The existence of a ranked mode creates a stigma around being rated and judged that results in a lot of people that pretty clearly hate the experience of playing solo queue games forcing it on themselves in order to get themselves rated. The QQ thread wouldn't be as large as it is if it people who didn't enjoy solo queue just chose not to play it. Like, it makes no goddamn sense to me that there are all these players that only have terrible things to say about solo queue playing it all the time. That's like saying you never play with feeders/leavers or whatever in DotA. Not everyone can find 4 other people or a team to play with/against all of the time in DotA either, no? What do those people who only like playing arranged team games do if they want to play but can't find the requsite people or are waiting around? I agree the emphasis of LoL players toward solo Q is strange but it's a natural progression from Riot not offering any incentive or reason to play 5s for so long in my opinion, and I don't see it as likely to change anytime soon.

It wasn't solo queue showing that he was in fact the best, it was his practice and play with his team. solo queue means nothing and should be accepted as nothing but a fun mode you get to be ranked in. being good at solo queue =/= being good in a team game. HotshotGG has reached the top of solo queue before, it doesn't mean he's a better top laner than flame, who has not.

Being good on a team means you will be good in solo Q, but it's not necessarily the other way around.

A counter example here would be someone who was trained by a pro team from a relatively unremarkable ranking but failed despite training with superior players. Are there really more players who have done that? Edit: I a word.

They play in stacks (the equivalent of blind normals) or they play in-house leagues, in which everybody kinda knows each other so that they're not on a ladder with everybody in the world. If blind normals in 3/4 stacks was your preferred play mode and you were actually quite good at it, and then you wanted to join a competitive team, you would get rebuffed because you don't have a good solo q rating. Hell, that's my preferred play mode and sometimes I can't argue with certain people about strategy because my solo Q rank is too low and they won't accept any other credential besides that.
