If you got that idea from yango I think it's pretty clear he's the only mod that feels that way. I had myself temp banned for six months so I'd stop reading because the thread was all about pro player drama for a while, which is basically the same post quality as fish puns, but fish puns are more fun to read. I like off topic sometimes, but if it's coming in overwhelming quantities I just tune out. It's going to take a lot more of this kind of talk than of some kinds that are 'sanctioned' like complaining about what somebody efamous said on twitter about lol to turn me off though, I don't mind if pancake talk continues. The TB tangent(aside from the Bloody Mary evoking of his name) actually spawned discussion directly related to league, I'm not sure why you are so incensed about it. Maybe I'm in the minority but the last 3 weeks are the least I've cared about this thread/forum since it started, I can't remember that last time I read so little of the posts(I usually read every single one while I catch up day to day, even during my huge breaks from the game itself) and just skimmed through looking for stuff I cared about. I guess what I'm saying is that while you just 'tune out' the off-topic, I know personally that it's just super annoying to do that when I've forever been able to just read the thread post by post and never have to tune that shit out because it came in short bursts(that didn't last 5+ pages) and was sometimes actually funny.

I had my final round interview on Monday so this is my first day back to TL, and having read through about 60 pages of GD at once it was pretty bad with some pages being pretty much nothing but 1 liner puns. That being said it seems like we could really benefit from what Neo plans to do with an off topic forum, as that way you could browse either forum depending on what kind of content you were wanting to find, and not having to worry about sifting through 50 percent of the posts. Also I got the job so now I'm moving to Austin! ^_^ Austin is a fantastic city, so grats on getting to live there for w/e job it was you got.

I think the amount of off-topic discussion in the past few weeks is simply indicative of the lack of "General Discussion"-type LoL discussion that there is to be had. By and large I don't see any real LoL discussion that is being drowned out by this off-topic discussion (and I mean real discussion, not Ketara raising something he's tried in 5s that nobody has any contribution to make toward because nobody's ever played it before and expecting people to actually have something). People are talking about off-topic things because that's what there is to talk about. You can postulate about why there isn't so much LoL discussion recently (I think our subforum is becoming better at compartmentalizing the various topics into their own threads) but frankly I think trying to force General Discussion on-topic is trying to force the conversation toward something where there wouldn't be any. If there were any "general" topics that would have garnered discussion they would have done so. The off-topic discussion has only really appeared to fill the void in discussion topics. So long as the posting quality keeps to our usual standards (and for the most part it has), I don't see what forbidding it will accomplish.

Its what TL as a website is based on. Other people have said it better before I got the chance to (fucking phoneposting), but there is definitely as difference between what offtopic used to mean and what has been done to it lately. It was...forced? By the way Neo you should totally get me that hammer icon; I defs have mod qualities. Would you moderate us by giving warm milk and teething toys?

There's a critical mass of OT that becomes unreadable and for me ecelebrity natter does more to push things to that point than anything else. I don't particularly care whether OT stuff gets pushed out or not, although I'd slightly prefer if it did, but I hope discussion of whether regi left the big shit in the tsm house toilet or not gets banished as well. Based on my past reading of the thread, I believe that's what pancake talk is mostly crowding out. I can tell what you're talking about via context, but off-topic and on-topic have the same acronym.

Yango I see your point of view but I disgaree that the topics lately were 'natural' progressions of the conversation. Even if you argue that its where we head when there's nothing to talk about, I think I'd honestly just rather see less posting than that stuff. I don't see why shitposting and pseudo-memes is what offtopic has to be---if there's no reason to post then don't force it, just don't.

This as well. @Wave: outside of a few of the specific topics, a lot of the off-topic has been legitimate discussion and not shitposting. Fish puns I'm on the fence about because while I'm not personally a fan, pun trains definitely have a history on TL throughout various threads across the site.

The issue I find was the frequency and forcing of off-topic discussion, ie bringing up pokemon every 2nd post and visual novels. Also really wasn't a fan of the 'biscuit baiting' though some of the discussion around dota v lol was interesting.

lots of interesting stuff in this article The games are broadcast online and draw more than 1.7 million unique viewers. A typical National Hockey League game on the NBC Sports Network last season drew a quarter of that audience. Evans and Riot told U.S. officials that the eSports league met government benchmarks for a major sports league because it had clear rules and at least six teams with combined revenues of more than $10 million.

Five times the teams, each team plays 4 times the games. The NHL has a yearly revenue of about 3.3 Billion, I love eSports to death but I think that sort of infrastrucure is a long long ways away.

If they include Korean teams, they can easily make that requirement.

Doesnt mean that exactly 6 teams have that revenue, they can just count every team in the us league, no?

Players pay real money for extra weapons and characters. other than that, hats off to Riot, really glad to have them supporting their game and I wish Blizz would do the same.
