After a short holiday break, we’re back to bring you all the news you might have missed this past two weeks.

News
  • After days of speculation, it was finally confirmed that Arthelon will be joining Cloud9 as the team prepares for the upcoming Spring Circuit. The former Tempo Storm carry will undoubtedly be a strong addition to Cloud9’s roster, and we wish the team the best of luck.

  • And just as Arthelon joins Cloud9’s squad, Fan Yang, at this point one of biggest stars in the scene, has left C9 and joined Bob Ross Fan Club, one of the strongest independent teams lead by the Buechter brothers, Christopher “Zuna” and Kenneth “Kenma”.

  • Dustin Browder hasn’t been very active on Twitter because of the holidays. However, he took the time to answer to a suggestion of a player. What if the Core gained shields depending on how many keeps it has? it would reward players for taking more keeps and make rushing the core a little more difficult, giving the teams a bigger defender's advantage. Dustin thinks the idea is worth considering -- yet another great example of how player feedback is very valuable for Blizzard developers.

  • He also tweeted a couple of other interesting thoughts. For example, he mentions the team is considering bringing the StarCraft 2 MMR decay system to Heroes of the Storm, which is something that had already been brought up before, but it's good to hear they are still considering it.

Tournaments
  • http://wiki.teamliquid.net/heroes/Heroes_Rising is the first major tournament of the year. Taking place the 9th and 10th of January (this weekend!), the tournament features both the best established teams and newcomers in North America. Tempo Storm, Cloud9, Murloc Geniuses, Panda Global, oVo, COGnitive Gaming, Bob Ross Fan Club, Team Blaze and King of Blades-Alpha will fight for a $10,000 dollar prize pool at the eSports Arena in Santa Ana, California. This is what the players had to say about the tournament:

TeamLiquid Spotlight
  • The LiquidHeroes team did a skin giveaway for the New Year, giving away several random skins. If you missed out on things this time, don't worry! We'll be doing more skin giveaways in the future, so make sure to follow us @LiquidHeroes to keep up to date and get your chance at a free skin!

  • Episode 4 of Nexus Nights is OUT! Though we had some difficulty in reviving some of our hosts in the aftermath of New Years, we managed to get it together and put on a show anyway! In this episode, we talked about some of the teams in the changing NA scene as well as how maps affect Heroes in a special way compared to other games like League and Dota.

  • r_gg brought us this great breakdown of the Korean tournamament, Heroes Community Open Tournament, from how the tournament developed to stand out games and meta snapshots.

Community:
  • The player's favorite caster, Khaldor, made a very detailed post about the meta changes in the game has had this year. It's pretty interesting to see how much the game has evolved in it's first year and you can't help but wonder how much it will evolve in 2016.

  • KendricSwissh brought us his personal compilation of the best clips of 2015. It's full of amazing plays and cool moments, we promise you it's worth every second.

And is it a sign that TL's gonna make a site for Hots?

That is very unlikely, at least not in the foreseeable future.

I kind of expected Greymane to have been released this week. Hasn't it been 3 weeks since Lunara? Also looking forward to news about what the next set of hero releases are going to be.

Replace the unknown crappy Heroes MMR system with the known crappy SC2 MMR system?

No, he explicitly said the SC2 MMR system works pretty well. So I guess they have a different MMR system for sc2 that they'll bring over.

I miss the crappy last build of match making, cause it worked for me. New one seems to make more people rage. Decay system would be funny, I could get a 100% win rate on an alt account with Zagara xD.

I think the new system is a lot better in terms of matching you with people around your skill level, though Rank 1 players tend to suffer still. Otherwise, the QM algorithms they introduced are wonky as hell. My QM comps never make remotely any sense anymore.

It has been suggested that they switch to a blind pick system for quick match. Meaning each team picks their heroes before the game starts, but both teams can have the same heroes. That way your team always has the opportunity to put together a solid comp for every match and all the match making has to do is put players of similar skill together, not worry about trying to make fair comps.

The biggest disadvantage being someone from your team could "steal" your hero pick. This would be very common every time a new hero is released and everyone wants to play them.

Bringing MMR decay to HotS....ffs no.
This DID NOT well is sc2, at all, ever....ever
Do you really want to have your MMR tank by an (sc2) equivalent of a league a week or two?
I don't think that many forgot how to click buttons in a week.
Just NO.

edit: to clarify. This resulted is mass stagnation of the mid leagues. It took well over a year for blizz to finally remove this nonsense once the crying really began. Now they want to bring the same broken system, that proved to be practically bad to another game.

Maybe it should not be surprising when they also say things like 'sc2 1v1 matchmaker is quite good, we can just plop the same statistic for team games and call it a day.' Team games are notoriously hard to get matched properly, but statements like this show how little the people muttering it understand the math behind the system.
