Hey guys - I just updated the site with a small feature that allows you to see your own post history ^^
To access it, go to My TL.net then to My Posts in the sub-menu (there's also some quick links at the top left of each page now too). Posts are listed in chronological order starting with the most recent, and you can view them by thread link or by post-view. If you have any suggestions for the feature itself, direct those to the Feedback forum.
Now just for fun - quote the very first post you ever made on TL, and post it in this thread. The reason you finally created an account, a post of such brilliance and magnitude, that you had to go through the whole signup process just to let the world know about. (To find your first post: go to the My Posts section, click on the last page, scroll to the bottom, and click the direct link to your first post.)
I'll go first. I had been lurking on TL for quite awhile, until finally registering and posting this winner ^~

I was wondering about a P/T vs Z/? Strat where the P goes DT and the Terran goes M&M and researches blinding grenades for his medics. Soi thought of this as the 2on2 version of dt/sair with sairs beeing replaced by medics (: The advantage is, medics just need one hit (with BIG range) to "kill" the overlords sight and are not in big danger while doing so. Second advantage is that everyone notices a "missing" or "killed" overlord, but I'm sure not everyone will notice a blind one (:
Problems:
- Z ally being T with comsat, but at this point he might have 1-2 scans you could dodge with the DTs. - Spores, but in this MU the Z will not likely have a spore yet and if, it will be in his main an not choke, so the rines (you bring along with the medics) can kill it.

1) What is your favourite 4 player map(s)? And why? (if anything specific)
Nostalgia - The gasless natural expansion creates many situations that don't happen in many games. I like the fact that there are only 12 bases on the entire map (instead of 14), because it seems to create more action. All bases / expansions being nearly equidistance from the centre also creates a lot of action. I like it because it seems to always play as a macro map. Blade Storm - I think I mostly like this because it plays as a macro map as well. I always seem to have fun games on this map, but they're not really of a high skill level; it just turns into expand and macro.
2) What is your least favourite 4 player map(s)? And why? (if anything specific)
Luna - Why is 11 so impossible to fast expand at for ZvT but you can do it comfortable at 7 or 2? It's silly. Dhalia - Impossible to get your fast expansion going with some weird 3 Hatch by 18/18 build and 6 Sunks. Chow Chow - Tankable / Bunkerable expansions. Gaema - The run around of the expansion forces Z to play an offbalanced style. ?? - That winter map where you have 3 bases on your "island" and the entire fucking middle is open, save two "land islands" in the middle. Worst. Map. Ever. Enter The Dragon - Impossible ZvT. Forces weird style. Hard to get a 4th expansion.
3) Do you prefer maps that have gas at their naturals, or maps that do not? Which one(s) are you referring to?
Gasless naturals right now, only beacuse it seems to be against the norm. Once gasless naturals are all the rage, I'd prefer gassed naturals. Keep in mind this will never happen because everyone will always play Lost Temple.
4) What do you dislike about Gamea Gowon? (if anything)
The run-around potential on the higher ground of Z:T. I try to get through the early game with as little resources spent on defense, and it seems my options are: a) 3 Hatch before gas and build ~4-5 Sunkens on the low ground and 2-3 on the high ground. b) Get a lot of Zerglings and try to flank the Terran army as he moves up the ramp.
If a map is going to force me to 3 Hatch to exp, that's fine. But there shouldn't be two points of defence, that's just silly. Gaema is one of my most hated maps, I find it nearly unplayable ZvT (with my style of play, which I stubbornly don't change on this map)
5) What do you dislike about Namja Iyagi? (if anything)
I find this map hard ZvT as well. There are (sort of) two points of defence again, the main ramp and the back ramp. T can so easily get bunkers going up top of your ramp and get a Tank beating down on your expansion drones. If you go anything but Muta you lose to quick Tank drop on that little island behind you. I hate going Muta.
6) What do you dislike about Legacy of Char? (if anything)
It's silly? The fact that you can 3-4 hatch before pool usually in ZvP, get 3 bases and pump units. The fact that your minerals are tankable from below in TvP (in the old version). I also hate that you have one fairly small exit to your side of the map. They tried to make those little run around areas above and below but those don't do anything.
7) What do you dislike about Dahlia of Jungle? (if anything)
No Zerg expansion. It's impossible to fast expand to your gas with a strange 3 Hatch build. Very awkward. The fact that if your playing 3 v 12 (or similar locations) Terran can tank your expansion with impunity.
8) What do you prefer, 2 way mirrored maps (Guillotine, Legacy of Char, Namja Iyagi), or 4 way mirrored maps (Nostalgia, Gaema Gowon, Jim Raynors Memory)?
Doesn't matter if the map is well done.
9) Do maps that have significant positional differences bother you? (Blade Storm, Lost Temple, Luna) If so, which ones and why?
Yes, Luna specifically. If you get 11 you can't fast expand comfortably? But if you get 3 you can? What the hell is that?
10) Do you prefer maps that have expansions that are 'no mans land' (such as the island expo's on Lost Temple, or the side expo's on Martian Cross), or maps that have only player-favoured expansions (maps that have only naturals and 2nd naturals, like gamea gowon, or nostalgia)?
Nostalgia style. I think 12 bases (or 6 or 9) provides more action than 14 (8 or 11).
On January 11 2005 17:36 Myrmidon wrote: My zvz is pretty weak because of my bad control and intuition, but I do know this:
When you have around 9-12 muts vs. enemy muts, you DO NOT want to focus fire with the entire group. 12 (your group of 12) x 9 damage (one volley) = 108. Mutalisks have 120 HP. This means it will take two volleys from the entire group to kill a mutalisk (108 x 2 = 216 > 120). That's almost 100 wasted damage. Instead, if you hotkey 7-8 mutalisks to a group, then two volleys from each mutalisk will do a total of 126//144 damage, which means you don't waste much of your attacking potential. Send your extra muts slightly in front to draw fire so the killgroup doesn't take casualties, and have the extras just hit random targets or something. Keep in mind that if your group of 7-8 gets reduced to 6 or less, you'll want to just attack-move or something, as then it'll take 3 volleys instead of 2 (or possibly 2 if there's been enough splash damage going around).
Also, beware of too much excessive shift usage, as if they just pull an injured mutalisk back that you're focusing on, then it won't be too pretty for you. Scourge are your friends, but don't make more than you can control effectively. Getting six scourge to clone to one mutalisk each in a battle is great for you, but getting six scourge to all bomb one poor mutalisk means you probably lose the game (I'm talking smaller numbers).

