To that end, stuff like itemization, knowing when to be aggressive or passive, tricks for csing and winning lane, etc... are probably going to help a lot more. More or less. I've done quite abit of mentoring for LoL newbies: in general, discussing what mechanically they need to improve on (and giving them a guideline to improve on those gradually), and then focusing on lane/teamfight centric skills and knowledge (how to control creep waves, how to position, etc.) are areas where they can show the fastest improvement and which has the most benefit to their immediate game. Calls and objectives, team coordination, and even warding while also essential elements of the game, tend to be more abstract and nebulous for a newbie, and are more organic to learn after you've covered "the basics".

Teaching them the basics gives them the ability to begin working their way up in terms of abstract understanding, and conceptualizing the meta. Kinda like Plato's analogy of the divided line (sorta).

Protip: Don't use the build Froggen just did on Ryze.

So, totally not on topic at all.
I feel like Soraka's ult could use a buff. Not sure what it should be.
Soraka is kind of a boring champion in that her play is so passive, but she does have an ult that has a very cool concept, and if it was a really good ult would allow for a lot of cool global saves n' shiz. No other support has a global support ability.
However, with all the heal debuffs and execute abilities and such in the game, Wish just never seems to do enough. I'd love to see a small buff to Wish, either in terms of raw healing numbers or something else (perhaps have it give a percentage of the bonus armor of her heal or something? I dunno.)

No way. The ult is weak for saving people globally as you said, but it is fucking crazy good in teamfights. You just wait till everyone has taken a bit of damage then just pop it and you just healed for 2500 hp, if it got any buffs its would be straight up overpowered in fights.

Assuming no heal debuff...

Teaching them the basics gives them the ability to begin working their way up in terms of abstract understanding, and conceptualizing the meta. Kinda like Plato's analogy of the divided line (sorta). i agree with this. teaching someone to think for his/herself is the last phase of teaching and you can't get there without going through the basics. in terms of items, you can't teach people "how to build" if they don't know their character, their skills, and what the items actually do.
generally when i learn something i go through a couple phases... 1 - initial exploratory phase, where i just jump in and do whatever i feel like 2 - research phase, where i learn how actual skilled players play 3 - x-copy phase, where i try my best to imitate how these skilled players play and learn why they do they the things they do 4 - self research/experience phase, where it's no longer about copying the best but eliminating personal mistakes and finding the best way for yourself. and just straight grinding through.
i find several pitfalls, but the most common are... -research. they don't how to research, they don't do enough research, or they don't care to research. they just do whatever they feel like. -experience. they don't grind enough. they expect their research to carry them through and are utterly frustrated when their theory does not coincide with what really happens. -lack of fascination with the activity itself. when people do things strictly to win and not for fun, they find themselves either bored and unmotivated or angry and frustrated. (on that note, this does not include people that find winning fun.)

ESPORTSSSS~~ Esport celebrities. The day has come! And all the perks. New goal in life; to be a esports superstar.
On the topic of Soraka; I feel her mana spell could have some cooler interaction. Like flat mana + slight mana regen buff for 10 seconds, or something cool like that. Feels rather bland and binary otherwise.

For no other reason than that right now it doesn't seem to protect people from anything but an AD assassin if you cast it on someone damaged right before the assassin's burst.

Even if it gave mana regen it would still be a bland and binary spell.Taric/soraka are really good examples of how to not make champs.Basically no skillshots/almost no potential for outplays/not interesting to watch. If we compare them to newer supports like nami/thresh/lulu they are just inferior in every single way.

Yeah obviously it would be better but they need to do some bigger changes to make her viable. Her skillset is just too simple.Since she offers no aoe cc (which is pretty much required for supports atm) she is either useless or too strong imo.

Its basically a pure nerf. You completely lose 3-5 MR and lose 1-2 AR, lose even more during the activation of W, and you gain a total of 2 armor and 40 hp. You also lose that armor on your Aura. So not only are you not really tankier yourself, you also lose team benefit.
|
On the list of my bad ideas:
Make Soraka's E a linear pass-through skillshot that restores allies' mana and damages+silences enemies.
