That extra 50-75 range really made him fascinating to play eh?

Can someone explain to me why people pick Garen? Surely someone at a high silver elo would recognise he's nothing more than a lane bully and I honestly can't think of a reason why you would pick him over Renekton or Darius.
|
i think situationally garen's better than darius he gets so far ahead so easily in lane, especially in some select matchups. then you just go bruta -> tanky -> never die, always kill, huehuehue
really fun champ too, his ult is one of the most satisfying in the game
also as to why someone in SILVER would play him over renek? cause you can play anything in any lane in silver and win... no one plays optimally so why should you, if you want to play something different? i choose champs based on their playstyle or other traits i like, not their viability in a lane
|
Garen is really fun to play, and even if he doesn't bring anything to the team, except for his bigass armor and a lot of kill potential because he was ahead on lane, it's quite decent at a low level when a champ bullied often result in a bad mood on their team - and maybe a quit/afk.
Would totally prefer Renekton on ranked tho yeah.

I think the amount of off-topic discussion in the past few weeks is simply indicative of the lack of "General Discussion"-type LoL discussion that there is to be had. By and large I don't see any real LoL discussion that is being drowned out by this off-topic discussion (and I mean real discussion, not Ketara raising something he's tried in 5s that nobody has any contribution to make toward because nobody's ever played it before and expecting people to actually have something). People are talking about off-topic things because that's what there is to talk about.
You can postulate about why there isn't so much LoL discussion recently (I think our subforum is becoming better at compartmentalizing the various topics into their own threads) but frankly I think trying to force General Discussion on-topic is trying to force the conversation toward something where there wouldn't be any. If there were any "general" topics that would have garnered discussion they would have done so. The off-topic discussion has only really appeared to fill the void in discussion topics. So long as the posting quality keeps to our usual standards (and for the most part it has), I don't see what forbidding it will accomplish.
For the most part, I agree with the above.
Now to add my 2 cents, the idea of off topic being separate is really weird to me because of the history of LoL GD. I don't like it, but it's not unreasonable to want it. I can't really imagine how you would separate the discussion though. Where do you draw the line between what's "on topic" and what is not? I guess it could be some sort of refuge while off topic is going on in the main thread, but people will use the off topic thread the majority of the time. So, why even create the secondary thread? Stricter enforcement would be a lot better than anything else.
The off-topic isn't even bad as it's generally done during a down period of LoL activity(usually early mornings or late nights). The problem I have is the increasing amount of negativity towards individuals that I've been seeing on this forum. I doubt anything will help that until you guys decide you need to force people to stop random personal attacks. People are okay to disagree with an idea, but when they start spouting out attacks on the person themselves, that's the problem.
Overall, I hope you lot are just more strict about enforcing certain rules, while keeping the thread as it is.

Actually, yes. Like against Ahri, for instance. You could Q>Dodge to reasonable success, now even Flame and Faker would eat my Orb if he came in while it wasn't on cooldown. Also I don't shit on teemos as much anymore.

Funny tangents are part of this forum, and frankly I wouldn't enjoy it as much without them. I understand it gets excessive sometimes, but I think it needs to be handled on a case by case basis, rather than an overall crackdown. I think yango is right in that discussions have been compartmentalized a lot, reducing the amount of things to discuss in this thread, and we've also discussed a lot of things to death and back.
Edit: I do wish to say that the fact that we are having a reasonable discussion about this rather than an outpouring of rage and stupidity is great, and characteristic of this forum. Go TL LoL!
I stop browsing when I glance at the last few pages and see extended Non-LoL related conversations. I'm here for LoL. TL is great for FotM stuff, scene drama, and metagame trends.
OT stuff is fine. But you'll never know what LoL related things could be discussed due to the time sharing stealing away the opportunity.

How much of these range changes will affect his being picked in competitive play?

Does anyone knows why when i reached Silver I i started getting 6 or 5 lp per win, and losing -3 or -4?

It's natural, called "clamping" and a TL;DR is "you'll usually end up in a promo series when your Elo is closer to Gold IV than Gold V, a way to ensure you won't get promoted on a fluke since you can't get demoted w/o inactivity".

They pulled the game play part back later in the article if I remember right, but ya overall standards shouldn't be that high on the game knowledge considering the content is mainly aimed at comparisons to stats from other sports. Pay to win is just something that the game's been against from the get go and stuck out at me.

1-1 in my silver 2 promo series oh my butts

I for one feel the ban was a bit harsh, but I do agree the OT posts were getting out of control. I come here to talk LoL, not read about anime for three pages.

I can remember 3 or 4 on topic discussion questions that were asked / ideas that were put forward in the past few days and were drowned out by fish jokes and pancakes. But I suppose those are the sort of on topic discussion points that don't count to you.
I really like the occasional puns and pancake discussion. But it's gotten to the point where that's most of what this forum is, and that's stupid. I read this thread to get better at playing League of Legends, not Pokemon.

The only one I remember not getting much discussion amid the flurry was the Zyra build, and that could be because there's not all that much to say beyond the build nyx? linked in connection to it. Lets prove we can be worthy posters and then maybe Neo won't have to feel quite so determined to whip us into shape by taking away our ninja turtles.

We could put it to a vote on what degree the community will tolerate tangents.

part of it was Burning bush Zyra had been discussed earlier in the day.
The real offender here is forced off topic, one bad apple..