anyway, it turns out that the first move occurs mostly inside the matrix, and that's when it's fun. naturally, the best scenes occur in the matrix (without Neo there, as being God really takes the excitement out of action sequences), i.e. the chase scene in Reloaded and the scenes with merovingian in Revolutions.
i wanted much more in-matrix time in this one... i mean that's what was revolutionary, the physics defying fighting. the ships and giant exosuits with guns were cool but 40-50 minutes of it?? overkill.. real world and xion just aren't as interesting as the mystique of the matrix.

"In my experience, going the hydra way can be a viable build and also really fun. I would usually do a 2 hatch hydra like I would vs Protoss to rush him, but with some variations depending on what my oponent is doing. If the oponent isn't carefull enough he could also lose 1 or 2 overlords which really will put him in a defensive mode. And when you go out with your 8+ hydra (while constantly producing) he wont have mutalisks ready usually. One thing that can kill you is mass speedling, if you see him delaying his lair he's probably going that route and just constantly check what he's producing early on. It is important to know of his activites because you don't want to be caught off guard in a flank. Alot things can go wrong when you go hydra, but the more you play it the more you'll learn from your loss. The average Zerg player isn't ready for a ZvZ where the oponent goes Hydra so that will give you an advantage whereas you usually know how to play vs a mutaling player. So just start playing lots of ZvZ and come back later if you have other problems with a context or a replay.

You can tell which ones are divided simply by looking at the Editor - simply see which ones seem unnatural, and you've got a divided damage unit.
If you look on Staredit, the damage Zealots deal are actually 8.
I still don't understand why people are discussing the value of armor because armor only helps in bits and pieces, not as a game-breaking factor.
Although Hitler was not elected, he obtained chancellorship through legitimate instruments of the Weimar constitution- that is, the appointment by President Hindenburg in the event of the Nazi party polling the highest percentage and their subsequent representation in the Reichstag.
A generation later, the commissioner from Nordrhein-Westfalen, Krekeler, in drawing up the constitution for the Federal Republic opposed the insertion of the sentence: "All state power derives from the people.", successfully, with the single argument that to make popular sovereignty absolute meant that the sovereign people can thereby dispose of the democracy and again impose a dictatorship.
There is the precedent in the sentence in the American constitution:
"Before he enter on the Execution of his office, (the President) shall take the following oath or affirmation: "I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of the President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the constition of the United States."
-That is, the rule of law, order and constitution, if necessary, against the will of a majority to abolish it.
My first post was some comment on news, and I knew it was my first post, so I probably lurked a while before I actually wrote something.

Anyway, Rico sucks, he's craving for attention, also he hacks. Too bad there's a lot of extremely STUPID people at wgtour.com that have their head to much up Rico's arse, so he still gets respect. I wonder why he hasn't immigrated to America, he would be a nice self-proclaimed gosu rival of hovz (newbie lozl)
People actually think he's better than midian. Midian is probably the most underrated zerg player in Europe, if not the most underrated period, even by himself (whenever I tell him to play more tournaments, he says no, because he does not want to or something. Like I already said in those comments at wgtour.com, he just doesn't care about reputation, or image, or howtogetknown-chapter3 (partake in foreign tournaments and winning them). And like some other guy said in WGT comments, he probably has one of the best ZvZ foreign yea, just a few days ago, he beat KT.MGW)HyuK ZvZ, and HyuK was top 10 Gamei zerg with a score of 2400. Not many people are able to beat top Korean zergs, zvz. He also has great macro, too bad his micro kinda sucks :/
English BW community is retarded except for a few people (by looking at those comments).
Oh and btw, ogogo has some of the best macro there is. At least ZvP.
in the strategy forum i brought up an extremely intelligent idea:

Junwi seems to be under-rated to me, I like his style of play.. altho I must admit it might just be because he's usually the underdog vs other big name players.
Over-rated... it's hard to say seeing as how they're all better than I am, or anyone I know for that matter. It's hard to criticize someone who has managed to stand out in the korean SC/BW community.

He qualified for the spot on the USA team fair and square (as far as I know), it doesn't matter what tactics he used to win. Team USA is still relatively new, and so it's too early to tell who needs to be replaced at this point. Give them all more time and then we'll see which players are the weak links.
However, having said all that, I do agree somewhat with Abeja's comment on ilnp's bad manner being a detriment to the team. I think the general opinion of USA gamers' manner is pretty bad already, I think it'd be nice if our "best" could try to dispel that reputation. I'm not suggesting that ilnp start acting chummy with players from other teams (or anyone for that matter), but that maybe he could try to be a bit more professional about it.
If what Abeja said is true (pre-game flaming, leaving games because of starting positions, hack accusations which I guess is true because he repeated it on forum) about ilnp's behavior, then I definitely think he should be asked to change his manner. Of course this only applies if the other players are also behaving themselves, if someone attacks ilnp then they should know what they're asking for. I don't think mutual respect upon national team players is too much to ask.
In short, ilnp's skill should not be questioned, but his manner could be (depends on actual facts). I think both are important for a member of Team USA members.

Yes Boxer did indeed popularized T for his innovative micro but OOv has made his stand as the macro king. These differences make the match-ups, not particularly the players themselves, all the more interesting.

Burrowed Lurker does not take direct tank damage. Burrowed Lurkers around the targeted burrowed Lurker take splash damage. Burrowed Lurkers not around the target burrowed Lurker take no damage.

Do you mean if the Tank is targeting the Lurker? (There is no other way for the Hydra to take splash.) Tanks may seem like they target multiple units because of their splash damage, but it is only really one. So it would be impossible to miss one target and then hit another.
To answer your question, the Hydra would only take splash, and only then if the "animation" for the tank fire hit it. (I forgot to mention that in my post above. Only units within' the animation take the splash damage.)

