I just started playing last night, hit lvl 8..doing alright 10/6. When do I start getting an ELO rating, and if i play prearranged games, do I get more exp a game?
Fastest way to hit 30?
I'm US as DDiggity. Is there a way to talk in game? I hate typing stuff..but haven't heard anyone talk, so wonder if everyone just uses skype or something.
If so, anyone want to play some games?
Some guy told me not to buy anything until I hit lvl 20..accurate?
|
For the level 20 aspect, that is when you get access to the best runes. Any lower tier runes are suboptimal and a waste to buy. People use skype/vent to talk.
I've played LoL for a few months now, and I am currently level 29. Jut grind games, that's all I can say
|
Tier 1 runes give about 55% of the effect of tier 3 runes for less than 10% of the cost. Personally I think they're very worthwhile if you're planning on buying other stuff with IP, but it's up to you.
Tier 2 runes are a bad deal, don't bother with them.
|
If your level 8 it will probably be another 22 levels before you are 30. here is my formula if your need the work. 8+22=30
|
I started playing 2 days ago and I really enjoy the game. But Is rushing up to 30 really a smart thing to do? I would rather enjoy the game slowly than rushing. Take your time. The level 30 cap isn't running away from you or something. *^*
If you want more EXP you can purchase EXP boost from the store.
About talking, if you know anyone in real life or closet net friends that plays the game you can add them into ur skype conv and play with them. I don't think if you try to join as ''Solo'' they will go on skype.

I recently hit lv 30 with about 240 normals, and some customs sprinkled in.

ELO starts after you play ~10 ranked games and you have >1200 ELO. There isn't any more exp for playing prearranged games, but there is a penalty for playing custom games.
Some ppl say that tier 1 runes are adequate to use at first since they are so cheap. Then skip tier 2 completely and save up for tier 3.
Depending on who you play with, there are multiple chat programs. People over at reddit use Mumble a lot while I've seen people here on TL use Teamspeak.

No, Elo starts immediately. You can't see it in your ranked profile, but if you hover your name at the score screen you can see it after even the first ranked game.
Level 30 is +/- 140 wins. It sounds like a lot until you realize you shouldn't do ranked until 400+ wins.
|
Yeah, dang, so no built in audio. I just don't like typing mias and coordination in public games I guess I have a power level attitude..I don't want to be at a disadvantage because someone else has better or more runes or stat points than I do
Good look on the rune selection..I think I'll just try to hold out till lvl 20. Once you unlock them, they're yours forever to use however you want? or do you have to keep rebuying them?
|
you get elo from playing ranked games (when u hit lvl 30)
you dont get more exp for playing arranged
theres no real fast way to hit level 30 as you need about 40k~ exp (http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Summoner_Experience) to reach it (roughly 300~ normal games if u maintain a 1-1 W/L ratio)
no way to voice chat in game
what crate said about runes dont buy champs unless you've tried them out at least during free weeks unless you want to get a lot of buyers remorse; on the other hand, if you know you're going to spend RP ($) on this game, buy a champ bundle asap as it gives u a lot better deal than buying them individually
you're not at a big disadvantage or anything without runes/masteries given you're playing vs other low levels.
once you unlock runes/masteries/champs/skins you have them forever

play with friends and it'll go so fast. fuck this game is fun

Like everyone else, I don't know exactly how long it takes because your EXP per game varies based on game length and whether you win or not (I think.)
Play with friends, don't get angry at the game, and have fun! =3
|
Not going to lie, it's been pretty fun so far...except a few disconnects, and realllly new players haha. Coming from Dota, I've got at least a decent understanding.

I've actually brought Voice Chat up with more than one of the developers at Riot and while at first they had plans to integrate it into the game(think way back in the beta), they now said they don't have any plans to put it in.
Really disappointing, it really makes it easier to make friends and communicate with strangers, and if you ever have a problem with someone, you can just mute them. A lot of people bring up ragers as though that makes having Voice Chat bad, it's really rather idiotic in my opinion, HoN has voice chat and if someone bothers you, you just mute them, I've had some memorable good experiences with a communicative team in that game, while and negative experience lasted about the time it took me to move my cursor to the mute button.
I don't know, I find the lack of voice chat pretty disappointing.
As for Runes, just pick up Tier 1 runes, or ignore them altogether, they do make a difference but Tier 3 is where it really matters. Also, don't buy champions with money to save yourself IP for Runes, it's never ever worth it(sort of the point of the business model). You can easily find yourself spending more on a couple of champions than you would on other online games and even full retail games as you go up. So yeah, just be patient and make sure you're buying Runes you really need, particularly the more general purpose utility runes.
|
It is going to take you forever to get level 30, I think it took me and my friend about 150. There is a League of Legends subforum that might help you get a better number.
Don't buy anything until level 20, then buy only tier3 runes for your favorite champion. If you have no runes once you hit 30, it wont be as fun, cause the chance of facing 30s with 700 wins is very high, so you'll get dominated pretty easily early game without runes
You'll never get ingame audio, this game goes overboard on the whole casual community thing. They care more about a 0-16 nice player than a 16-0 mean player, so adding audio would only help the people out who want to talk trash.

