It was to be expected as blizzard is keeping up with the 3 week releases plus all the spotlights and the appearance in the app usually signal the hero will be released in the following Tuesday (he was on display since Saturday I believe so it would mean release today).
It also makes sense giving the end of the eternal conflict.
Tempo Storm ZP is streaming on Rexxar now in the TRY hero demo, just saw feign death is an ability that makes you temporarily invulnerable and still able to control Misha.
Dreadnaught's doing an analysis too. Apparently Rexxar can talent his bird to one-shot a wave (other than the footmen). That's kind of lame on the heels of Leoric's and Johanna's OP wave clear.
* Level 7 has a lot of good talents. It's a shame this is where the bird-as-waveclear talent is, because having misha's charge reduce in cooldown would be cool--- but making the bird useful seems better. * Misha is very tanky, but rexxar is not. In fact, he lacks escapes or any kind of defensive abilities aside from the slow on his bird. * Misha is difficult to control in combat in such a way that doesn't get rexxar killed too, but there seems to be a logic to the madness. If I a-move an enemy, then move command away from battle, misha charges in and rexxar moves away. Before too long misha will start running away from the fight, though. Wish she was independent controlled ala vikings. * It feels like letting misha take damage is not a bad thing. Specifically, she can tank tower shots pretty well, which means she can deplete ammo early game with little hindrance. That being said, when she dies Rexxar is pretty useless. Fortunately her death timer is a small amount, and she always spawns on rexxar. * Misha does more attack damage then you do. Remember that she's the star of the show.
Just tried Rexxar, he seems fun I think I'm going to buy it (btw, remember to answer the poll on our weekly thread!). However, my god, that talent that makes the bird insta kill the minion waves... I don't undertsand why Blizzard keeps giving the warriors better wave clear than specialist. Even then having a talent that powerful makes it an obvious pick for most games, why not have a nerfed version of it integrated in the ability since the beggining if you are going to pick that talent every game?
Also, I think they will really need to buff Rexxar's survaibility or at least make misha better at protecting you. But I could also be wrong I'm pretty new with Rexxar so I could suck
note the bird doesn't exactly insta-kill minion waves. it is too thin to hit a minion wave in a ball, so you can only kill the whole wave sometimes. it is not as good as johanna or leoric's innate abilities. (it feels about as good as melting point, but at level 7 instead of level 4)
I think good control of misha is key here. I can harass enemy mages from almost a full screen away with her if I do things right.
After a night of QM games, this is my rough thoughts on the talents-
Level 1- Hunter-Gatherer or Grizzled Bear. I slightly prefer Hunter-Gatherer since it is more versatile and helps out rexxar himself. (When I take it, I don't feel like misha takes too much damage from the lack of block, so... Level 4- Hungry Bear is the only thing I see worth taking here. (but maybe I'm missing a "bird build" of some sort) Level 7- Aspect of Beast or Bird of Prey. I've been taking bird any game I have hunter-gatherer, but aspect is really good. Hard to choose between them. [hotslogs says people are taking the increased ranged attack. when I took it, it felt like rexxar still had to get too close to battle.] Level 10- Bestial Wrath. Level 13- Bear Necessities. I've gotten so many clutch plays with this. It works in team fights when someone dodges your skill, it works for chasing since misha is faster when she dashes, and it's good for getting double-stun/damage off on merc camps. Level 16- I am unhappy with almost every talent at this tier. Feign Death unless Primal Intimidation can be useful. (illidan/raynor in game). If enemy team is targeting misha down while you are kiting her, the healing talent seems pretty good--- but so far most enemies are focusing on diving onto me to stop misha. Level 20- Spirit Bond, though I suppose hardened shield might be good. [Note it's a special version that applies to misha too.]
In terms of play style, knowing that by pressing your "a" key and then selecting an enemy, then immediately right-clicking near you will cause misha to charge after that enemy seems pretty important.
* Makes it easier to have misha charge towers, soaking shots in the early game. * Makes it easier to have misha run in and harass while you are safely a quarter to half screen away. * During teamfights, Misha can pretty safely chase retreating damaged heroes, and has a follow-up stun to boot. * Makes it easier to position Misha ideally in team fights.