Same goes for tvp. And always try doing something for a purpose. If you harass for example ask yourself why u do it. Do you do it to gain time for your tech or do u want to get a better macro while doing it. Just keep this in mind while gaming and do a little training. You will be able to create builds just by yourself then.

Asking lots of questions on forums can help you improve your theory, and just playing will improve your execution.
When watching replays, make sure you note things even as simple as building placement and timing. Every time a player attacks or expands, pause the replay and ask yourself why. It can also help to watch replays with someone who knows the matchup well, so they can answer any questions right on the spot.

Simply, Koreans or Azians are the most smart man in the world now in learning something. because, they are the very patient in every way. And have the very high pride in themself not be crushed easily.
but, i believe The very high top lvl English ppls are the same, industrious and patient. And that is IN THE SAME LINE TO play Starcraft ALSO. The succeeded man in his part can be the Best in the next step he wants. PLZ STOP COMPLAINING! EVERYTHINGS YOU DO NOW HAS THE GREATEST MEANING IN YOUR LIFE. BECAUSE, THAT YOUR THE LAST CHANCE TO MEET THEM.
The winner have the goals in everything he do, not just fighting. Just lost losers or COMPLAINERS SAY THE USELESS THINGS all the time.
STARCRAFT MAKES YOUR BRAIN TO THINK when you play game in every moment, because, that's not the just shooting console game, it's RTS! strategy game. You are the general when you are playing the game. WATCH SlayerS_`BoxeR`, he earn money just doing his the favorite game. and everyday his strategy's are changing, he spend his time to think his new strat & units all the time.
U just calling the system of Korean education is a garbage? NO! It's the very efficient system just to learn language or something to beginner. a high school student in korea can read English paper easily, but, he can't speak the actual english on real life. If his major is English, just the weak point is speaking or writing. THEY CAN READ OR LISTEN PERFECTLY BUT CAN'T SAY FAST. because, The structure of English and Korean is the very different. You saw 'TELETOBI'? 4 dancing aliens are doing the same boring things all the time, but kids like that very much and learn from that program.
But, it cann't be applied in your learning starcraft and korean culture. BECAUSE, YOU ARE THE WESTERNER NOT KOREAN. and you are not serious to play this not like koreans yet.
YOU HAVE TO FIGHT VS YOUR OPPONENT TO LEARN STARCRAFT NOT WATCHING VODS OR READING REPORT. just watching replays makes you the very idiot if you don't think about that. but, you preper fight to think.
So, YOU HAVE TO BE THE ACTOR NOT THE OBSERVER if you wanna be #1.
if you wanna be #1 player in the world, just play game, don't be a korean's wannabe.
don't forget! STARCRAFT IS NOT JUST THE GAME, IT'S LIFE! Everything has the meaning now you meet. BUT, YOU ARE THE WESTERNET NOT PROGAMER, GO AND FIGHT TO YOUR FRIEND AND YOU'LL LEARN BY YOURSELF. because, you are the best player in the world. and you are a English.

So I decided to start a blog. I've been reading on TL.net for about 3 years. I never really wanted an account until a few months ago... but anyways onto the blog.
My first day was great I joined the new ladder a bit late though so I was a bit behind in gear but I was ready to work for it. My first goal was to decide which character to make... there were quite a few options that appealed to me:
Hammer paladin - I had one of these a while ago when I played diablo 2 but I never really liked them.. On the other hand I've heard they're overpowered so it was a viable choice
Blizzard Sorceress - These had always been a favorite of mine and not needing an enigma was a HUGE upside as far as mfing.
Whirlwind Barbarian - Funny animation.
But in the end I had to come up with a choice. I opted for a Blizzard sorceress; first objective: get to level 25 to do baal runs. This was not very hard. I simply had to do a LOT of tristram and 2 tomb runs. now I was all set to go baal. I stayed at normal baal until level 45 then decided it was time to move on.
Nightmare The paladin who killed baal was very nice and rushed me through nightmare so I could do nightmare baals. I stayed there until level 70 then headed off to hell. Where... you guessed it the Same paladin rushed me. However this time amazingly enough he was level 94 O.O
So now I must find items you say? I downloaded a maphack (SORRY I KNOW I'M EVIL): I then proceeded to run 1300 runs of hell mephisto and andariel. (Starcraft hardened my nerves for this) Where I got some VERY good items and finished off my Tal rasha set. I now had 2 accounts of mules full of items. so I decided it was time to sell some items on d2jsp.com
I was offered 500forum gold and was all set to make the trade. I accepted the trade giving the person the item and then they just left! didn't even give me the forum gold
I then wanted to make a new sorceress fireball/blizzard so that I would be unphased by cold immunes. I was xfering my items and when I tried to join the game I get this message
THE GAME DOES NOT EXIST
WEAK so now here I am. a sorceress with no gear. However I do have a hammer paladin who I equipped with what items I had left from mfing. anyways I will make new posts every week to keep you in touch.
For anybody who wishes to contact me in game my account name is GENECIDE

