While this thread is labeled "DotA2", this is in fact a community thread first. Many of the users in the TL LoL subforum have been playing as friends for over a year now, so it makes logical sense that they would want to play other games together.

Do not compare DotA2 to LoL, you will get banned.

TL LoL veterans know what is expected. Newcomers be warned.

That Puppey interview was class. I think if I had lost 800k (the difference between 1st and 2nd) I'd be looking for the nearest pillow to try on, to have so much class like that is really amazing.

I think it's easier for him seeing as Na'Vi won it before and has been in the grand finals every single time, nevertheless Puppey is a great guy.

So basically, 5 of 5 wins for that wisp pick.

There were fewer wins with wisp the day before the casters mentioned. 0/2 the day before.

This obviously means Wisp is going to get nerfed, but 5/5 can still be a coincidence.

wisp being OP is nothing new. the say before Na'vi just ran a really strange lineup that didn't really synergize with wisp. The map pressure being provided by wisp is insane, also on the split push rax trade where s4 cancelled the tps, thats only 1 set of rax without wisp.

I'm actually way more sad than I thought I would be that Na'vi didn't pull it out, Alliance is a good team and deserves it but I legit thought they had won.

I don't know about Io being OP, just because China doesn't play her. Arguably you can say because China fell short because of Io...

In the meantime, as good as Profit was in the match, he has to be my least favorite hero. Annoying to play with, annoying to play against.

I can objectively point out there that the rosh fight would not have gone in Alliance's favor without the wisp there. He was a very huge part of their win in this game.

China didn't play wisp, but they sure did ban it.

I just don't know how you can draft against alliance, Bulldog is so good on his signature heros, but if you don't ban them akke and EGM just dominate the game with theirs.

I'd probly still have tried a wisp ban though after 4/4

You can't afford to ban Wisp though. Alliance is just so disgustingly good with Naga that you absolutely have to ban Naga. Akke is also ridiculous with Chen, as well. Wisp is guaranteed to be first or second pick, as is Bat.

Honestly, I think Na'vi drafted pretty well.

Pit Lord's ulti is basically a teamwide Wisp ult, except it can only tp to a target (friendly) unit.

s4 also bought an incredible amount of time during the rax trade, pretty much single handedly got Alliance the favorable end of that trade, he was an absolute machine at the end of game5.

The reason China sucked is because going into the event there was a fundamental misunderstanding about how this version is supposed to play.

Going into TI3, the Chinese understanding of 6.78 was as a teamfight-oriented version. This is belied by the common Chinese picks prior to TI3, many of which saw far less play at the event itself than prior--Shadow Demon, Silencer, Magnus, etc.

The thing is, that is not the style which is most well-supported by this version. This version is one of map control, lane pressure, and farming efficiency. Teamfights are almost entirely secondary--the fact that your team cannot win a teamfight simply does not matter so long as your team has the means to maintain lane pressure and avoid those fights. This leads to the style contentiously known as "rat dota", which was most heavily used by Alliance and Fnatic and which prominently showed themselves in the final. In fact, I would argue that Alliance's success in 6.78 is not simply a product of them playing better than every other team, but a case of what I've mentioned for League before, where the most powerful playstyle of a particular version incidentally happens to match the natural playstyle of one of the teams.

Essentially, Chinese teams going into the event were at an impasse at the end of the first day--attempt to continue playing with their flawed impression of how to play 6.78, or to attempt to adapt to the new style on the spot, knowing their execution simply could not match up against teams who had been playing that way for months. LGD attempted the former, and essentially lost through their strategy of "give up early map control in exchange for later teamfight power, which can be used to take back the map". Other teams like iG had the basics down of the 6.78 playstyle, but lost through being unable to iron out their execution.

Yes, obvilusy there was more to it than simply wisp, but wisp is basically a good represetnative of that entire style, which as you mentioned, china failed at

also china still believed in a single late game carry vs. the world style to an extent, and the supports being free food/sacrificed to the pressure repeatedly tended to end badly

No, this is again a misconception, corollary to the map control vs. teamfight power tradeoff.

Every team recognizes how powerful farmed supports are. However, if you do not have map control, there is not enough room on the map for you to farm your supports up like that.

Why didn't we see clinkz isn't he fine vs profit? Funn1k clinkz exerts so much map pressure from ~12 min and onward.

It depends on the rest of the pick, although clinkz can 1v1 offlane easily against most of the heroes, if the rest of the pick is unfavorable, he will be forced to go 1v2, 1v3 and he'll be a reliability.

What's the etymology of "rat dota" / what are the hallmarks of the playstyle/strat/draft? Dipping my toes into DotA2 again and the term's being used a lot with little explanation. "Rat" as in "you dirty rat"/"vermin"-y playstyle, or a more prosaic explanation (some equivalent to LoL's Twitch being core to the strategy)?
