Plus his Q scales off his mana so he'll still get slight damage increase.

Sigh, I am looking at the ability as a whole. Your core build is boots/AA/ROA/Frozen Heart right? If my rough math is right, at lvl 18 with that core build you have roughly 3800 mana but only 120ish AP. How much more useful is 300 bonus mana on a mana pool that size as opposed to nearly doubling your base AP?

I guess we will have to agree to disagree, you think its going to be epic and I think going to be terrible.

Remember that they also change his other abilities, they will ALSO scale with Mana.
It´s going to be terrible in the 1 shot supernuke playstyle he currently has but it´s exactly what makes him subpar right now.
He is supposed to have a more consistent spell -> damageoutput, thus you need plenty of Mana.

Regarding Irelia, looks like we finally might get a Tank again - depending how exactly her numbers end up. She can close in with Q and should the enemy Team focus her she migitates the CC and "upgrades" her own slow to a stun.

Really? I saw his W was going to scale with total mana, but that was not mentioned at all for either his Q or E.

Also I am interested in if his Ult is retaining in AOE effect.

For reference here are the "confirmed" notes:

* General
o Attack speed per level increased to 3 from 2.112

* Overload
o Cooldown reduced to 7.5/6.5/5.5/4.5/3.5 from 11/10/9/8/7
o Base Damage reduced to 20/40/60/80/100
o Mana cost changed to 75/70/65/55 from 30/65/80/95/110
o Missile speed increased to 1400 from 1200
o AP ratio increased to .5 from .45
o Range increased to 700 from 600.

* Rune Prison
o No longer deals damage per tick and deals 60/95/130/165/200 damage up front (down from 80/120/160/200/240 over the duration)
o AP Ratio changed to a flat .6 from .4/.6/.8/1/1.2 (depending on snare duration)
o Now deals 5% of Ryze’s maximum mana in bonus damage.
o Cast range increased to 650 from 600.

* Spell flux
o AP ratio per hit reduced to .2 from .38
o Mana cost reduced to 60/65/70/75/80 from 60/80/100/120/140.
o Cast range increased to 700 from 625

* Desperate Power
o No longer grants AP, but now grants 20/25/30 % movespeed.
o Duration changed to 4/5/6 from 8.
o Now grants a temporary 100/200/300 mana.

His Q already scales with mana. Unless they say otherwise, that's probably not going away.

Yea, his Q already adds 10% mana to the damage.

His ult will still do AoE... again, since they're not saying anything about it going away, I think it's safe to assume it's sticking around.

They're also axing the cost on his Q by half at max level, which is really big.

I forgot about that. I am still a bit underwhelmed tho at bonus mana rather than bonus AP though. 300 extra mana equates to an extra 30 dmg on Q and an extra 15 damage on W. The 105 AP would be an extra ~52 dmg on Q and 126 dmg on W using the the improved ratios.

We shall see though. I could play him and be completely overwhelmed, I just remain skeptical.

Edit- I agree the new Q is GREAT. I also love the new W (Rune Prison). Its just the new Ult I am wary of.

Doesn't matter that he loses out on AP, you can toss out like 2 E, and 3 Q's in the duration of 1 ult now, and most likely have 2 usage of rune prison within that timeframe as well.

Man, with Ryze possibly getting all those changes, he might just be a real powerhouse, but practice will have to show what theorycrafting I'm seeing. Hopefully he'll get a lot more plays though, you nearly don't see him well enough.

I must say, AD Kass is lots of fun. Well in that last game our Eve kinda disliked my build, but honestly, I just suck with Kassadin in general (until now). I played him a grand total of two times. I doubt my build was the biggest problem :p

Played him earlier this week and it was 10% in the tooltip. So unless the tooltip is bugged or it's a TR thing, it's still 10%.

True but I still would have preferred the longer ult time (8 sec vs 6 sec) and the better bonus damage. These changes certainly make Ryze a better poker. He just wont have the ability the OMGWTFBBQ on a moments notice anymore.

When to free-farm off an undefended tower, and when to take it?

This applies strictly to top tower, as mid tower and bot tower you always want out of the way ASAP to get map control.