The number of goons give u a good idea what toss is doing (teching 1-3 goons/expanding 2-5 goons/2 standard gating 4-6 goons) -basically there are 3 types of 2 fact builds -all 3 uses up to 2-4 rines -mine + speed research are done at 530 -mine + seige research are done at 540 (lack of money) -u need mininal 2 vults (6 mines planted around CC CORRECTLY),3 turrets (1 at choke pt and 2 at CC) and 1 tank to stop reaver or dt drops -turrets alone won't make the cut; smart toss drop DT at blind spots of ur main.As for reaver, its range is used to pick ur SCVs off with some luck.
1) 1st tank=>6 vults =>2rd tank (players who use it;nada, heaven) get mine + speed attack once mine reasearch is done (timing is 500)
2) vult from fact and tank fact with addon (players who use it;elky, assem, gundam) get mine + seige attack 1 tank,1 vult,2-4 rines (timing is 445)
3) 3 tanks=>3 vults (players who use it;joyo-remember wcg?) attack once have 2nd tank (timing is 500) get mine + speed
I find all 3 work well but all have their own weaknesses
1) -strong vs all teching toss due to speed of vults and plenty of mines to use (mine placement is impt through) -weak vs standard 2 gate goon ob toss or 1 gate goon ob conditional expand
Timing is impt.If u and toss are close spots, attacking straight isn't a good idea so u need to defend first as the drop comes fast (shuttle leaves base at 530 and reaches u at 540). Watch the game breeze vs nada on LT 3 vs 12. The blessing is that mines are wonderful at defending against such early drops and also it gives u the option to attack toss later (even through its delayed).Note that even ur mine+ speed research are done at 530, the drop is more threatening then ur vults; vults alone can't really do much till u have 2 or more but u need ur first 2 this early to defend.
If u and the toss are far, what u do is to use the first 4 vults to attack the toss. Ur 4 vults be done at 530 and will reach the toss main at 600. At the same time, toss will get his reaver done at 530 and reach ur main at 600. This 30 secs is the key to give u time to make 2 more vults and 3 turrets to defend.
2) -generally ok vs all toss builds but sometimes too reactive, esp vs 1 gate goon ob conditional expand. reacts slow at far spots and fast at close spots. -VERY dependent on map location and distance. the main weakness of a mixed but safe build
A good build for all terrans but needs ALOT of recon and some luck to be effective. Far spots are something this reactional build don't like. THAT is the main weakness of a safe and standard build. :hs Sometimes, initiative is more impt. Experience will tell u that. Notice this build has the fastest attack; 445. This means u pressure the toss first, forcing him to defend. The bad thing is that if u are doing this at far spots, u can't get to fully pressure the toss. The toss can afford to do some dancing to delay ur attack to buy time for his reaver or dt too. By the time u reach there, dt/reaver is out to stop u (530) and ur attack is screwed. HovZ thank u so much and i have to agree with u with a slight exception; if the toss is at far spot.
Also, gundam build like this one isn't so successful today anymore coz the terran player often overpressures and forgets his main; leaving it open to drops. Therefore when using this build, don't over devote urself to attack, unless u are sure u can reach the toss main and do enough damage before 530. Calling off the attack and retreating as soon as possible on order to defend and then secure the expo is the right answer. Map distance counts alot in that so if u are playing close LAND (note not AIR) spots, u have a chance.
A good toss can make a 2 goon gate build look like a 1 gate build due to the timing on when the 2rd gate is placed. By the time u find out its abit too late i guess, unless u are at close spots then reacting will be more faster. if u want a closer look, look at the standard 2 gate goon builds and compare it to 1 gate goon builds.
The blessing of this build is that it can react to all toss builds somehow well enough. Its goal is to actually expand as early as possible (perfect for elky ) while using troops to even out the toss if he's ahead OR hitting the toss as much as u can but u can't kill him.
3) -great vs all goon based toss builds -somehow weak vs tech builds
Great vs all goon based toss builds; why? goons < tank+ rines. Simple.
Joyo did win one game vs eros.rage who tried to proxy robo; the main prob is that the the reaver didn't get back in time to defend. If rage didn't proxy reaver, he could have helf off everything joyo threw at him and eventually start to do shuttle tricks at joyo's main.
Not much i can commment on this build; i don't like it so much as i don't find it very flexible. But this build is great for any map that relies the terran to wallin and get tanks fast due to the lack of cliffs. I don't use this build often but i feel this build can't fight reavers and dt well unless u got lucky and fight a toss at close spots and somehow managed to push to his main and do damage at before his dt or reaver is out. The toss still do some dancing....but tanks out range goons and with this many tanks, it might be hard for toss but once reaver or dt is out, its saved!
I hope this will clear something up and open some questions for some logical thinking.

It's fucking stupid, because zerg can do whatever they want early game, and if they fucked up, they can bail themselves out with 5 sunkens or whatever. Cannons take a year and a half to warp in, if toss could warp in cannons in the time it takes zerg to moprh sunkens, the pvz game would be a lot more playable. You wouldn't see tosses getting owned by gay lair tech rushes or cheesy hidden 3 hatch lings nearly as often, which would allow toss to take a few more risks, which would really help make pvz more interesting and less of a beat down.

Back on topic though I think its perfectly moraly justifyable to pirate as long as you still buy what you think is good. Remember, when you copy something nothing is removed anywhere so it cant be compared to theft. Its not possible for someone to lose anything from me creating a copy of something. It is in no way proven that people who pirate buy less. Actualy an investigation in Sweden showed that people who regualrly pirate movies were more interested in movies and actualy went to the cinema twice as offen as usual. If I buy one movie and watch it or if I buy one movie and watch ten... what differance does it make? I gain a lot from it and no one loses anything from it. What I see is that a case the PSU and your mobo is very important most mobo has a 4 pin or 6 pin power supply near the top.
Your PSU has to reach from the bottom to the top of the motherboard. Its why I don't like that case you chose.
All I have to say if you go with that case be careful about the PSU and motherboard you have I had to get rid of my Antec for a Gigabyte 3D Aurora 570 because of the 4 pin power supply wouldn't reach all the way to the top.

