In fact all the gp10 legendary items are great. Except GB they don't need a lot of other items to be useful. DFG always does 30% damage to a target.
Gold items don't give you wards. Gold items you you stats that are cheap in a long game. As I said it turns out the stats coming from philo-->shurelyas and hog are exactly what you need to teamfight well. Getting wards and dorans rings don't.

Too much discussion over a role that is the most least played in the game.

Why does this argument need to be reiterated with the exact same arguments every few months?

Oracle is annoying. as a support, how do i ward when the enemy support has oracles if there is a way to place my ward away from sight

You place ward in obvious spot. When support goes to check it you and your AD carry kill them. Even if one of you dies in the process it's still worth it for the oracle.
Bigger problem is when jungler gets early oracle which is way stronger than support getting oracles imo.

Well no shit philo is a regen item. Dring is a starter item that becomes worse when people build bigger items (like shurelyas)

Need dota items. Pipe, Mek, Force. THEN we wouldnt need to have this discussion.

Might that be because one needs a support and there are only that few supports in the game? I'd really like Riot to make a few more than just the upcoming one.

I think that's due to the fact that Soraka is ezpz to play and that there are so few supports. Riot should just go on a spree of releasing 4-5 new supports in a row. Would spice up bot lane a lot more and if they made a few aggressive supports that would help end the boring "pick Sona or Soraka every game!" that happens in pub play.
Specifically, add a support that has a bunch of CC and a healing debuff.

The one thing that pisses me off about the community more than anything else is the idea that "only the people I think are supports are actually viable supports.
Look at the champ pool. Actually LOOK at them. Nearly every champion as a perfectly viable way to be played as a support champion. Max w on tryndamere, win every trade. Burst people down with Annie as soon as you hit 6. Hell, Nunu and Galio were both UNTHINKABLE on support until they showed up in tournaments.
The problem is that the vast majority of the community is terrible at this game. And I mean everyone below 2k is fucking terrible. And a good portion of the people above 2k are pretty bad as well. Its the truth. People either A) are incapable of seeing the possibilities that exist, or B) Incapable of actually playing out that possibility because they arent capable of adapting their playstyle.
So instead you end up with a community that is stuck in the "this is what I know, so it MUST be true" mentality.

Aside from the healing debuff sounds like leona.
I think a big problem with making more supports is that you can make only so much variations of a heal and a stun while creating interesting champions. I do agree a couple of extra viable supports are needed. Esp supports who can work with any ad to help with pub play.

So instead you end up with a community that is stuck in the "this is what I know, so it MUST be true" mentality. What's also funny is the "healer-therefore-support" mentality attached to a lot of heroes. Despite the fact that healing as a skill in no way implies farm-independence. In fact, lots of heals scale insanely well with AP.
So on the one hand we have heroes that people insist can't be played as supports. And on the other hand we have heroes like Karma that people insist MUST be played as a support, despite not even being that good at it.

But what is Annie or Tryndamere going to do later in the game when they have zero farm? Annie could initiate fights I guess but will just get blown up immediately and offers no protection to your AD. Tryndamere could ult and hope the enemy team focuses him so that he can tank damage for you.
Ali, Janna, Soraka, Sona, Leona, and even Galio can still offer a lot to a team without farm. Most other champions who could do okay in lane as a support are going to be pretty worthless without gold.

I maintain that Soraka without gold is actually more useless than, say, Morgana or Orianna without gold.

Annie with a shurelias is still going to be able to 730 AOE damage, plus 275 from Q, AND tibbers AOE on top of that. So thats a speed boost into initiation with an aoe stun, and an impressive amount of area damage.
Trynd? HoG + Avarice, grab a randuins and ghostblade. Or even a Zekes. That dude is still gonna hurt. Not as bad as top, but he is still gonna rip squishies a new one and demand a stun.
