Is it just AS reds and ad/ms quints or do people run AD reds and LS quints for dblade start like I've seen many Lee players do? AD/LS seems to be really strong to me. You can run damage W for quite a while and get your Blood Pool stacked without really risking being low, which is nice if it's falling off from running around/camping a brush. It's especially nice in lane because I play him more in the tanky sustain style than fighting too much.

Heyall, please be a bit careful with Worlds spoilers, at least for games that arent completely decided by 10 minutes in.

I don't see the point of LS quints on Aatrox at all. In fact, it just makes no sense. You already heal a ton and the heal scales with AD.
The only situation where you would have the need for that is when you aren't able to heal freely with your W... in which case you cannot heal freely with your lifesteal as well. Rather go HP regen quints if anything so that you can also regen when you cannot auto minion waves.

LS on Aatrox sounds good, the more lifesteal the better on him.

Seeing how I posted what champions I expected to see in response to CSheep, I thought I'd post an update after Day 2.
+ Show Spoiler [Day 2 Picks] +In last night's games, a total of 8 new champions were seen: - Top: Lissandra, Shyvana
- Jungle: Xin Zhao
- Mid: Jayce, Karthus, Twisted Fate
- ADC: Miss Fortune, Varus
- Support: ---
Three of these champions (Jayce, Miss Fortune, and Xin Zhao) were not on my list of 19 expected champions. To call Xin Zhao and Miss Fortune "surprise" picks is an understatement, and I'm sure fans of Gambit are still wondering what the hell they were thinking.
This brings the total to 44 champions seen at worlds. We have 4 more days of group stages left, followed by the elimination stages. It might seem like we're guaranteed to blow way past my prediction (i.e. 55 total champions seen), but bear in mind that each day that passes suffers from diminishing returns. We saw 36 champions the first day, but only 8 new champions the second, and it's likely we'll only see 1-2 new champions today. Despite the large number of games yet to be played, we won't be seeing as many new champions each day as you might expect.
That said, there's a fair chance that the number of champions at worlds will both surpass my expectations and fail to meet CSheep's, though I'd wager I'm closer to the mark.

Xin/mf are pretty standart picks to call them "surprise" picks is ridiculous.Gambit have shown many times that they like them a lot.
Isn't it pretty expected that every single day we will get less new champs?Like if that didn't happen then it would be shocking(assuming it is group stage of course in box the more specific strategies with unorthodox picks should pop up).

For others' and my personal reference, you will be closer to the mark if 62 or fewer champions are picked, while CSheep will win if 63 or more are picked.

I feel like I remember a time when everyone on this forum was liek: man why EU pick Aatrox so much?
While there are diminishing returns, I would expect there to be a round of new champions when we get past the group stages because the teams that got a bye may have some signature champions we haven't seen yet (I don't think we've even seen an Annie yet, for example.)
Likewise, people may bring out their secret strats as the tournament goes later.

I don't have time to draw up a list of my picks that I expect/think we'll see, but in terms of rationale, I would agree with your diminishing returns point normally, but I also feel like there will be a lot of "niche" picks that teams have specifically prepared for to bring out at higher stake games later in the stage, which will throw off the slow pace of new champion influx.
Do champions that draw a ban but no pick count? I would count them since if a team feels a champ is banworthy, even if it doesn't end up being picked, it would still show the champ is "viable" and adds to diversity.
Ashe and Kassadin have, I believe, both drawn bans already with no appearances.

Aatrox is a ridiculously strong hero when played properly, EU and CN have both shown it over the past season, it's not really a surprise pick by any means for people who've followed one or both of those scenes. It flew under the radar for those who only follow the NA or KR scenes, but at least half the world thought Aatrox is a strong pick~

In the jungle people have played him like Lee with a knock up: no farm, constant pressure. His gap closer is a knockup and his passive makes tower dives even better. He has better sustain and a ranged slow, albeit a slightly worse one.
His ultimate is worse because it is not a displacer, but it turns aatrox into a powerful duelist and makes getting in Auto attacks during a teamfight/chase much easier.
So yeah, he's basically a Lee except better at tower diving.

I wasn't aware of Gambit's tendency to pick Miss Fortune and Xin Zhao. I'm usually either asleep or busy when EU LCS was going on, and when I caught Gambit playing it wasn't with those champions.
It's pretty much expected that we'll see fewer new champions, but I emphasized it because it's tempting to look at 44 champions seen in two days and assume we'll blow past 55 tonight.

The "signature" champions I'm aware of that we've yet to see are Annie and Mundo. In terms of meta-based picks we haven't seen Vladimir to counter Shen, Kassadin (them bans), Lux, or Ashe. Assuming all of those make an appearance, we need another 6 to hit my prediction, another 8 beyond that for me to "lose" (though honestly I'd readily call 61-64 a draw), and another 15 to match CSheep's expectations.
The general consensus in TS last night was that my 55 mark was almost certainly going to be passed, but not by much.

If we need a tiebreaker to take us out of the "draw" zone, sure. Otherwise I'd rather not count banned champions, as sometimes we see junk bans as part of a strategy.

I hate Aatrox sustain.
That is all.
Also, I feel as though bans ought to count. If only to inflate the number of champs picked/banned.

I was under the impression he was counting bans, Zed was on the list.

On September 18 2013 00:39 onlywonderboy wrote: I still don't get Aatrox lol His kit is kind of deceptive, in that it would be really strong a year or so ago but seems weak in the "power-creep era".
An AoE knockup on a basic skill with a short-ish CD is great, but being hard to hit/short range makes it awkward. It's not as great if you try to compare it to Malph ult/Zac E. But still, it's a very strong ability if it lands. E constantly surprises me with how hard it hits given the range, CD and manaless.
Basically, he's like a mini-Zac with slightly higher single target damage if you build tank and much higher single target damage once you get an AD item. Both fill the role of manaless champions who initiate with their face, slow, and then do some AoE damage while sticking to a target, then eating a bunch of damage and reviving. Aatrox trades Zac's disruption for higher damage output and easier health management (as getting blobs can now be sorta problematic).
Not to mention Aatrox Q is a bit more of a reliable CC than Zac E in fights, as it has no charge time and a shorter CD at all ranks but 5.

Zed was actually picked in GG vs TSM.
I'm not counting bans at the moment for the reasons stated above, but I'll also count them if it means having a definitive "winner".

Zed got through in RegiSM vs GGEU
not a comprehensive list but random heroes that come to mind that I think will show up that haven't been mentioned are
Syndra, Kayle, Volibear, Zac, Rengar, Nocturne
I was unaware this is a competition orz

I think for parity sake bans are relevant.
Annie for instance might get banned every game vs. Royal but they think she's good enough to be played, and thats the root of the question after all isn't it?
also cheep I hope you caught those ~12 @ 2-0 1 tower, and ~14 at 0-1-1 1 tower 1 drag RoA + Tear timings last night, you guys think I make this stuff up?