On June 20 2008 16:10 doubleupgradeobbies! wrote: hmm i'm a much worse player than you are so take everything i say with a grain of salt.
To add to the macro issue, aside from having your 3rd base really slowly, if you look at your mineral patches at just before 10 minutes(just before he moves out) your main is oversaturated, and your nat is sparsely probed, and your not probing from the nexuses. So not only were you only on 2 bases you weren't really mining off one of them very efficiently, to add to that you would have had few probes when you did take your third, as you stopped probing all but intermittently by then.
But aside from the macro problem, you also didn't take map control for much longer than you needed. While the reaver that didn't really do anything set back your troop count a bit, you idled men in your nat until he came to attack you.
Once i have more than a control group of men in chilling in my nat, i like to move a group out, and just leave a few goons to defend vult runbies.
The group of men serves a number of useful functions. Firstly, they can clear mines, constrict vulture movement, keep track of him moving out (eg map control). It can also be used stall him a bit when he does move out. If you look at his attack at around 10 minutes, you'll note he mined outside your nat! while it didn't really do much harm, you shouldn't be allowing that kind of temerity from the dirty terran . Also you'll note he walked tanks right from his nat to yours. Had you have had some men out in the middle of the map you could have made him seige up a few times and snipe some vults. This gives you more time to even up your unit combinations slightly (you had a bit too many goons and a bit too few zealots) .
You also didn't really make too much of an attempt to flank, while you took out that first attack ok, you moved all your men in a giant ball and lost more men than you needed to. Flanking means that your goons are a bit more resistant to tank splash, your zealots have less trouble getting to the front, and your temps don't die in clumps and can get into storm range easier.
To add to the map control thing, because you chilled in your nat, you didn't really get much of a chance to set up a flank, which is why you want men out in the middle giving you map control.
So basically, you needed better macro, map control, flanks.
I find building a few more obies is good while your still trying to work on pvt, it gives you a better idea of how T moves their troops, and on python the middle is so open, there is really no reason why you wouldn't want to flank their army.
edit: oh also moving the group of men out early means you can clear out those pesky marines he left at expos, and at around 11:45 you pushed that attack too far with just pure goons against his small but well balanced army, don't be afraid to pull back when your unit combo is off, especially when you don't even yield map control when doing it, it was already outside his nat.
Mine was a strat post too. Short and kind of questionable.

9th grade biology, the teacher is droning on about the digestive tract, the stomach, duodenum, cardiac sphincter etc. To my left is a kid named James, a complete dork who always ate chips that smelled so bad they made me want to throw up. As usual I was ignoring him and chilling with Matt, who sat on the other side. We were joking around and laughing about something, and the teacher asked us what was so funny. Before we can say anything James blurts out "they thought you said cardiac stinker" and cracks up. There's this horrible frozen moment where the whole class looks at us like we are the dumbest most immature people in the world and I'm just mortified. "That's not what we were laughing at" sounds weak and I'm pretty sure no one believed me.
That class sucked anyway. I got the highest score in the school on the final but got an F for the course because I didn't believe in homework and the teacher was a dick.
Next year: new school, new country. I always used to lose watches, so when I got a new one I got in the habit of never taking it off. In the computer lab there's this hot chick I wanted to talk to. I'm a pussy, so I needed to manufacture an excuse. I decide I'll ask her what time it is. Of course I have to take off the watch for that to be plausible. I peel it off for the first time in a week or two and suddenly there's this terrible shit smell. Apparently skin doesn't age well without being washed or exposed to the air D: I never spoke to her again.
School trip to Holland: we're taking the overnight ferry across the channel. I've been on them before and I know the toilets in the cabins are scary as hell. They are like an instant vacuum, sucking down anything in the bowl in the blink of an eye. One of the guys goes in to take a leak. When he's done I'm like "check this out" and I engage the vacuum flush. He just looks at me and is like "dude, you looked at my pee". WTF was I doing
RE: ferries and pee - we were hanging around on the deck and there's this fierce wind. One of the other guys in the trip decides he's going to take a piss. He's not dumb enough to pee into the wind of course, he pees with it. But the wind blasting around him created an eddy and the piss is curving back and headed straight at him. Of course he can't just stop. I about died seeing him dance around trying to keep it off his pants and shoes. WTF that trip and seeing pee
Fark now all I can think about is toilets. Track trip to London, I'm in a stall trying to lose a few pounds before the high jump. One of the sprinters gets in the next stall and immediately starts ripping off toilet paper. I'm like "what are you doing with toilet paper already?" He told me it was to keep the water in the bowl from splashing on him when he let one go. The Moar You Know!
Back at the school: there's a new building my senior year. Between classes I head to the John for a #2. I'm sitting there and two girls walk in talking to each other. Oh shit I'm in the wrong room. This would never have happened if I was in for #1 I decide to stay quiet and wait for them to leave, but I guess they see my feet. One of them asks "who's in there?" Is this a girl thing, to ask who's in the stall so they can all say "OMG hi!" or whatever? I say nothing so they ask again. They are pretty insistent. I finally say "I think I'm on the wrong room" and walk out. They are both freshmen and they think it's hilarious. One of them always smiled and said hi whenever she saw me after that.
These are just getting dumber, but this is cathartic. Freshman year in college: the whole floor is gathered in the hall listening to the dorm mother. I've got serious gas (cafeteria food). I wait for her to reach a dramatic pause in whatever uplifting story she's telling and in the dead silence rip a huge one. Jared busts up and everyone thought it was him for the rest of the year. Fun Fact: Napoleon Dynamite was there (well the actor who would one day play him).
Why is it the possibility of recounting embarrassing moments is what finally got me to stop lurking :-/

