But why would they call it HotS? Won't people just get it confused with the Starcraft HotS?

I'm surprisingly impressed.

This game corrects many of the reasons why I believe that Dota sucks.

I've been complaining for a long time that in Dota, games needlessly last probably on average 45 minutes, despite the fact that the winner is mostly obvious after 15-20 minutes, with the rest of the game being completely pointless, since the winner is already known. It's great to see that they're reducing game length down to 15-20 minutes.

It's also great that there's multiple maps, whereas Dota 2 quickly becomes boring and monotonos on the same maps.

I really like the directions they're taking with HoTS, we'll see how it works out and if the extras they add in are good for competitive play or not. If it's not good for competitive play, I'm not complaining. I like new stuff.

Sorry I haven't been able to keep up with this but - they did announce when the beta would be available to play? (I know we can opt in now.)

If this game uses the SC2 engine, it's primed for failure.

SC2 engine is absolutely horrible for any serious competitive games due to streamlining of pathing, spell-animation, attack animation and etc.

I predict this game will be a glorified version of the hero siege custom maps from WC3.

So, is all the Heroes of The Storm news from Blizzcon out? Nothing else to expect?

Also, is there anywhere I can find all the information released at one place? I'm gathering bits of info here and there, any page with it all?

I've got to second that. Every single aspect of the engine that you claim makes the game horrible for serious competition is completely editable.

I would agree with the idea in general, I don't think this game has a snowball's chance in hell of being a serious competitive game. I think balancing the number of heroes I anticipate the game having with the amount of customization each one looks like they're going to have along with the individual maps is going to be a nightmare, and I don't think that they're going to get it to the point where it's truly competitive in an MLG/Dreamhack/ETC level. I do believe very much that it's going to be an absolute blast, however, and will be a humongous success with the non-competitive scene.

As far as I'm aware (a bit behind myself) this is mostly just learned from the opening ceremonies kinda stuff. I'd be very surprised if some sort of longer game play videos don't get released or leaked after the con. Personally I've been following Kotaku and just using the links they provide as they do, but I'm at work so that's partially why.

Dota is balanced towards professional level, if the game winner is ''mostly obvious'' after 15-20 minutes you would think progamers would GG right there, but they don't, because it's not, and the ''rest'' of the game is not pointless.

SC2 will only be called Hots up until the next expansion and you can call Heroes of the storm just heroes or something else. The brand name is more important that the potential overlap. If it's a good name or not is a different matter but if you assume it is good then it's pretty irrelevant.

He can't. The engine is more than hearty enough for a MOBA.

Only the client not the game engine itself. So please get your facts straight.

You're so ridiculously wrong it's almost not worth of an answer. The only reason games aren't closer is because in pubs whiners will throw the towel as soon as something goes wrong. The truth is the game is extremely well balanced, and allows comebacks in a ton of situations.

It's a game that rewards a team for creating an advantage by setting an uphill slope for the opposing team to climb, but at the same time, a well planned battle can set the base for a comeback pretty frequently.

The game only becomes boring when you give up early (or someone on your team, which is why pubs can get boring)

I think the fact there will be no items in HotS makes it a completely different game compared to Dota/LoL so idk, it might find its niche and become like a gateway-game to ARTS but... don't really see it as a 'competitive' game.

considering all the mechanisms that are in place to keep the winning team winning in Dota, I don't think you can claim that the game allows comebacks very often. It happens, but it's mostly when one team has pushed down a few tier 3 towers, but somehow forgotten that the other team has a PL farming unmolested somewhere on the map, they have no real counters and then the tide turns. But with all the unreliable gold stuff, the mega creeps, the aegis and other ways to gain an advantage.. a team in the lead will stay in the lead and ultimately win, unless that team really messes up.

With about 1500 Dota2 pub games played by now, I don't think I've ever seen a game get turned around by just playing better (smoke plays, de-warding, organizing initiations, baiting etc).. there really should be an automatic "game is safe to leave" function that kicks in once you've reached a certain gold/xp/tower deficit, because more often than not, the game is wasting your time by design.
