damn, that is a slick looking desktop, especially with all that system data and such on the right side. Was it easy to set up? I've been considering installing Ubuntu alongside Vista when I get my new laptop. What app did you use exactly for the right side?

http://conky.sourceforge.net/ http://www.howtoforge.com/conky_system_monitor_on_ubuntu704 and indeed it is really easy. ~5mins. had to comment out "font arial" from ~/.conkyrc cuz somehow it didnt like it. this last link includes the config necessary to place it on your desktop update: err.. to the comment about python a few posts up: i dont know any python at all, worked for me. config file is simple to understand and generally, you dont even have to mess with it at all. update1: this helps too: http://suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=24876

You guys should know that saving shit to the desktop might corrupt your user profile and thus make windows xp slow as fuck. You probably have this if it takes 5+ minutes for your computer to shut down.

Hooray! another openSUSE user. Btw, Conky is really easy. I just begged TKWL for his script and read the manpage. It took me less than 3 hours to change his script for my system.

Intrust with binary you should give linux another try. the newest version are incredible. With openSUSE i did no config management at all, i didn't need to find drivers for my hardware. All the stuff i need to download have a installscript like in windows. its great!

I also have the famous cube: ![]() explain: Linux desktop has a number of workspaces - usually set to 4 but you can pick yourself - and a fancy 3d program makes a cube with one desktop on each side. I can for example put a movie on one side, my browser on another, photoshop on the 3rd and the spin the cube to select another desktop. It's mainly for show but I find it nice when doing useful work. A "workspace" is the same as your screen in windows. Must be pretty demanding? Is it possible to dual boot? I'd like to try it