Here are the matchups for the Spirit "Become a Progamer" Tournament. If the match only goes to two games, the game 3 link merely goes back to a random vod.
The number of foreigners sent to Korea could be as low as one, or as high as five. It depends on how the tournament goes.
Here are some VODs of the top sixteen going up against Korean progamers. If you're not familiar with how some of these foreigners play, check these matches out!
Playing Starcraft well is only one reason why a foreigner would be invited to Korea. Showing a sense of dedication and hard work is important, too. That's why each member of the top 16 was asked to write a little bit about themselves and why they want to be chosen to go to Korea.
Hi, my name is Tyler Wasieleski, I'm 22 years old and I'm from San Antonio, Texas, USA. I Love the game of Starcraft and I'm an avid follower of the e-Sports scene in Korea. I really would like to contribute to the community that has brought me so much entertainment and happiness. My deepest, ultimate goal is to become a StarLeague player and create a surge in e-Sports and the best game in the world, Starcraft. But I realize talking like that is arrogant and such an accomplishment is far in the distance and so I'm mentally prepared for a long stay in Korea. I want to become a progamer because I admire the dedication and professional atmosphere of progaming in Korea and I'd Love to be a part of that. I believe I have a mature and grounded desire to become a progamer - as a 22-year-old in the USA, I have received some higher education and have been out in the real world, but after much time and thought I know for certain that I want to pursue progaming with 100% effort.
I want to become a progame because I want to the the very best Starcraft play that I can be. I want to be the guy raising the bar for mechanics rather than the guy trying to keep up and I want to be the guy creating the new best strategy rather than the guy trying to understand what others have done. I want to push my potential to the max by getting tons of practice against the best in the world rather than practicing a fraction of the time against amateurs. I think back to an interview with Ma Jae-Yoon:
Why did you decide to become a progamer at a relatively young age? Savior: Back in those days I was just like any other student who loved to game during free time. Occasionally I had oppertunities to play against progamers. Of course, I lost most of them but I actually won a couple. That's when I thought, "Wow, if I were given the same amount of practice time as these progamers, I don't think I would ever lose." It was that possibility and the confidence that made me become a progamer.
I can identify very much with this answer and I really hope to have a chance to show my potential.
Something interesting about me is that I was one of the best Red Alert, Red Alert: Aftermath and Dune 2000 players back when I was only 12-14 years old! I stayed on top of the official ladder of those games for many months, getting first multiple times. I woke up early before school and played games to improve my rank and skill and I also played after school, of course. It was funny explaining to my parents the letters of congratulations that I received from Westwood (the games' creators) and the prizes I received in the mail. Even though I've taken a long break from being one of the best in the world at a video game (I preferred competing in sports throughout high school and college), I am ready to do it again!
My name is Jian Carlos Joan Morayra Alejo, I am 16 yrs old, I was born in Lima-Peru, and everyone knows me as Fenix.
I started playing starcraft at the age of 9, since then, my goal has been to represent my country as best as posible, and today I reached hat goal and have had many opportinities to represent my country in international tournaments.
I traveled as champion of WCGPERU2007, to USA, Seattle, also represented the whole of Latin america in the tournament known as IEST-Ievnovo 2007 in China-Beijing and two months ago I won the WCG2008 Pan American Championship, taking the first place in Monterrey-Mexico, as of for Online tournaments, at the age of 11 I won my first 1500$ in the Sandlot Blizzard tournament, I have won over 30 online tournaments, my last tournament being the scforall tournament/league, finishing in 1st place. For years now im a proud representant of my country.
I have always been in the top notch teams such as iG.(at its prime) xLo. LRM) and now Excello. I am also a member of the korean team “By.” On west, and go by the name of By.Fenix.
My biggest goal and dream, is to become a progamer, since I admire the great dedication, skill and self-sacrifice that the progamers adquire in order to be able to fullfill their own goals.
I strongly believe that I have the perfect 16 age requirements to become a great progamer. For years I’ve awaited for this chance, and I am not going to let it slip for nothing in the world.
I'm Carlo from Italy, I'm 21 and my Starcraft id is ToT)ClouD(. I don't really have much to say besides I want to become a progamer because I want to win a Starleague. This is my goal and I will give all I have to achieve it. My main hobby is Starcraft of course and I'd gladly go to Korea because I absolutely Love korean culture and I would like to live it first hand.
Hello, my name is Cristobal and I'm 16. I live in Santiago, Chile and I go to school. My ID is MYM.DinOt, Im zerg user and like to play agressive. I started playing three years ago because starcraft it's really funny and competitive. I would like to play in Korea because its seems like a nice experience, playing in a very different country and training to be the best. Something interesting about me is that when propose something to myself I always do it no matter what, and now my goal is go to Korea.
My name is Eric Rothmuller aka Qoo)G5. I am from California, USA, I am 20 years old (soon 21) and I am a Protoss player. I want to come to Korea as a progamer simply because it is what I have always wanted to do, it is my dream. I feel that if given this opportunity and enough time to practice I have the potential to not only compete in the Koreans leagues but succeed in them. I would practice 16 hours a day, non-stop, push myself as hard as I can and give it my all. I have been playing for 10 years and I understand the game very well. I have school and work which doesn't leave me as much time as I would like to play Starcraft but I Love the game and play it as much as I can.
I play a very unique style of Protoss which many people have told me and I often theorize and think about unique builds / unit combos for certain match ups / maps. I am not just a robot who copies builds from pros and do it over and over. My weak points are my mechanics which I can easily improve on if given all day to practice and my strong points are my intelligence in the game. I have always followed the progaming scene and would absolutely Love to take it on and experience it first hand. I have real determination for being a successful player, not just an average player.
My favorite unit combo is Scout / DT in PvZ (sounds stupid but my training partners say its the most imbalanced thing in the world ^_^). My favorite match up is PvZ because it is a very beautiful match up with good unit combinations. My 2nd favorite match up is PvT simply because I Love thinking up build orders for different maps to get around the ever predictable Terran player. PvT is also probably my best match up because I am really good at keeping track of Terran movement and have a lot of experience in PvT. I have been to Korea before and I understand what I am getting into when I say I want to become a progamer. Outside of Starcraft, I really enjoy playing Tennis. This is my other passion, it is also a fantastic game. My favorite players are sAviOr, Iloveoov, Reach and Jaedong. My favorite team is Air Force Ace and my favorite match of all time was the OSL Finals Boxer vs iloveoov.
All I can really say in regards to becoming a progamer is that I understand the position I would be in, where my skill level is at the moment and how much I would need to improve and that I would give it my absolute best so that I will never have any regrets about how hard I tried. I will give it my heart and soul and that is all I can do. I don't know what else I can say about myself.
