aaaaaaand the PCGamer 350 key giveaway was a complete disaster. Bots (or possibly just 1 bot) Nefarious people grabbed all the keys before the button was available for users to grab. More info found here
http://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/1mbe5w/bots_got_all_the_pcgamer_keys_before_the_button/
Throwaway because I will be hunted for this post. Yes they were taken by people. As soon as they updated their module http://betakeys.pcgamer.com/betakeys/6dkpftg7a9/ you could start dispensing codes. This was 3 minutes before it was time to even begin. I am not saying what vulnerability lets you do this, but it involved breaking into the 403'd areas of the server. If they don't fix this it'll just happen again. I didn't take 350 keys but I did take more than one. Someone else probably was more nefarious about it. Don't downvote me because you hate me, just letting people know what happened. EDIT: I got 3 keys for my friends, not for profit. I also e-mailed pc-gamer about the vulnerability. Up to them if they fix it.

Somehow this made me notice that there have been no TL giveaways, considering how much traffic the site gets from stuff about blizzard's games that's a bit weird. Admittedly, the site is obviously more focussed on the korprulu sector than azeroth, but then again TL even had dota2 keys when they were rare (if I remember correctly).

well you could probably say the same thing about WoW related stuff/betas as well. TL kind of ignores all Warcraft related stuff, and hearthstone is a "casual" game and not hardcore competitive games like the 2 they follow. If they had covered Hearthstone maybe they would have gotten keys for a giveaway but they haven't.

Will sell 5k posts for 1 key.
This betakey distribution has to be the most ridiculous beta i have ever seen/imagined. Seriously blizzard. Hate that this is the only one 'casual' card game out there that i am interested in (i am still a sucker for the warcraft lore as well).

I do wish Blizzard would make it easier for existing Blizzard customers to get keys.

Maybe it's a scheme of blizzard. I just can't come up with an explanation for how it would help them in any way.

well if your account is full of blizzard games you're more likely to purchase their next one than the guy who has none and is drawn in because they got invited to beta. but yeah I don't think that's how they do it. ever since Blizzard blew up from WoW it's just been hard to get into any of their betas

I forgot to opt in and badgered a dreamhack friend of mine who asked Blizzard. Didn't take long at all so I feel very fortunate

You'd think the fans that spent the time and money on their other games would get keys. But no, 50viewer streamers get keys.
Got so pissed after not getting one that I'm refusing to read/post about it [and unsubbing from the subreddit etc.(except this whine post)] . It's not that I really care about getting into a closed beta that's going to be wiped, I just feel... *snubbed*. It feels like something I should be entitled to if I want, after my dedicated patronage to this company.
My Battle.net account has:
3x WoW Vanilla (one dated from LAUNCH) 2x WoW BC CE 1x WoW WotLK CE 2x WoW WotLK 1x WoW Cataclysm 1x WoW MoP WC3+FT SC2 CE SC2: HotS CE D3 CE
There's pretty much no other way I can contribute to the company more than I have over 7 years. The numerous realm 1st achievements, world-class rankings in Arena, PvP guides, (admittedly medioce) SC2 ranks, barcraft and aptcraft support, all demonstrate contribution to growing the Blizzard community and excitement. But I never hopped on Twitch to stream because my career has taken priority in the last 2.5 years, so some obscure children are more valuable?
Just seems like "hey loyal customers, here's a reward for your years of fanboying and thousands of dollars" would have been a good decision. Who knows, maybe I'll get into Titan for it.

Got my key through the facebook giveaway, sent another message 15 minutes after they had closed messaging and I got a key. Don't have HoTS or D3 and haven't played WoW since TBC but I've already spent plenty money on packs.

I shut down my wow account and they sent me a beta key the next day. Its not irony but I think its getting pretty close.

I feel your pain, my account looks very similar (in games) toy yours. I have lots of friends who hadn't registered a single Blizzard product get into multiple tests from the opt-in while I got nothing for multiple betas.
However, I don't think there has been one occasion where Blizzard has rewarded loyalty so I didn't get my hopes up too high.

What makes you guys think that the keys are going to non-customers? There are millions upon millions of people with Battle.net accounts that have games attached that they paid for. Just WoW had 12 million active users a couple years ago. That's not including everyone who bought their other games and people who bought WoW but canceled the subscription.
Fact of the matter is, no matter what "fair" system you come up with, you'll still only rarely get a key from the random drawing.

The numerous stories about this thread with that exact topic in this thread, I suppose. We all know that there's probably no system behind it, relax man.

To be able to participate in Beta you have to manually check the box in Beta settings, what do you think how much of those "millions" even know what Beta settings are and did that for Hearthstone?

Thats abit naive, im sure theres plenty enough that know about the beta opt-ins.
And this game has enough hype already, just the blizzard support page got like 50k likes over the course of a week when they ran key giveaways.
