With such shitty drafts (I've detailed more than one in this thread or the arena one) I'm lucky to have 2 games where I have a semblance of control. I can't even feel like I played badly: I usually play the single one thing I can in most situations.
I'm given such shit choices that even though I hear everywhere that Rogues give Mages trouble, Mage is the single worst class for my runs or in general. Heck, I lose most of my life to minions hits even when I fight spell-oriented mage decks in arena, just because my drafts are utter shit.
See, the 2nd match was against a mage with double Argent Commander (the 4/2 charge divine shield). It's a mage. I've been given a bunch of 1 health minions for my early. He's got arcane thingy for 3 random damage and his hero power so I can't maintain board control to save my life unless I attack his 3/2 and 3/1 with my hero, and it's more "keep the board clean" than "have board control". Then I've shit for 4 drops, he has flamestrike, I have no lategame, I autolose early game to his power and spells, so I autolose the game. Was truly thrilling to "play" that one out. I think I'ma start streaming more HS when I get home in a few days; maybe we can get the TLLOLOTGD crew to come hang out and give tips/advice and stuff and you and I can learn some stuff. I definitely understand where you're coming from but especially since trying to climb the ladder in LoL I'm of the attitude that for the most part if you're losing, it's your own fault for whatever reason---so it's probably in our best interests to learn why. It is possible to consistently lose for a fairly long period of time without it being your fault. MtG, for example. One tournament, I was stuck mulliganing to five cards every game because I'd draw six land, then five, then four and be forced to keep. I was running a precisely standard land count, even. The question is whether what he's experiencing really is RNGG or if it's his fault. That's a much harder question to answer unless we can see exactly everything that's been happening.

I try to get the same mindset in LoL, but given the way the draft works in HS I'd rather compare it to a mode where you can only pick amongst 10 champions (not the free week ones, each player gets 10 right after he gets into champ select) and you get 10 amongst your least played, or something like that. You can't really expect to perform in these conditions, it's out of your control, and it's frustrating. Also comparing a top deck to a guy winning the fight that turns the game around because his single crit rune triggers: sure, you're supposed to keep the possibility of it happening in your mind when planning the plays, but it's still a very low probability that randomly screws you over without much skill needed from your opponent.

I agree with the assessment but you have to look at certain things realistically. The top players stay at the top. Why? (I am aware constructed =/= arena, but if you look at the arena runs and gold players like Trump consistently have...)
I just get the feeling it's the same mental bias a lot of LoL players have when they run into feeders/leavers/etc. You notice the bad a lot more when it happens but statistically it doesn't happen to you any more often than anyone else. We've all gotten top decks and had shitty drafts; best thing is to try not to let the mistakes and the bad beats become your entire focus.

I played a warlock deck in Arena. It looked exactly like a constructed deck... I really hate how Blood Imps let other minions survive AoE after they died.
2 Blood Imps out, 2 Flame Imps, Novice Engineers, Ragnaros at the end.

Though when I try to play Warlock, I don't get one Blood Imp at all. Same thing happens when I play Mage. Not one Fireball or Pyroblast.
Arena isn't on my side for a while now.

I had a draft where I could have had about 8 flame imps. I found myself forced to take 5 anyway. I lost pretty badly. I hate imps.

I feel like once your deck rises above 15% flame imps, you probably have too many flame imps.

How do you beat Frost Giants at ranks 1 - 4?? All of my decks have a negative winrate vs it.

Is this the mage deck with the freeze spells, card draw, and the 2x mountain giant 2x molten giant? I've run into it once or twice but never been able to beat it reliably. I doubt my advice will be useful anyway though since I am rank 10.

Well I liked qq'ing in the DOTA 2 qq thread when things don't go your way, and since I've been playing this game a bit more recently, here goes (just made a long rant on playdota.com and my account is suspended on the bnet forums):
K vent time:
This game (arena specifically) is unbelievably fuckin stupid bullshit almost all the time. Struggling just to get 7 wins for at least a gold refund because I keep queue'ing against no name pieces of shit that luck out drafting epic/legendary card after card or 3-5 of some annoying shit card (e.g. flame strike, frostbolt, shadow word pain) while I have no drafts or mulligans to deal with their bullshit legendary luck like Sylvanas Ragnaros (please don't tell me to draft a crap 2/1 owl over other cards that are clearly better than an owl because you think every deck needs a silence). Get 3 losses take your shit reward of 1 card you don't even need, 25 dust, or some low number gold (25) then open your pack and get a standard 4 common 1 rare which you already have. Meanwhile these lucker pricks continue onto the arena who are probably mediocre trash that RNG'd their way to more wins than they deserve. Oh yea I posted my concerns on the bnet forums but apparently my language was too harsh and my account is "suspended" while forum trash continue to post worse threads and posts on there. K I'm done
TLDR: Fuck arena. Trash ass game mode where every loss is devastating and doesn't prove jack shit in a BO1 format with no fuckin sideboard, and an unequal opportunity of drafting cards between 2 opponents
edit: oh hey I just queue'd against a druid who's turn 2 play was innervate chillwind yeti. OH look I had no answers and lost to that bullshit. How the fuck do I get queue'd up with ass fuck pieces of shit opponents like this?

I got 4 rares in my draft.
Just played a guy with (at least)
2 Pyros 4 Fireballs Ysera 2 flamestrikes Ice Block
FML

I wouldn't call "struggle just to get 7 wins" when that's statistically reached by only around 10% of the arena runs. ôo

Weapons are utter Bullshit.
I just played an Arena against a Warrior who went:
Fiery War Axe Coin Weaponsmith Some other stuff Weaponsmith Fiery War axe.
I had one ooze that got rid of the first axe. How are you supposed to play against something like that? Every 2-3 health minion might as well read "deal 3 damage to enemy hero". It is completely impossible to ever get anything on the map against that, because those cards are just so absurdly effective. 2 for 1, 3 for 1, np if you got weapons!
If you got less oozes then the enemy got weapons, you lose.

FML There's no need for flame strikes... Secrets and 1 pyro + firebals are just more than enough to kill like what ? 99% of rogues ? Fuk that bs seriously...

Dying to Pyro + hero power is probably the most annoying way to die. I wish they'd just up pyro cost to 9, it wouldn't hurt I think.

Are there actually any good mages secrets in arena?

I was really suprised to see that they didn't increase the mana cost to 10 like they did with Mind Control. Pyro seems more unfun to me then Mind Control, atleast with the latter card you can just deal with the creature like you would any other minion. Can't deal with spells though outside of other mages.

counter spell, best mage secret imho. super easy to place vs certain classes and can bring great value. incenerate is ok too but everybody expects that

Lost to a druid in arena that drew 4 swipes in his first 14 cards. Unbelievable.
|
This deck in arena for me went 5-3. I am so disappointed and frustrated that the 3 losses I got were to scrubby ass players playing classes I almost never encounter. 2 warriors who both CONVENIENTLY have cleave on turn 2 to kill my imps or worgen, while I still almost beat the 2nd warrior his lame ass luck prevailed with and hit the 33% lottery by sylvanas mind controlling my ragnaros to get EXACT LETHAL ON ME. Finally get queue'd up with a druid who CONVENIENTLY has 3 swipes to consistently wipe my imps again... like wtf is this bullshit I get queue'd up against these people my god...