Thank you for this opportunity. - Eric "G5" Rothmuller
Hello I뭢 Alejandro, Online ID : NaH_DeSkA, I live in Michoacn, Mexico, I am 17 years old, my history began 10 years ago, I start playing when my brother used to play, he was teaching me, I used to play with him and his friends, I liked so much BW that was interrogating me to come very highly, nevertheless motivate me more when a friend of mine that I was played with him got invited to Korea to the big leagues, for my it was a big satisfaction to be still training, it was in 2001, My friend could not go and that made me disappoint, he said to me " you have talent and can exploit it simply with the age that you have " it helped myself to still on the road to go very far, I had a time in which i took a time off for questions of school but now I cannot leave the opportunity that it뭩 appearing to me For my more than other thing feel a great happiness on having seen that someone as me have the opportunity of giving to know to my country Mexico, not only to Mexico but to all the Latin players, for my has not been easy to come shaft here, nevertheless I have proposed many goals to me, in spite of the fact that I have had stumbles feel that they have helped me to be growing as player, has happened to me that the people do not play like before, now they play of different way since the time changed, they used only to win a simple game without mattering like, now what they do it is to play a motivated and entertaining game. My style is maybe a bit risky for a few players and maybe they don뭪 like it so much, but i like to play this way, i like to invent techs and to win using them, i would like to go to Korea to be even better and to be emphasized for being Latin and Mexican. ^^
Hi my name is Bryce Bates and I am 20 years old. I live in USA. I am Machine[Media], my hobbies are basically watching UFC, Jujitzu and starcraft. I have been playing this awsome game for about 5-6 years now " about 4 years if im only counting non money maps and 1v1". It has always been my dream to go to korea and to compete at a professional level. I picked Zerg because i like their mobility, I like their macro, and I Love mutal control :D. I think that I have what it takes to go to korea because I am still at a young age, I am willing to learn and I want to be the best. I have the drive to play this game at a professional level, I am constantly improving, I already play on average about 40-50 games a day, and if I was in a pro house surrounded by awsome practice partners I believe my skill would multiply. I am not saying im the best out here though, I know I am far from it but in a matter of months already I have managed to turn myself into a much better player and their is still alot of room for improvement that I am more than willing to fix. Another thing that i believe is one of my better traits is my speed, I average about 280 apm which is alot higher than most forginers and is on a competitive level with most koreans. I think that if i was given a chance to play on a professional team at a professional level that I could make something of myself. I completly understand what a change moving to korea and trying to become a progamer would be and I am willing to accept that. I would just Love to become a part of the community that I have watched for so many years and to finnaly be given a chance to prove my worth to it.
Hey there, I'm ZpuX from sweden, currently studying mechanical engineering. Always thought it would be cool to go to korea as a progamer, because I Love to play competitive and I see this as a big opportunity to do what I've always wanted.
A funny fact, my sister is adopted from south korea when she was ~1 years old, she is also the very same person who introduced me to starcraft for the first time. I bet they are born with a starcraft gene somewhere!
Hello everyone, I'm 20 years old male student of IT living in Poland and my name is Jacek Sendrowski also known as Predator, zerg user .I'm a StarCraft player since 2000 and almost from beggining i wanted to go to Korea and play with the best out there. Now when i have the chace... it's really nice and incredible feeling. After a one year break i was still able to qualify into TOP16 of such prestigious Qualification Tourney like Spirit.
So yeah, i was only 12 when i began my journey with StarCraft. At that time i've heard there will be a small tourney organized in my City, so i prepared with my brother. That was the first time when i felt Love to this game.I've met a lot of friends which are still playing even today. From that time i've improved a lot i think.I didn't had any great success but now its my time!
I'm a person which knows what wants to do,i have spirit for this game and always try to give 110% from myself.Every game counts for me, i'm analyzing my own loses to get better and better. Also i'm following Korean Progaming scene.
I think that i'm able to suprise everyone and show my skills,my 8 year experience can prove this for sure.
Also cheers for polish community (hi Netwars.pl) and thank you Artosis for such a chance.I'm coming for yaaa~
Hi my name is Matti and I'm 21 years old. I livei n Finland, Rauma and I Love SC! My online ID is iG.Arcneon. I'd Love to be a progamer right now, it would just time wisely fit in my life now. I've been interested of this game since it came out and I immediately started playing online, It's been 10 years now and I'm still playing the game, and as far as I know I'm pretty good at it too.
I have a lot potential, I can game on for hours and hours, days to days and weeks to weeks and apparently year to year ;p I know I can become a lot better player than what I am at the moment, simply because I'm NOT at my top at the moment. I just came back about a month ago or so from almost 2 years off bw time, I was doing military service and other stuff in life during this time, but now I find myself playing the game again, I've been playing past 2 weeks pretty hard to get my skills back and I think I'm doing a fine job. I still play without any sounds whatsoever, I just totaly rely on my minimap observing on gamewise, I like to listen to music a lot so winamp is just playing on the background 24/7.
I'm a totally evolving player, I don't think I am the best, ever. I always take my opponents seriously and play my best game. When I find holes in my games, I tend to fix them the best possible ways I can imagine of. I don't really care of the game results I'm having if I have evolved during the game, for exsample, about 2 weeks ago I was not very good still, my macro was totally off cause of the no-playing time I've had and I spotted this, so I just played and did nothing but concentrated on my macro. I lost many games cause of this but I was very happy after a week because my macro had gotten way... WAY better. Now I can match top players with my macroing again, which obviously is needed. Every game I lose, if I don't know why I lost, I always find it out. Doing this lead me to saving every single rep I've played since the replay saving option came available. If I don't know what went wrong, I will look the replay as many times as needed to see it, and when I see it, I fix it.
I know there's better players than me, and always will be. But I can shape up a lot and give just about anyone a good run for their money.
I'm a very dedicating person, when I want to do something, I do it the best I can, and everything on the side can stay on the side. I'm totally focused to what I do at the time.
My old dream was to become a progamer when I was younger, I haven't had this dream for couple years, but when I heard about this tournament, the old dream came alive. I want to become a progamer and I'm willing to do a lot to get there.
Right now all I do is exersize and play sc hoping all the time that I would get picked out. Well that's about it, I go play some games !
And thanks a lot for making a tournament like this, I just wish it would have been a lot earlier when I was in shape Huge inspiration still, great job !
Hi, I'm Marius Overhagebck also known as mTwAMD-HoRRoR from Germany. I have been playing Starcraft for five years now (3 years "lowmaps") and I'm still interested in competing with other good players, I like the competition in general. I'll enjoy the hard fights and lets see if I'll be able to win. My race is terran and I like to play an uncommon style. Looking forward to the tournament matches ;p.

