Those situations fit but it's a big stretch. Not to mention it's an idea that many people are familiar with. So you stretch the idea to fit what you're trying to describe.
Edit: oh Wave... you're gonna have to simmer down a little. >_<

I'm not really surprised by this whole thing.
I just wish riot just came out and said they wanted a league system for the league of legends.

No, the way to maximize your fun is to have fun regardless of whether you win or lose.
There's nothing wrong with choosing a different strategy, but your win rate will never be near 100%, realistically speaking, so only having fun when you're winning is a terrible way to maximize fun.
And yes, you can actually learn to enjoying things you don't enjoy right now. It's not the easiest thing to do, but much easier than trying to win every game forever.

Just ask 5hit about my ad TF bot lane.
If I really wanted to win I'd just play Singed top every game and be 1700+ by next week.
I'm pretty sure Tap could support anyone on this forum and still beat your TF.

Yeah, I'm probably overreacting and I'll get used to shit and the system isn't THAT bad of a way of measuring...
What REALLY gets to me is that Riot (and Blizzard) assumes that having these divisions is a good way to measure our progress because we'll have a way to measure up to some 50-odd people around us in skill level and watch as we bypass them or fall behind, WHEN WE DON'T HAVE A GODDAMN CLUE WHO THOSE PEOPLE ARE.
Yes, this is the same thing as the elo system in a way, but then why make that a point of contention as to the usefulness of your system? Divisions mean dick all, I get it. Why then, does Riot feel the need to tell us that they do??
Honestly I feel like I'd like the system better if you has some higher chance to be matched with people in oyur division, so you actually HAD a direct way of assessing your skill against the people around you.
Edit: And those retarded division names as well. Holy shit. Like, did they have to copy EVERYTHING about Blizzard's ladder system? Sigma Tau Epsilon Phoenix FUCKING HORSESHIT.
You're assuming that the current Elo system gives you a good way of evaluating your skill based on people around your ability. If your friend Bob is sitting at like 1700 Elo, when you finally hit 1710 is it reasonable for you to go 'woo, I'm finally better than Bob!'? All those numbers tell you is that you two are likely in about the same skill range-- assuming you're both able to hang in there over an extended period of time, of course.
It should be clear that the Elo system as it's used in league is a flawed way to assess your skill in all but the vaguest of senses. All the league system is really doing is preserving that vague, approximate, and most importantly *accurate* portion of their ranking system and doing away with the small stuff that people fret and argue about when it doesn't really matter.
Skill/ability isn't that granular and distinct. Though yeah, it'd be pretty sweet if the division names didn't suck.

Just have a 'real' understanding of those auxiliary roles gives you a necessary insight on the lane as a whole, not simply from your main role's PoV.
The Top-Jungle situation Slayer91's talking about? 95% of Top laners fall for that shit but it's like common sense to a Jungler. As a Top player, what makes you exceptional is anticipating enemy Jungler's movement.
This remind me of a talk I had with Loco at IPL5. The best Top laners he recognizes (MakNooN for Korea, Stanley outside of KR), they have insane star sense and know when ganks are coming. Whether or not MakNooN/Stanley actually try out Jungling is kind of a tangent but for us mere mortals, thinking from a perspective outside of first person is key.
I'm sure they've drilled the standard jungling paths into their heads already. This is done either by jungling a lot or watching a lot of replays. You're right that gank timings are common sense to a jungler but sacred esoteric knowledge to a top laner. Hence all the more reason junglers should always make calls during laning phase. Any experienced jungler will tell you that they know where the enemy jungler is 90% of the time, and it's not an exaggeration. There are only so few small camps and buffs are always taken asap. So through basic deduction, the enemy jungler's position should be obvious at all times during early game lane phase.

I think the problem in your understanding of the reasons Riot is doing this (or maybe you understand and just don't care) is thinking that the reasoning for the new system is so people can better evaluate their own skill level. I think that's probably true at the highest levels if they have like one grandmaster league, but at lower levels it'll be about the same. Everybody's been saying that.
But that's not the reason for the change. It's a visual change designed to A - get more people playing ranked, and B - make Riot more money. That's how I see it at least.
But you're right, Sigma Tau Epsilon Phoenix is pretty dumb. Shaco's Shit Scrapers imo.

New flashy gems and banners to show when you've been improving and a Best-of-whatever series to make stuff feel epic?
Then why not keep things epic by making people feel like they've accomplished something when they can actually recognize the players in their divisions and feel something when they get to know those people and finally overcome them? This is a little like what happens at higher elos when you start recognizing people you play against and eventually bypass them or whatever. (Yes I am aware of the annoyances that come with playing with the same people over and over but surely there must be a way around it, such as a higher CHANCE to play against people in your division?)
It just seems like wasted potential just to be showy.
Edit: I came up with the Shaco's Shit thing on a whim in my angry rant, though I really do like the sound of it. Now I'm kind of excited to see what the Division names are going to be so I can replace all the names with something hilarious.
