Well DotA 2 keys were also pretty expensive once upon a time. I don't know the specifics because I got in on the key trading pretty late, but I know they were upwards of $50/60. Anyway yeah, this is pretty ridiculous considering the game itself is a massive money sink as well. ![]()

I am pretty anxious to play this game too, so I decided to look into other CCGs meanwhile. Having recently bought a Nexus 7 helps ![]() Shadow Era is very similar to WoW TCG (which means it's as close to real Hearthstone as it gets). It's pretty fun, but the UI is pretty bad, especially if you compare it to HS. You get even less for free than in HS (no dailies) but packs are cheaper than in HS ($1 for 15 card booster or 40 card starter deck). I bought $5 worth of cards so far, but will probably jump to Hearthstone the minute I get a beta key. You hear, Blizzard? I am already spending money in another online CCG! Act now! I'm CRAAAAAZY! Edit: heh, it looks like there is a separate thread for Shadow Era http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=313714

Also people in chat telling players what kind of decks other people have seemed shitty.

Sidedecking is ok, if they are chosen before the tournament and there is a limit (like 8 cards for sidedeck plus 30 for the main deck), otherwise is just silly.

Tell me if I'm wrong but I guess the difference would be that Minecraft lived off their beta sells while blizzard doesn't need money immediately and are hoping for a big release creating momentum on the number of people playing/talking about the game to maximize the hype around it and increase the chance of people buying cards while the hype is going strong.

The problem with the card is how screwy the coin is currently. Blizzard is going to have to adjust how the coin works which should indirectly nerf the card.

It's a slight nerf to rogue, which is a little bit too strong in arena IMO. Constructed is a different story though, but that wasn't balanced to begin with I think

Side bars are pretty standard and I expect they will have them. I think it is just a matter of finding the correct number of cards, which requires a pretty established meta game. It tough to do in beta or at least until all the basic cards are in.

What do u guys think about specializing the heroes, like with talents in wow (fire mage, fury war etc) and have specific cards designed for them?

That will probably come with time, they'll add cards. There already is a Shadow Priest card.

There will probably be already 11 classes as is (adding DK and Monk), if you put talent trees there will be 33 different options, should be crazy to balance all that. Unless you mean really minor changes with each specialization, like 1 or 2 extra cards or something, then it might be fine. But there is certainly room to do some cool stuff and add complexity to the game if that's what Blizzard wants.

But some extra like the mentioned shadow priest would be totally great i think.

You already specialize by choosing the cards in your deck and if you take 2 copies of cards you choose, you only choose 15cards between neutral and your class in the end and you need to have a decent mana curve to not be too weak in a particular time frame. That's already enough restrictions when constructing a deck. Need to consider that it would be a nightmare to balance. Right now is fine they can adjust existing cards or add sets of card to each classes and let players be creative with their class without another restriction. Edit: Shadow priest already exist in some form in the priest collection and it has potential, that's typically the type of deck that will emerge in constructed once the playerbase is huge and a tons of deck composition are being tested by everyone.

We can already see 4-5 "specs" for each class, some of them shared across classes, but still unique to the way each class plays (murlocs for example). I would hate to have to pick YET another specification beyond the class, cards, and how many. It just seems to be an artificial differentiation IMO.
