This is the part that really grinds my gears.
2 major complaints.
Deck modification. Blizzard doesn't want it to happen, why are we able to do it here? The whole point of the 3 deck system is to bring some sense of strategy to the format. When someone can just go in a load up there deck to completely counter someone without a limitation on the number of "sideboard" cards it means they can completely change there deck. This makes game 1 way more important than the other games. Until you can someone impose a limit on the number of sideboard cards you should stick to the 3 deck limit and lock players to their deck choices.
The MLG website. The thing was honestly the one thing holding this back from being a decent tournament. Having to wait over an hour for my 1st round opponent to submit a loss and then almost getting penalized for it is honestly the worst thing in the world. GG spaJJ though, he used the "sidedeck" system to his advantage and got the games.

The OTK hunter deck is getting increasingly fucking retarded. I just specifically built a counter deck to beat it for the MLG tournament, and this is what happens on turn 7: opponent has no weapon (I destroyed it the turn before), is about to die, I have a taunt creature (I managed to still have one alive after losing 4 to removal before hand), and he has not a single creature on the field. Despite this, in one turn, he plays enough bullshit to kill my taunt creature, do 20 damage beyond that, and instantly win the game.
I can't wait until this cheesy shit gets nerfed. It's "win by turn 7-8 or lose" unless the opponent just happens to not draw the cards they need, which is completely out of your control. This is the most dominant archetype in constructed and it's not fun to play against at all.
I don't care about the balance as much as the part where playing one-turn kill in a CCG is boring and frustrating beyond belief.
No combination of cards for 7 mana should allow you to kill a taunt creature and do 20 damage after that.
I feel better now. I would be surprised if Blizz doesn't tweak Unleash Hunters in the next patch. As it is now, it's just something you have to play around. I agree it's extremely cheesy but there's cheese in just about every game and it pops up at every tournament. That said, what is this about the MLG tournament that allows players to change their decks in the middle of the tournament. That's just mindboggling that you can go into a head's up and edit your deck once you know what you're playing again.
I like that you can modify your decks mid-round - constructed with pre-defined decklists has quite a low skill cap - you can just copy-paste a standard deck, and from there, the 'optimal' way to play is usually pretty straight-forward. That said, both players should be able to pick any deck, not just one.
I think the only way you can differentiate players by skill in constructed is going to be via adjusting decks on the fly, which is the only thing about constructed you can't copy from another player wholesale.
|
Pre- Defined Decklists is the only way to stop cheating right now. That and the fact that there is no limitation on the number of cards you can change out means that you can be locked in after winning game 2 and not be allowed to change your deck. But your opponent who won game 1 can? How is that fair? How does that not make game 1 infinitely more important than game 2?
I agree that I would like to have cards be changed out between games, but not 100% change a deck. The ability to completely change 30 cards with any of the 300 in the game removes all semblance of strategy.

Had a 7-2 arena run, game against mage as a priest. Both are running low on cards when my opponent plays Archmage Antonidas, and I've got a mind control and a bunch of cheap spells in my hand :p The moment my turn comes I pop out my Mind Control, and she has a counter secret... My only Mind Control of that deck
She played the spell right after the Archmage but I somehow didn't register it at all. In the very same game I had already avoided one counter trap by wasting something before the actual spell I wanted to cast. But the moment I had the keys to victory in my hand I proceed to be a total moron

Up 5-0 with druid, end the run 6-3 losing to 3 mages... how depressing.

how do people get 30k gold in this game? i have a hard time breaking even in arena, i can't imagine making mentionable profit.

As a person on my second day of hearthstone, how the fuck are you supposed to beat a priest.

the only thing that beats priest consistently afaik is 1shot hunter

What?
Mage can beat Priest. So can aggro Paladin.
1TK Hunter is cheese. It can technically beat anything with the right draw. zz

Well..... This happened just a moment ago:
A Priest casted 2 Thoughtsteals against my hunter deck. 2 turns later he played 3 of my beasts and then casted Unleash the Hounds and killed me. I was gonna kill him after he ended his turn... Wow....
That is the most dramatic randomness BS I've ever seen in the game.

So when you play Holy Nova when you have Auchenai Soulpriest (turn heal to damage) on the board, the +2 heal becomes damage 2 to your creatures as well. Lost an arena game because of that

Yeah it felt so good finally beating a priest in arena as mage even though he managed to draft 3 mind controls -___-.

UGHHHHH Both of us are basically topdecking (1-2 cards each) Hunter summons Onyxia to an empty board (+6 whelps or some shit like that). Gets me down to like 12 HP. I topdeck Mind Control. I'm like FUCK YES I WIN. No, Hunter has yet another fucking Hunter's Mark. On top of something like 4 fucking deadly shots which ensured I never had anything on the board, ever.
Somehow a fucking Hunter without any beasts fucked me harder than any Beast draw I've ever seen in Arena.

Playing arena.
Playing as Warrior vs Priest, he has 8 health left to my 28.
My minions on the board alone can kill him.
He uses all his mana, but it's evident that I will win as soon as he passes the turn over to me.
"You were disconnected from the battle.net service."
I immediately check my internet connection and everything looks fine.

dafuq Yup... happens to me quite a bit. Only in arena though, but it's very frustrating! Sometimes I don't even d/c from hearthstone, it'll just kick me out to the main menu. Enjoy the free loss!!
