JeeJee Canada5652 Posts May 16 2009 16:36 GMT #30 100 for professional typist rofl what does that make all the 150+ fellows here? im pretty sure professional typists type at around 150 100 is something you type if you use computers often and for a long time. if you actually take classes and practice typing specifically, you can achieve way faster times.. i don't even know any "proper" way to type, yet i still type easily in the 100-150 range

Also, I'm sure there's a lot of people here retaking the same test twice, which means they're memorizing the words instead of just typing what they see. Last, professional typists are typing for hours, because it's their job, which means they're not going to be typing their very quickest constantly. It's also possible the typist is typing up really awkward notes and crap from legal or scientific notes, which means the words are not as familiar and therefore not as easy to type.

Depending on the test, I range from that (as a high), and about 70 wpm (as a low). The astronaut test was really hard for me, because of the ridiculous amount of punctuation (and oddly used punctuation. I've never seen people space the double-dash thing before, and that threw me off every time). I type very improperly though. My left hand hits the "y" button, for instance, which I know is not the way I am supposed to type. And I use the first two fingers on my right hand almost exclusively, except for my pinky finger hitting the shift/enter key, and my ring finger hitting backspace and the occasional semi-colon or slash mark.
