Nothing on Monitor two right now, but usually it's got iTunes and other useful tidbits. Unfortunately the second monitor it a real piece of garbage and it simply can't compare to my MacBook's monitor so the colors are always out of whack. Oh well.

simple. you take a camera with manual exposure and set it to +1 minute (of course not exactly, just to get the idea), hook it on a tripod and take your shot.

I've read it somewhere that they leave the shutter open for a long time. Like 10s. Ah it's here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shutter_speed
|
10s seems more accurate than my guess ^_^

Yeah, it's long shutter speed. As you can see, white = headlights, red = backlights.
So you just leave the shutter open for many seconds and that will happen
And my desktop:

Firstly I'd really like to put emphasis on the importance of thumbnailing. The thread becomes incredibly frustrating when you have to wait for all the pics to load before anything shows, simply because a few people were too selfish to thumbnail. So let's think about other people and make this a quick-loading and fun thread, as I've always liked the desktop threads, except when it gets slowed down by non thumbnailers.
Anyway, my desktop:

Small fonts on monitors close to people casuses a near sidedness i guess 19" because of the picture was 1200 on the bert that is usually the native resolution of something about 19 inches

If everyone uses jpg (instead of bmp or w/e, fuck paint )it really doesnt take that long to load. Unless you're still on 56k.

It's Ubuntu linux. Free open source alternative to windows, and a lot better imho.
I also have the famous cube:
explain: Linux desktop has a number of workspaces - usually set to 4 but you can pick yourself - and a fancy 3d program makes a cube with one desktop on each side. I can for example put a movie on one side, my browser on another, photoshop on the 3rd and the spin the cube to select another desktop. It's mainly for show but I find it nice when doing useful work.
A "workspace" is the same as your screen in windows.

damn, that is a slick looking desktop, especially with all that system data and such on the right side. Was it easy to set up? I've been considering installing Ubuntu alongside Vista when I get my new laptop.
What app did you use exactly for the right side?

That would be conky. It's easy to install and configure, usually you just steal someone else's and modify it

Well that is if they can read and know a bit of python.

Haha well python was made to be easy mostly simple things can be done and all complex things can just be copyed from someone else and modified all programing is the same the only difference is how it looks and python was the last common coding i know of for it you can set it up without knowing python but to reallllly set it up i think ubuntu takes most languages i think i gave up on linux like 4 years ago when Perl, Ruby, Python where mostly the only languages beides C# and mono with little support for java was around. haha so i stick to my microsoft.
also alot changes in 4 years i believe what every half year a new verson comes out of linux basied systems mostly
my pictular problem with it was back then most drivers had to go though an encoder to go from binary to something else becuase nvidia ati ect didnt support linux although i think they give drivers out now of days taylored to the linux kernal
ture coding goes in the GCC and comes out gold! or kills something...
Intrust with binary

Hooray! another openSUSE user.
Btw, Conky is really easy. I just begged TKWL for his script and read the manpage. It took me less than 3 hours to change his script for my system.

you should give linux another try. the newest version are incredible. With openSUSE i did no config management at all, i didn't need to find drivers for my hardware. All the stuff i need to download have a installscript like in windows. its great!

Must be pretty demanding? Is it possible to dual boot? I'd like to try it
|
compiz isn't demanding at all. i run it perfect on my T42 thinkpad with 1 G ram and ati 7200 GPU
|
If you run windows and have a nvidia card, you can use nView Desktop Manager to setup multiple desktops. It won't be customizable like linux but it get the job done, it also as a feature to make windows "alway on top" or transparent that is very useful when editing images.

out of curiosity how are you feeling the ati+linux thing? it's a bit annoying for my ati card as to get compiz working i had to install xgl which is a joke so i prompty uninstalled it, got the latest fglrx drivers which are for some reason not defaulted to upgrade so i had to manually get & compile source code =/ now i use aiglx, which is a bit better but still annoying
;( it's the one thing that bugs me about my gutsy..

Edit: while we're talking about ubuntu anyway, has anyone tried to install mouse drivers? will they even work? I hate the way my mouse feels under ubuntu. T.T

I suggest openSUSE 10.3, i've installed and used fedora, ubuntu and openSUSE and i can vouch that the most recent openSUSE is the easiest distro to setup and use.
i've done no additional setup at all! it's all done and taken care of. Ubuntu is great but i still had to set up drivers for ati and compiz which can be a pain.