I don't know why this is the preferred mechanic for controlling the bear. I think it's a super non-intuitive and clunky way to give players control over misha's movements. The one downside to it is you can't attack while she is chasing, because the moment you target a different enemy she will go bounding after that enemy. Maybe in this way it's a balancing mechanism--- if you want misha to run far away from you, your main char has to effectively be channeling. It feels kind of like popping a ravenous spirit on nazeebo that does less damage but that can stun the entire enemy team. (!!!)
Talent impressions for me so far: Level 1: Flare is really good, it's like a better version of tassadar's trait mostly although it doesn't detect I believe. But scouting tools are not always needed nor useful in pubs so Hunter-Gatherer or Grizzled bear can both be alright although they are unexciting, the passive heal on the bear feels useless often as I take a heal talent for him at 4 or 7 typically anyway which both give him enough heal to not really need hunter-gatherer but it's still useful for yourself although it's a weak regen master for you. Survivalist training feels terrible. Level 4: Hungry bear is quite solid healing, in fights too. Easy prey looks terrible as the damage reduction is hardly better than hungry bear for soaking mercs but he does become a really sweet jungler with it, perhaps on some maps. Taking flight feels poor, mana refund is not a big deal nor is the tiny range boost on the ability, rather take crippling talons which really improves the CC and is typically the pick I think. Level 7: Bird of prey is of course compared to stuff like Knight takes pawn, getting great waveclear is a pretty big deal. But I don't really like this talent, it's too hard to hit a large part of a wave with it. Unlike Knight takes pawn or leoric you won't be killing entire waves with this unless they are still in a line and you have time to get right position. Besides waveclear talents are less interesting if they come only at lvl 7. Throwing axes feels unneccesary, as the damage of rexxar himself isn't that high anyway so you might as well just safely attack the tank often I feel. Later talents that boost his attack feel lackluster for the same reason, don't really know how this effects leash and targeting for misha though. For example it seems you can retarget misha while mounted without actually attacking but this talent makes you dismount yourself faster then. Aspect of the beast is quite sweet, don't know numbers exactly yet but feels like it can half the cooldown of charge if misha get's to attack a lot which is quite good, especially with the activated spell block for misha later. Blood of the rhino is one i quite like though but i see everyone dismiss. It doubles the healing of mend pet and makes him have constant heal up, it's superfluous with the heal talents at lvl 1 and 4 for misha but if you don't have those this is a pretty good combat heal for misha and my preferred pick actually. But I'm not sure how popular targeting misha will be yet.
Level 10, i prefer unleash the boars so far. It's a huge crippling slow in a wide arc that can hit entire teams with some damage to boot. Bestial wrath doesn't feel that great as misha's basic attack damage isn't so big a 150% increase on that feels like much.
Level 13, bear neccesities feels terrible. The charge is easy to hit so it's biggest use feels like double charging minions/mercs but if you want extra damage there just take the burning rage. The burning rage is a buffed version of the normal one for misha which is really good as the bear should oftne be close to them, plus it clears waves/mercs really well. Especially great since you can leave a wave/camp earlier with rexxar and have misha finish it off and then he catches up with you. Thrill of the hunt feels bad too, 25% is ok but the speed is most needed when you need to retreat when it won't proc. You can't really kite well with his slow attack so stopping for 1 attack to proc this won't help you run. Barkskin is pretty nice too especially combined with aspect of the beast obviously. I found wildfire bear to good to pass on though.
Level 16, the imposing presence variant is really good. But sometimes that isn't so useful of course. The critical pet heal talent feels lackluster, won't activate enough I think. Initially I thought the improved attack damage on hawk would be terrible too but it is 100%. To compare for example, it will add about as much dps as a Zeratul with seasoned marksman taking berserk. You won't get movement speed but you can have this up for 3 seconds every 7 seconds which is quite good, an overlooked talent I think. Of course freely getting to attack with rexxar himself is a big if but if you can i like this. Often you'll be needing feign death though I think, pretty much a better iceblock. But misha is most of your damage so this is pretty nice.
Level 20, frenzy of kalimdor looks crap. It's like nexus blades but with hardly a damage boost. The ult upgrades both look fairly nice, I especially like kill command. A potential 5 man root with a little damage buff. Hardened skin overall looks almost too good to pass up though, rexxar is flimsy as it is and helping misha at the same time to boot is very nice.
