If you like Kayle, just play Kayle mid- Kayle is becoming a top tier mid among pro (even Korean) teams, and getting a lot of pick/bans. There are some pure AP builds out there, but a very common one is to build Nashor/Guinsoo's for the AS on her shred. They somewhat recently changed her E to reset her swing timer, which helps build shred quicker. I haven't played Kayle in like 5 days... but unless the change was in those 5 days or your idea of recent was a year and a half ago, then no, they haven't.

I'd buy Tyrant Swain and Blackthorne Morgana if you gifted me RP to spend on skins exclusively, most of my champs I prefer the classic skin to any non-legendary ('cept maybe WW or Orianna). Oh, that's good to know. o.o Also Q first, just because dropping a pink in their bush, sitting in it and laughing as its active's mechanic makes them zone themselves isn't enough, you get to pseudo-nuke them everytime they try to get a cs while their own wave arrives and you've built up some AD scaling. 80+<souls> magical damage on top of ~60 physical damage at level 5? That's around 15-20% of their hp (before resists) and you haven't even used your spells or set-up a trade for your AD yet.

Lantern can pick up souls around it when you throw it out so that may be why you see people throwing it. On terms of skilling him definitely max Q first your damage on his auto harass goes up nicely as a result and the active is one of the best initiates/teamfight abilities IMO. From there I find it depends on the game as far as what to max second. If theres alot of jungle fights or fights are long drawn out poke wars I'll max w, but usually I max E since the utility of a second pull/knockback is really strong combined with the fact it also interrupts channeled spells like Kat and Malz ults. Im by no means a great player but I played Thresh a ton last week and really enjoy how deep and complex his kit is

I don't remember how many souls I had that game, but on one hand it seemed pretty low as I ended up dying twice and roamed a bit to ward, on the other hand it didn't matter because his Q's passive damage is so damn bonkers. o_o (Picking up 3 souls when you go near wraiths to ward the drake as your jungler kills them gives a warm fuzzy feeling though. <3 ) Also had a "great escape" run in our own base as 150 HP Jax + Thresh running from fed Vi + tank Kat, lantern + leap strike + counterstrike to prevent Vi from charging Q makes for absurd mobility chases.

Further ranks do not reduce the cooldown or improve the pull/knockback, they only increase the damage and the slow (by 5% per rank, which is extremely negligible). A Locket level shield every 10-16 seconds is much, much more useful.
