Essentially, % max HP damage is only as good as the equivalent amount of AD (and not even that good because it doesn't scale multiplicatively with crit or crit damage). Kog's W is worth 120 damage vs. a 2k HP target, and 180 damage vs. a 3k HP target. These are good numbers, but don't make onhit/AS suddenly more appealing. The ability to scale with crit and do damage to towers are far more valuable lategame than adding mid-tier items that only scale alongside your onhit damage. Honestly the real value of Kog's W is the range steroid. That component is WAY more important than the % max HP damage. EDIT: also "11% health magic damage with 2.5 attackspeed and tons of mr shred?" is not a fucking argument. Stating the stats that a 6-item build gives is hardly justification for a build. I could just as easily say "IE PD LW. 1k damage crits on anybody with huge attack speed." That's not an argument at all though. It's just a statement. I understand the range steriod on w is what makes kog a ranged carry over an ap carry, but the fact remains none of his moves have ad scaling. Look at how malady and wits scale into mid game. I honestly don't want to throw out arbitrary numbers because a lvl 18 champ with no health items is going to be running around 2k health and guys buying health are going to be around 3k. It really doesn't matter which one you pick. The fact remains the team is going to rely on kog to get the most out of his attacks. The synergy between malady, wits end, and that lvl 5 w can not be ignored. I'm not trying to argue which is better because in some games on-hit will be better, and in other games getting a bf sword item is going to be better. I mean kog can trade kills situationally with the passive, and if your top lane is a kayle, graves, corki, ez all of a sudden black cleaver looks good.

The main problem I have with AS/on-hit Kog is that while Wit's+Malady is indeed good (A TLer did the math showing that Malady provides vastly superior DPS/gold compared to IE when you get it on Kog), people follow up with Bloodrazor. Bloodrazor is a shit item. The reason to buy AS/onhit items is their better out-of-the-box cost-effectiveness compared to true scaling AD items. Bloodrazor doesn't even have good out-of-the-box cost-effectiveness. Realistically if you have Wit's+Malady, your 2 best follow-up options are probably either Triforce or IE (with the aim to transition back into conventional AD items for lategame, having used the immediate cost-effectiveness of Malady+Wit's to build up enough of a gold advantage to make that transition smoothly). Bloodrazor is just awful.

Level 6 Trist has silly strong ganks. W between them and tower and then ult them away from it toward you teammate. What they gonna do? Flash half the distance you ulted them and die anyway?

Heck, even Corki could be used what with his gap closer and all, just smite+exhaust and you're all set to go.
