While this thread is labeled "DotA2", this is in fact a community thread first. Many of the users in the TL LoL subforum have been playing as friends for over a year now, so it makes logical sense that they would want to play other games together.

Do not compare DotA2 to LoL, you will get banned.

TL LoL veterans know what is expected. Newcomers be warned.

Most days either Evo or myself are arranging stacks for some games. Though we usually neglect to use the channel, so it's probably easier to bug us directly.

You can try playing with people from the teamliquid channel if you want the jump in whenever sort of deal. Not sure what sort of skill level you'd find there though and how willing they are to teach people though.

Uhhh... careful with that. The normal TL channel is what kept me from DotA 2 for the longest part. :o

It's weird, in League I was much more active in the channels too compared to DotA 2. I think the combination of steam allowing easy out of game communication/organisation and the less pronounced chat channels make for that. The chat channels and the way Valve presents them seem cleaner but also... secondary. Just look at how few space they take up. T_T

tl;dr: Add the guys you see posting in here/ingame from the group and chat them up. Make sure you tell us that you're from the League forums if we seem confused, there's been like 10 people or so in the past who found this from google/without knowing the League connection for some reason.

You can add me if you want to play, yoloswagg2 or erasme4 if you feel that you're good :p
I played enough LoL to understand the similarities/differences between the games, so i can probably help a bit more than some random guy

Another NOOB question! What's the default mode of play in pub games? Does everyone play All Pick basically, or do people actually go for Captain's Mode? Is it something done at people at "higher levels of play" or is there a sampling of everyone?

-ap is the most popular mode at all levels of play. Some people understandably prefer -sd or -rd to avoid facing the annoying/imba heroes. -cm has the problem that one person picks all the heroes for you for most people.

People at higher level usually play all pick to mess around and / or try out heroes. Most goes on in scrims / inhouse leagues / smaller tournaments.

Also if anyone needs a key feel free to message me.

whats the deal with Random in all pick? is it bad etiquette to NOT random, seems like a large majority of the playerbase randoms in this mode.

People random either because they're addicted to the 250 gold it gives or because they don't care/don't know what hero to play. Only thing that can be considered bad etiquette in AP is last picking random, if you random, do it when the picking phase start, so rest can adapt

So I think I'll better bump this. I haven't been playing LoL after ~Zac, instead I've been trying to play some Dota 2. Got some fun games so far, and some frustrating ones.

I've been randoming mostly, since I don't really have heroes I really like yet. Heroes I've tried so far and what I think of them:

Tiny: Toss is a fun skill, but avalanche is a really hard skill to hit imo. The growth mechanic is really fun and Aghanim's makes him incredibly fun to play.

Dragon Knight: Played him today, I feel he's good, but I don't think I built him right and their team won. I went Drums+wand+treads into helm of dominance and then a basher. Only cc we had against us was Pudge ult, so I didn't get BKB. Lost after Nayx bashed me 5 times in a row ><

Phantom Lancer: Lots of micro, pretty fun. Hard to farm early on but later in the game you're a beast. Got to Diffusal+Manta+Heart and the army was invincible. I can see why people call it cancer lancer now.

Gyrocopter: Hard to position well. Had to be really careful not getting cc'd. Standard aoe damage feels really strong.

Lich: Dat ult. People in my games don't seem to be good at splitting up. Got a triple kill with it.

Lina: Had trouble stunning, but pulling off a kill with a full combo QWR is on the fun level of a Lux full combo.

Nature's Prophet: Really good at farming. Global teleport sounds incredible for split pushing, I didn't dare to, far too scared to get killed.

Leshrac: Edict is fun. Stun is hard to hit. The rest of his skills feel kinda meh.

Visage: Incredible amount of fun. Soul Assumption and Grave Chill are lots of fun, great for stealing kills! Micromanaging the two (I got three in the end) familiars was fun too. Their damage wasn't much early on, but later in the game they were really good at chasing people down.

Close to hitting level 2 now, hoping for some good items!

Dont forget to avalanche and toss, it's double damage I think (or was this fixed?)

Also, on PL, a lot of people go Drums->Diffusal->heart, drums gives you a bit of everything, and makes you less paper. Manta style...well...yeah you get the illusions, but might be better to go for a butterfly, cause the evasion transfers to your illusions as well...which adds more tankiness and firepower than manta style.

Nothing to fix, it's intended from DotA 1. Avalanche ticks do double damage to a target that's in midair from Toss.
