I played GW, which never had any issues with patches. At least none that I can remember, and none that made the game unplayable. I suspected that it had something to do with what MoonBear said about LoL using bad coding and the understaffing due to them not realizing the extent to which LoL would become popular. They designed a great game, but it's sad to see how so many other, non-game related things are holding them back so hard.

Oh wait, nevermind I said that, I'd rather just split the EU scene in 2 parts and solve it that way instead of actually adressing the issue at hand which is a poorly coded game with a poor infrastructure to support it.

From what I know they were getting new servers (renting a building + buying the servers) for project shiny. Plus bring out the new coding with the new launcher beforehand for all the stuff they wanted to do. Psy said that wayyyy back + riot made a lot of random posts about it over the past months. But I think Psy was talking mainly about US servers since he did work in Cali. ![]() The EU split was probably an easier way for them to deal with how many EU players there are. At least that explanation makes the most sense to me.

I think it is which is why it is kind of depressing. They are doing something with definite negative long term consequences to fix this short term problem. It probably makes sense from a quarter-based business perspective but with dota 2 on the horizon its a good reason for their biggest playerbase to abandon them.

Digging deeper, part of the reason the client is unstable is because the servers are working over capacity, which the split + more servers aim to solve. The other part is that the client is not robust enough to work under bad server conditions. Adding more servers and splitting the load IS addressing the poor infrastructure problem, which in turn alleviates the client issues.

It really annoys me, if this game had the infrastructure that HoN has it would be so fucking amazing. Now its like a cripple of a game that you play because you feel sorry for it and that if you care enough it'll become good.

The adobe air PvP.net client is what's currently unstable, and solving that would require the whole client to be rewritten (adobe air was not a long-term decision for a platform). I think the whole adding servers thing Brent talked about was supposed to be released along with project shiny so I kind of just put the 2 together when I think of them in my mind. *shrugs*

And Blizzard cannot claim lack of funds or staff which Riot has definite claims to

Haha, I was about to do the same thing with Flat AP vs MPen quints. XD But really it depends on what spells and items you have, it's very situational.
