We've listed the problems with it over and over and over at this point, and nobody defends it. The only thing people ever do is clarify how it works, which is not helpful because everybody knows how it works. Or some people tell other people to ignore it, which we've all heard a hundred times already.
I haven't seen anybody ever try to argue that it's a good system.
Talking about it any more unless it gets changed somehow seems dumb. I just assumed the whole discussion fell under "Elo Hell", which is one of the taboo topics. if it's not then it should be this discussion sucks lol
I don't think there's an angle from which we haven't examined it and all the conclusions are the same.
So yeah.

analogies are the best
it's like if dr mundo did 200 pushups and got 20 lp to be promoted to silver belt

After not being able to hit 2000 elo, ever, to get into diamond range for the past two months, I get from plat 2 to diamond 5 in ~20 games. Clearly it is superior because I'm able to get higher with it. That's the whole point, milestones. MMOs now have it down to a science when it comes to how to get people hooked. The League system isn't about improving the ranking system (Elo rating was doing just fine), it's about giving people clear goals and a gradual sense of accomplishment, it's an extension of the level-up.
Except it doesn't give people a gradual sense of accomplishment, at all. And nobody tries to argue that it does.
So why talk about it.

Actually it is true that the new system makes it hard for people to get promoted. That is because in the old system, the Elo was just a number, did not had a ceiling and therefore we had what alot of people refered to as elo inflation. Now the ladder jas a ceiling, 50 spots in challenger, and the division have to keep the same %of the entire population. So it makes it harder to.climb to fight the inflation that we get in the invisible mmr under the system

At the end of the day the only real change to the system was including number of wins into the matching metric. Everything else is just facade.

Also Stealth Rocks was a crazy introduction as well. But yeah set-up sweepers are pretty terrifying. The fact that Wobbuffett has dropped from Ubers to Borderline, previous tanks/walls/sponges like Cresselia have just dropped to UU and the Lati@s twins and Garchomp are in OP is also pretty crazy to me. But Gen V is all about the weather wars anyway.

The new system sucks so bad. You have to beat all the elite 4 in a row and then win against your rival. I'm not saying I'm should be a Pokemon Master but I feel like I'm really stuck in Elite 4 Hell. Like I could totally 1v1 anyone in Gary Oak's division but the system is designed to screw me over so I can't. I get stuck with so many Youngsters and Lasses every game I play and I know I'm at least a Cool Trainer.

For all people complained about Elo inflation, it did a good job lulling people into the idea that they were improving gradually even if they weren't because of the steady upward slide of everyone's Elo over a season.

I could be wrong, but I feel that Gold V people are wayyyy worse than 1500 Elo players from last season. I think Riot secretly lowered the bar with the introduction of the new league system.

The "V" of any division is usually pretty shit; cuz you can't drop out of it. So if a silver player gets a lucky 10 game ranked winning streak, they get put into Gold, but now they can't drop out of it.

Since you can't get demoted by playing bad Gold V, Plat V, Diamond V players have a high tendency to be really bad and not truly be what ranking they are.
You can luck out in placements and end up in Gold but really be a Silver or Bronze player and the only way to drop down would be to just not play ranked at all for like three months. You could be boosted to Plat V or Diamond V, or possibly gotten really really lucky throughout multiple promotions, and not truly be Plat or Diamond caliber player but stay at that tier for all of S3.

It's also the hardest one to get out of if you are around that elo. There are good people and very bad people it's just so random lol.