Overall feels like a good hero, good in the popular double tank lineups and feels best when he gets to jungle or push a lane. Waveclear not that great unless talented for which I don't recommend at 7 but do like at 13. He soaks tower shots incredibly well though and just pushes buildings quite nicely. I like him in a trilane or left alone to jungle.
Seems like Rexxar himself is fairly squishy as far as warriors go, and that misha is the real tank of the two. Last night there was a Rexx in pretty much every game, but people are obviously still figuring him out.
Didn't see anyone really have the hang of his stun.
He seems to be in a similar vein as Tyrael, but ranged.
Misha is currently doing well if you move forward, then she is easy to handle. But if you run away its a bit more tricky.
So anyway, if you want to have Misha scout ahead to look for troubles you have to order move commands far away from your position. If you want to have Misha run behind you, you are only allowed to click within her leash range in front of your hero (or if Misha is far ahead somwhere between you two). That allows you to also have her attack stuff that chases you. Its a bit tricky and you have to move holding the right mouse button if you want her to stay behind you. I found out that when pulling back entering camera lock mode makes this easier.
Just pointing it out, because I heard a few complains about Misha running far ahead of you when you retreat.
I really enjoyed playing as him during the few QMs I had.I found I miss Misha, Charge pretty often since I feel like Misha gets a little lost in big team fights. I think Rexxar can be put into the same category as Sonya. He's a warrior that can tank fairly okay with Misha and they can do a ton of siege if they're left alone in a lane for too long,
I recorded my first match if anyone would like a look!
My impression is pretty much the same as everyone else's - he's like Sonya. Great for push and laning, dangerous if left alone, but too squishy to solo tank and can be burst down quickly in fights.
That said, he has more utility than Sonya imo, not least because he is ranged - his variety of stuns and slows can be really helpful in a fight, picking off targets, and chasing kills.

Laning he isn't that fast at all though, only if you talent for it at level 7 and even then you are just ok, it often isn't really possible to hit the entire wave with the owl. Mercing is more his power imo, especially good at bosses and giants.
Hitting the entire wave is not that hard. You just need to "intercept" the minions before they get to your own minion wave. They will all be in a line there so you can kill them pretty easily.
I just played 4 games with Rexxar. Hes a nice hero, really like his concept but I feel like his trait should be a little bit more reactive. I feel like if I put him on attack and I run away sometimes I want misha to keep attacking but if I run he also runs even in attack mode. Mb if I run and immediately use abiltiy then he keeps attacking then it works better but haven't really tried that.
I think that if u put misha in attack mode he should just attack if there is something to attack, syncing with your attack targets when you are attacking and randomly attacking things if you are running. And if you put him on retreat yeah then he should retreat. But mb I'm not really playing him right?

Whats your guys experience with him?
He has a leash range which seems to be about the range of his vision, if you get further away Misha will run towards Rexxar no matter what stance.
I get that the leash range is there, if there wasn't you could do silly stuff like start a merc camp with Misha and go all the way to lane while Misha finishes the camp (with the level 4 talent Misha solo's Knights pretty easily). That would be unthematic and too good probably so the beastmaster has to be close.
There are some problems with retreating though, if you retreat you can't possibly get Misha to attack your chaser without stopping your running. You need to order an attack command which means you must interrupt your escape somehow. This feels kind of stupid. Even more stupid as clicking out of your leash range seems to let Misha go in front of you while clicking in your leash range let's Misha follow you. So if you want to engage or scout ahead with Misha it seems you need to click far away but if you want to escape you need to be clicking small distances, which is pretty counterintuitive as you typically click far away if you escape ('just GTFO') while you do close clicks if you engage the enemy to position as best as possible.
It would have much less frustating if Misha couldn't block Rexxar. Also if you pull back Misha because of the Leash range or the passive she waits to be retargeted instead of automatically reengaging a target that is in the leash range on aggressive stance. I wish Misha would just autopick a target unless assigned a target.
Overall it feels like a good hero but you have constant struggles with the AI like Anub'arak used to have with the beetles. But where the beatles are not essential to anub'arak Misha is and the AI bugging out is stupidly annoying. Controlling if Misha walks in front or behind you is annoyingly hard. Pathing around corners for Misha is sometimes downright stupid too. And only being able to target with attacking is hell too. Rexxar also shows the frustation of not having Move command in the game, often you want to 'tag' something with rexxar and then just move out, but if you accidentally attack a minion your Misha goes useless.
