I'm honestly more frustrated with the community's view of Pantheon than Riot specifically. My thread suggesting that HSS was the problem and that the skill should be removed got downvote closed in under an hour. (http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=399519)
I mean, fuck, we had a pantheon that high elo could live with when HSS was a complete non-factor... why did they have to reintroduce that problem to fuck everything up?

Pantheon's Niche atm is AoE burster behind a strong AoE disable initiation. Namely, I <3 Pantheon + Malphite on TT as they can pretty much 75% combo the entire opposing team.

yep, its mind boggling how in the world did they thought that reverting a change that was meant to balance panth out in the first place, HSS has been like a cancer to panth since forever and now instead of fixing the shit that is causing the problem they go on about killing his other skillsets, fuking drive me nuts. and by fixing i don mean just tweaking the dmg scaling of that shit, i mean a total redesign of that skillset. HSS isn't even that good of a spell design.

Riot seems to have some issue with just accepting that certain skills are useless. For example, they did took a similar balancing path with Udyr, where Tiger Stance was basically useless but he was still a fine jungler. However, instead of just leaving well enough alone, they felt the need to buff Tiger Stance while nerfing Phoenix, leading to the current, much much worse implementation of Udyr.

The main problem with all of the qq around pantheon is that no one is aware how to play against him at low elo. Whenever pantheon manages to get through bans onto the other team, I immediately pick a ranged carry or caster and call whichever lane pants is going to be in, because I know i can lane against him, not die, and therefore beat him in lane. The simple truth is this: people dont want to have to change their playstyle based on their opponents. It was the same problem with leblanc when she came out. Just because you can free farm when facing another ranged carry doesnt mean you can do it when your facing a strong laning champion. But most people seem to think that is the case, and qq about it.
I started playing pants after the hss buff, so I dont have much experience with the prior incarnation of him. But Pants 2.0 had one major flaw: the w>hss combo cost 140 mana. Which means you basically cannot harass with spears, and if you fail to kill your opponent with a combo, you arent going to be able to do it again for a long while.
The best fix for that pantheon, imo, would have been to increase the mana cost of both abilities by a bit. Would the combo still hurt? Yes. but you wouldnt be able to do it twice in a row. But instead they nerfed his damage, lowered the damage on his spear, lowered his stun, and people will still complain that he is op until he is considered useless again. I just kinda wish they reverted him to how he was prior to the hss buff. My understanding is he was fine then, and you never really saw all that much of him unless the person playing him was actually good.
Edit: The other thing they could do would be to revert him, move his w to e, remove hss, and make his new w an ability that passively is the same as hss, but instead provides a damage buff, crit buff, or additional effect to his next skill when activated. For example, if they made it kind of like kats w, they could make it so w>q proced a slow, and w>e meant his next attack would autocrit.

That's actually more confusing to me than their attitude about Panth, tbh.
If you have 4 non-ultimate skills, and can only max three of them, there's going to be a worst one that's left in the dust. Sure, there's the possibility that you might get balance *exactly* right such that two of them are equally viable, but the likelihood of that is so small, and that balance is so fragile that it's utterly pointless to plan around that. Just leave one skill useless and accept that it's gonna be that way (or just give him a real ultimate).

Meh, my master yi is pretty terrible. Pants is easy cuz of his flash stun, auto crits and whichever source of damage you chose to go.

always felt the same way, every change riot has made to panth has made the character legitimately less fun for me to play because they've made his enjoyable skills worse and worse and hss stronger and stronger, what the fuck? Literally the only fun part of using hss is seeing gold float up on your screen, it's not a well designed ability at all...
I haven't played him in like a week and a half and he used to be by far my favorite character. I've just given up on him, I hate his current form and it makes me sadface.

For those who lane against Ren but aren't familiar with his stuff. Just treat him like Vladmir. His cooldowns suck until he levels up- so just watch for his abilities. Once you see one of them, you're probably safe for ~10 seconds. If you harass him to any degree, he'll be forced to waste his Q at less tactical moments- buying you ~10 more seconds.

My bad then. I was taking that as being on level with comparing a good player to a bad player ulting on kennen. Sure the good player will get more out of it but both will be effective.
