I only find arena fun, but as I've been going 0-3 three times in a row now, I don't wanna grind 150 gold just to get 10 minutes of playtime in the arena. I also follow guides with what decks to chose, but I get really "unlucky" with drawing cards, and I don't really trust that it's random anymore, but more based on Blizzard making money, because I never seem that unlucky in drawing cards when I play normal mode. Some simple advice. Don't follow guides as a you must pick thing look at them as more of suggestions. Craft a deck that fits your style of play and what your deck needs at the time. Yes things like Tazdingo and Yeti are strong but grabbing even a second one is kinda bad if there is something else in the draft that would help your deck more. Half the arena battle is knowing you can deal with everything and you dont have just "strong" cards I think the decks I make are good enough. Not pro level at all, but good enough. The problem with the 3 last rounds in arena is that I've gotten 4+ mana cards in the beginning, traded all of them, and still got 4+ cards(or at least 90+% of them). I've had several rounds where I've had 30 hp and my opponent less than 5, then he draws a "deal 4 damage to all enemy minions"-kind of card and kills all my minions, and all the cards I get after that are only buffs for minions, and no minions, to such an extent that he is able to kill me. I've played Magic and Android: Netrunner, but it's VERY rare to be that unlucky with your cards, so I find it curious that I could be this unlucky in 9 games in a row.
Here are a couple pieces of advice based on your description.
Curving out having good tempo is especially important in hearthstone. I would ditch the pick guides. Once you figure out which cards are straight unplayable and avoid those, focus on having a good low curve rather than individual card choices.
Make sure you have enough minions. In magic, it's pretty common to separate your creatures and spells when building a limited deck and make sure that you have enough creatures and that they form a good curve by themselves. It really sounds like the pick guides are killing you.
The situation with getting your board wiped is a pretty classic case of over extending. If you are crushing your opponent don't commit more to the board, especially when effects like flamestrike are at common. Also, make sure that you play to your outs, when winning or losing. Always be thinking what card will make me win/ lose the game and try to play as if you will see that card eventually.
Finally, one of the most important things is understanding and accepting how your decisions (in drafting and playing) impacted the game. As you get better, you will find that you all of a sudden aren't as "unlucky."

First 9 arena! Deck basically looked like someone giving the finger on 4, but I got somewhat lucky with draws.

I'm just gonna throw this out there. Golden Cruel Taskmaster is definitely one of the coolest looking cards. Wow.

after playing for countless hours, I think I hate this game. Priest are fucking retarded and I'm not sure I can handle the inherent RNG of card games. O well.

This sounded like me yesterday haha... I'm surprised I didn't get a heart attack with the amount of salt flowing through my veins.

Today I came up with a sick money farming Warrior deck :D winning around 80% matches at m3, in less than 10mins. Pretty happy with myself eheh and with all the OTK hunters dead heads I carry around my belt ^^
Warrior level going from 19 to 35 in a 4-5 hours :3

Argh I think my heart can't take the RNG salt in these games. Same reason I can't play poker for too long.

I have 0 respect for how most people play mage or priest, it's like the most brain dead mindless way you can play. It's excruciatingly frustrating.

Sounds like you just don't like control.
I love control decks in every TCG.

Agreed, it's pretty funny seeing how many people are new to CCG/TCG' coming in that are complaining that the Mage/Priest style of play is "brain dead" which mirrors most if not all of the new crowd to magic who complain that control decks are just as "brain dead" ignoring the fact that it is usually one of the heaviest decision making style of deck you can play, or they don't bother to tune their deck at all to deal with it.

Hearthstone isn't near the complexity of Magic (duh)so please don't act like mage or priest control decks are analogous to control in other TCGs. Mage/Priest control decks are about as simple as you can play this game. Honestly, the game isn't that deep yet, it's extremely straightforward. It's a good TCG with a lot of potential but let's not get carried away. There are definitely tiers among the classes, which is all but inevitable in any game when you're trying to balance multiple heroes or races, but Priest and Mage are quite clearly the most easily accessible and mind numbingly simple in this current iteration.

HS has been fun so far. I might even consider start rolling out the money for some new cards. And yes, Mage/Priest is nowhere near difficult to execute in this game. Hearthstone has a low skill cap and isn't hard to master, unlike MTG.

I think the reason I'll always love MTG is because I can counter instead of just letting things happen. But I'll play this when I have time in between life and other tabletops.

Either I'm really good at this game, or the rating system seems messed up. I'm still putzing around in Play mode leveling all the heroes to 10, and I'm already in Masters.
|
I am not convinced it has a standard mmr/elo curve for the rankings like sc2 or something. It has pretty good matchmaking but I dunno if everyone hits masters eventually, or what percent. Because I allso hit masters while leveling heroes, and got to masters3 easily with a basic priest deck and have no previous tcg experience. And Im not good. There seems to be a HUGE gap between entry to 3-star masters and the very top.