Finally mounting up also seems to let Misha go her master which can be annoying. Sometimes you just want to let Misha finish and cap a camp while you mount up to move away already but Misha moves towards you (without being called) and it stops the camp capping. Misha finish a camp/wave while Rexxar moves on seems essential to maximizing him but feels dodgy at times. With TLV for example it's pretty common to have Erik cap the camp while the rest moves on to be as fast as possible and it's a nice skillfull feature, so should it be with Rexxar but it's so damn dodgy.
I just wished the AI was smarter or D would allow more manual control of Misha like you can control water elemental as Jaina, with just the added restriction of Misha's leash range.
I have no problem having Misha attack people that chase me. Just need to have her behind you then click a bit further away. Attack your enemy and run away again. If you do it fast enough Rexxar won't even turn around.
I am sure they will improve the AI. But right now everything is easy to achieve, just needs a bit of rethinking. And personally I like heroes that behave different. I mean camera lock is actually useful for once !
my only experience with rexxar is against him. i tried multiple heroes and so far melee assassins do reaaaally good vs him. Example Kerrigan: Ignore Misha, jump on Rexxar and more or less insta kill him with combo, bear explodes too Example Ilidan: A bit more tricky cause ili needs a lot more time to finish Rexxar and by then Misha does a gread deal of CC'ing you. Often i had to retreat without a kill Example Zera: If Rexxar is not on full HP--> ezpz. If Rexxar is on full HP--> very hard and same as illi often had to blink away cause of Misha

This is my general impression too. Rexxar has amazing utility between slows and stuns as well as the annoying ability to stick onto people with bear. I played against Abathur cloning Rexxar earlier today and it was just brutal because our entire team was just perpetually slowed and stunned. On the other hand, his "tanking" and damage are kinda meh, so I don't really think they're worth emphasizing. I think he's come around at the right time in the meta to do well now that double warrior is becoming more common.
As for countering him, yeah, anyone who can just walk past Misha and destroy Rexxar's rather low health pool are good. If you can lock him down for a second or two, he's super easy to just burst down, and the Misha threat is gone ^^.
His teamfight is completely different from Sonya tho. I wonder if he is going to be a thing with the double warrior meta, Johanna Rexxar, Muradin Rexxar. Overlaps a bit with Leoric.
Rexxar dies to easily now. Maybe it's because I've been mostly playing solo, but most assassins can just skip misha and target Rexxar, even with the leash range, and since you can't control misha, it is hard to make it protect you. Since Rexxar heals are over time, this would help him survive more, but not make him unkilliable, and also would help not have Rexxar at 1/4 health while misha is at full health after an engagement, after all you wan't Rexxar to be alive, whereas Misha es expendable.

I heard on stream that Abathur can clone Misha directly, would that be preferable? You lose Spirit Hawk and a little dps (do you lose mend pet too?), but you lose the liability of cRexxar eating it.
On September 12 2015 01:23 FeyFey wrote: so both would almost be unkillable ? Giving Rexxar heal would make it to hard to stop Misha Imo.
Wouldn't he just be like any melee with first aid at that point? I don't know if he really needs buffs (it's super early after all), but it was surprising to see how many of his tank talents were Misha only.
I really like him. Kinda strong, but better in double/triple-warrior comps.
I've gone block/crippling talons/AotB/UTB/thrill/feign or hawk/UTB2. Feels like the best build to me, buffing Misha seems like a useless strategy. With this build though, you can stick onto people forever. And i really mean forever lol.
I have to admit that Blizzard did a good job on tuning the AI. You can really use Misha for a lot: avoiding dismount, dismounting enemies, soaking dmg from stuff like triple tap or being a "sacrifice" like Murky/Vikings. It would be really nice if one day you could actually control Misha like you do with vikings. Dunno if it'd be too op though (hue i gank with my bear and soak kkthx)
One thing that really confuses me is how slow his attack speed is. And then top of it off with Frenzy of Kalimdor enhancing damage (seriously wtf blizz?). I guess it's cus of AotH. Would be nice though if they fixed/buffed that. I feel that since Rexxar is a hunter he should be fast as fuck, cus how are you gonna rape animals if you're fat and slow?
you throw one axe and the animal is dead ? He is half ork half oger. So he is more about tracking stuff down and being relentless. Being fast would be odd here. But I guess he is kinda squishy for an oger haha.