It takes so many games to get to level 30. I've been playing for almost 2 months quite regularly and I'm still in the 20s.
|
Yeah..it's really tiresome to type out detailed instructions, or try to type to someone who didn't get the idea form the pings, or doesn't realize anything that's going on..where in HoN, it takes 3 seconds to tell them, and have them understand (and still not listen usually, but still)

I'm told you get full exp vs bots for the first few levels. It's an OK starting point to figure out how to navigate items and some real basic mechanics, but don't spend too much time in there.
Runes aren't really a huge deal at low levels because you have few rune slots and just low tier runes. It's 100% worth it to get an all purpose set of tier 1 runes (it's quite cheap) and then save the rest of your IP for tier 3 runes at level 20. Don't worry about buying champions for awhile; just play free stuff and see what you like. The "recommended" ones (e.g. Ashe) are free like every 2-3 weeks.
Magic resist per level blues and flat armor yellows are both dirt cheap and good.
There's nothing particularly special about one rune color from another; what's important to know is which color has the best of which stat.
For instance: Reds: Magic Penetration, Armor Pen, Attack Damage Yellows: Flat Armor, Mana Regen, Dodge, Flat HP per level Blues: AP per level, Magic resist, Cooldown Reduction
Yellows have an AP per level like blues, but the blue slot gives more AP per rune. The same goes for red having a magic resist, but blues giving more per rune. There are special cases on when you want those, but for starting out, just get the best amount per rune.
|
you have a hidden elo from lvl 1 on for matchmaking purposes btw, so if you play more, you will see less and less of the totally new players if you arent one.

Althought T1 are a good start, dont go buying runes untill after you get a comfortable setup of champions that fit many many roles going for ya (jungler, caster, Carry, Ranged AD, support, tank and/or heavy cc role) The focus is to learn as much as you can level 1-30, try out all the things you wish before entering rank, though there are bad eggs no matter what.

About 80 wins using double EXP boost will get you to 30.

Not really worth it, in my opinion.
Just patiently play and you'll get there eventually. Boosts are... kind of a waste in my opinion.

the experience you get from winning sub-level-30 games is based on 2 things: the time spent, and the outcome.
if you win frequently it will take less time to get to level 30. otherwise, the amount of games doesn't matter as much as the time spent in game (though of course there are a minimum and maximum exp for games)
don't worry about rushing to ranked, though. you aren't ready for ranked unless you can name, to yourself, off the top of your head and instantly, the 4 skills and passive of every champ in the game. if you go into a ranked game against a champ you've never seen, you're just going to get fucked royally and ruin the game for your teammates
|
Took me about 1 1/2 weeks to go form 1-30 (120 wins) and the 7 day exp boost + and IP boost to make up for games lost.
Don't buy runes till 20+ and try to avoid buying champions unless you really enjoy them.
ELO starts ats 30 in ranked.
Arranged doesn't give more IP.

you can get the first win of the day bonus and xp as well just by playing custom games. it will also help you get used to following through with a good early game by finishing your games. all the best advice for newbies is here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=166126¤tpage=3#45 whoever made that post is a genious edit: it takes twice as long to get from 10 to 20 as it did to get from 1 to 10, and twice as long as that to get from 20 to 30. also if you backdoor as yi you will literally win every game you play, not exaggerating
|
Just recently turned level 30 with around 160 wins, 160 losses. I've mostly been buying champions, I need a few more runes till maxxed runes.
Don't buy runes til level 20. I suggest playing champions during their free week before buying them.
Just did my first ranked game, won it!!! YA!!!!
Just a tip for ranked games, buy A LOT of wards if you don't have a support hero on the team.

ive played for about 2 weeks, level 14. just gotta grind.

I think people did math to figure out that buying tier 1 runes and combining to get tier 3 runes even factoring in randomness was worth it IP-wise, but it's definitely a huge hassle. Most tier 1 runes you don't have enough slots for anything to feel different, and skill differences matter a lot more at lower levels relative to runes, so I did something like buy flat ad tier 1 runes for last hitting until level 20.
I'd also suggest not buying champions at all, but that's more of my personality, which was that once I'd bought a champ I'd almost never play him or her again, with the mentality that I could only play the free champs this week while the ones I owned could be played at any time. That was just personal preference though.

I think buying a few core champs is good. Especially towards the 20+ level. Especially for me I get bored playing only a few hero's, so I have quite a bit of them, and each one is wildly different. For example I have Garen (tank/offtank), Soraka(full support), Nidalee (support/ap(dps)), Yi (AD/Back door'r), Ashe (AD), Gangplank (AD), Zilean (ap/support).
And with having a solid variety allows you to make your team significantly better. So if you notice your team has a Irelia, Xin, Yi, and Miss Fortune, you can round it out with a Ranged AP carry that you're use to, rather than get stuck with a team comp that sucks even worse.

I think it's 150 games with exp boost and 300 without. But there's no need to hurry till level 30.
|
You'll be having fun and learning alot so getting to 30 won't be a problem whatsoever. Atleast it wasn't for me and i hate grinding
|
im level 27, started my account like 3 months ago... didnt played much
|
Under no circumstances buy an xp boost, it's just money down the drain. If you like the game enough to spend money on it you'll hit level 30 soon enough
|
oh man when I started it was 90 games but since they changed the EXP skew it takes forever :[ gl man best way to play is ask LiquidParty to smurf with you imo atleast your not bored alone is the way I see it.

you shouldn't ever get EXP boosts they aren't worth it. if you were to get a boost get an IP boost for a day or something.
