, if not surpassed his ability. His ego had grown to the point that he would refuse or avoid anything that was not dictated exactly by his own terms unless an individual were to be proven worthy of his respect. Even now, only one person holds that honor in his mind. This individual is also a scientist in the Zaun area who experiments at his own leisure. Even though Wo'jek scoffs at this other scientists self-experimentation- citing that the average person is worthless so there is no reason not to use them- his experiments themselves have been successful to the point that respect was earned. The worldly doctor, as Wo'jek called him , spoke of a tournament where some of the best and brightest competed and that it was likely that some were as intelligent if not more so than he. Outraged at the thought of someone being better than him, Wo'jek immediately set off for this "Institute of War" the mad one spoke of, seeking to end the possibility of anyone being better than he. RPG player background: Have some experience in Pathfinder, although I'm open to learning pretty much anything Time Zone/Availability: Eastern US, my availability is up in the air at the moment, although things will be much clearer for me within the next week or two, which judging by the wording of the OP is enough time to figure that sort of thing out. Writing the lore was pretty fun, so I might expand this some later on.

I like how you can get the flavor of each person's character based on the champion they base the lore around. (jk I'm here til the morning)
