In all honesty, if you're playing a support champ, most games don't even last long enough for you to buy even one big item assuming you're constantly warding, which you should be.
In my experience (1500s elo) whenever I play support, I usually end up with something along the lines of 3 drings/gold10 items and upgraded boots. If i'm getting a crapton of assist gold (usually with Taric or Janna) I may be able to afford an Aegis or some low-cost aura item. The only time I've ever actually acquired any reasonable amount of gold was as a Taric when I went like 2-3-16 and ended up with 3 drings, mercs, deathcap. And this was a game that was extremely one-sided that my team just dominated.
Really, if you put Nidalee bot, she will be worthless. She absolutely needs farm to be any effective. The base values on her heal is pretty low. It only seems to be insane in many cases because of it's extremely high AP ratio. Without farm, her heal is very mediocre.
The whole support = no farm deal is also why some champs, namely Karma and now Zilean, aren't played much at all or seem to underperform when you put them in a support role. The reason is because those champs innately really aren't supports. They're nukers that just happen to have a skillset with lots of utility. The issue becomes when you put them in a support role, their ability to do shit is severely diminished due to the fact that they need farm to perform well.

at 1500s you're better off just building a big item rather than wards tbh your teammates won't even use the knowledge from your wards efficiently, you'll be wasting gold only time i actively buy wards in solo queue is if i'm jungling, and only like pre-level 9

I'm thinking that might be the reason why I'm doing pretty well with my current Nid playstyle; at this elo I suppose it doesn't matter since nobody can take advantage of my badness xD

In solo queue I ward Dragon, Baron, and enemy buffs (occasionally) if I'm jungle, appropriate brush if I'm laning, and wherever I need when I inevitably give up and go solo push.

Must just be the people I'm playing against; whenever I have to play support I prefer Nidalee over Taric just because she's more fun to play, and have done pretty well.
Most of TL likes to theorycraft at ideal/high elo situations. In all honesty, support Nidalee (and most everything else imaginable) will work until, at the very least, 1500. I wouldn't be surprised if it remained viable even higher though. Point is, do what you enjoy and /ignoreall is your friend.

I don't think it's wise to generalize 1500s because it's such a dice roll. There are legit teams that actually take advantage of wards. Sometimes. You never really know.

ive played vs a nid/teemo bot lane and it was pretty tough

Sometimes you can save ur teammates by just being map aware yourself and pinging like a madman.

o yeah i mean i ward my own lane when i'm laning but if i'm playing support i don't go out of my way to ward their jungle and whatnot. it just doesn't do much for you

This is what I do as well. Ward the important stuff, ward your lane obviously, but don't go broke on wards unless its late-game and you have so much cash it doesn't matter.

1500-1600 solo queue is one of the most frustrating experiences in video game history

Yeah I'm 1500 right now so I could see why it still works.
Anyhow thanks for all the input from everyone :D definitely gave me a better understanding of Nid.

How does everybody besides Ashe buys three compare to having support buy twelve?
It's not like laners don't find themselves with a little leftover money after purchasing their stuff.

SmashGizmo,
quite happy to hear Brother Ali on your stream. Nice choice!

Riot tech support OP, actually fixed my problem

Since laning is generally about racing for items, you can't realistically expect the three farmers to buy many wards or else it'll delay their big items too much and if the other team takes advantage of the timing, they can get precious objectives.
