As the title suggests, looking for chillout music with female vocals - looked through some older chillout music threads but they didn't really offer what I was looking for. I don't really have a definition of chillout music, something that makes you feel chill i guess, suitable for a nice long drive in the rain or getting high or whatever. Especially love those where the vocals are sorta ethereal and achingly beautiful. Wow, this is hard to describe. Just to share my favourite songs of these kind are:
The Cranberries (anything off of No Need to Argue is good) Mirah Rilo Kiley Laura Veirs, try "Don't Lose Yourself" Maria Taylor is good, try "Xanax" If you like Massive Attack, you absolutely must listen to Portishead Stars (has male vocals too) M83 (has male vocals too, but seems to be in line with your music tastes) Imogen Heap (exactly what you are looking for IMO) Frou Frou (Imogen Heap's side project) Hush Sound (start with "Echo" and "The Artist") Grouper if you like experimental shit, try "Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping"
Edit: ok, so this is more a list of good bands with female leads than "chill out music" per se, but each of these artists does have quieter tracks.
only one I can think of right now is Morcheeba; I have the album Big Calm which definitely fits its mood. the title track is pretty sweet: clicky (youtube).