If you don't expect bad shit to go down in war you need to do more more research.
The Nuremberg Trials established (not that anybody actually cares) that waging wars of aggression and crimes against peace were the supreme crimes because they were the source from all other crimes originate - crimes on the order of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Lol in the mbs discussion thread, dont think anyone ever really read it =)
Although it's not too common, I sometimes see Protoss players use Dark Archons and Maelstrom vs Zerg. Theoretically, in my mind, maelstrom would be pretty useful with storms and for stopping drops and things. My question is: are Dark Archons effective in PvZ (Why, or why not please), and if they are, when should I get them/maelstrom, how many should I get under normal circumstances (around 1 or 2??).
All of this assuming I just go from core straight to archives, and I get storm and a couple ht's first.

this idea wouldn't fit starcraft. the game is about adapting and changing to the obstacles your opponent throws at you. if you can't build a certain unit or chose the wrong pre-game settings, you could be screwed over by pure luck. it wouldn't really keep your opponent guessing because rarely anyone builds ALL the possible units their race has in the same game.
The guy was talking about pre-game settings for starcraft games. The forum is closed, so I couldn't quote it directly.

No one wins forever (see Tennis, Roger Federer has a bad year). BUT
from time to time there are some Players/Sportsmen that can dominate theyr sport for some time. Examples? Federer, Sampras, Rossi, Schumacher, Woods, Ronaldhino, Jordan and so did Boxer, Nada, Savior and now probably Flash does.
Only very few can do it for a VERY longtime (Schumacher, Jordan, Rossi, Federer) but they also got beaten some times. This had nothing to do with psychologie, you just *have* up and downs, nothing is working perfect everytime, sometimes your down and the competition NEVER sleeps. There is allways that young kid that wants to best you, it's actually just a matter of time until there comes a better player, be it because you got lazy, because he is just better or because you just don't feel good on that day.
The psychical mindset for sure also plays into this, but i don't think ANY of the real top pro gamers got a weak mind. They wouldn't get that far if they would show weaknesses and mental blockades if they play against certain enemys that owned them the last time. If you train SC/BW for X to XX hours a day, you gotta lose 5 times in a row against someone that you should beat. You can't just shut your mindset down in training, this would also *hit* you, but i don't see this happen?
The real thing is just, most of the Top players (until today) had *clear* strenghts. Now this is shaken a bit. To bring another Tennis analogy.. Long time Ago there were: GOOD Players that relied 90% on theyr service. GOOD Players that JUST played serve and volley. GOOD Players that were BAD on Sand (or the other way).
Now what happened? The sport evolved. Federer, Nadal (and Djokovic) may still have *theyr thing* but they can play all the other aspects of Tennis to at least the level theyr concurrence can. They are *complete*. While Federer has an extremly strong service, he is way more than that, he's fast (well, not compared to Nadal), he's strong... And so are Nadal and Djokovic. The Tennissport is better than ever before, why? Because it's no longer dominated by some *Trend*.
Probably this is also happening to SC/BW? There won't be MR. MACRO which soley on this principle dominates his oponents, there also won't be MR. MICRO that does things people wouldn't even believe and has enough Macro to deliver the killing blow in time. This is basically, atleast i hope that, just the next level of the game.
The game is played more and more perfect, the more players that get into the *reach* of *the perfect game* the faster all of them lose because you just dind't feel good that day.
In Tennis up until now it's just Nadal, Federer and probably Djokovic that can keep up with each other, who will it be in SC/BW?

Unentschieden: The undisputed inverse relationship to game speed is between game speed and decision making time. I believe we can all agree that if events occur more quickly, players have less time to make relevant decisions as more recent events or changes in the battlefield will make many events prior irrelevant. However decision making time does not translate into strategy.
That "strategy" is defined as carrying a time commitment is semantically wrong. Strategy can mean a plan, or the art/science/skill of creating such plan, in executing large-scale military operations. In reality, these operations can take months to formulate. In Starcraft, the evolution of these schemes requires the same. However, as Klogon pointed out, they are not drafted during a game, but rather over the course of millions of games. One does not simply decide to create a new grand strategy on the day of the battle, without circumstantial evidence, just like an attorney does not enter the courtroom without examining all relevant case law. Generals in real life study previous battles, and go into battles with strategies already planned. It is the same in a game.
Where decision making time comes into play is in mental execution of the strategy. Execution involves adaptation. Religiously maintaining the same strategy will not succeed against an opponent that fluidly adapts his plans to defeat yours. Tactical operations can mean smaller-scale operations, but they also consist of those operations that in aggregate comprise a strategic operation. With less decision making time, a player will have less time to consider information and thus will make less informed tactical and strategic decisions.
That a player has less time to consider information has no bearing on the actual depth of strategy in the game itself. It does have bearing on how much someone can process during a single game, but over the course of several games, the strategic depth is not directly affected.
Success comes to those who can process all the events in a single arena, and all the wealth of strategies from previous contests, and respond accordingly, every second of the game.
This is why success is fucking amazing.
Other points: Battlecruisers are used in TvT deadlocks. Nukes are too easily avoided by armies and workers to justify commitment. The number of virtually unavoidable worker kills netted by a 4 vulture drop makes even such a small harass as this more viable.
Even Civilization has team games. Why? FFA is less entertaining for both spectators and players since, especially in video games, you are processing great amounts of uncertain information. It is worse than actual diplomacy since you gain nothing from the medium of text, with which you must interact with other parties. There is, in fact, less actual strategic consideration here and more luck since there is so little to rely on in reading your rivals' intentions.
Also, in these political situations evidence shows that it is both more beneficial to parties and more likely that polarization will occur, creating two blocs (Both World Wars, the Cold War, Peloponnesian Wars). If this is the case, it would be more efficient to begin with teams.
In BWChart you often find a high ratio of Micro:APM. I'm no expert on BWChart so I have no clue on the conclusiveness of this, but I'll offer this skepticism. If it does not differentiate between positioning orders (outside of battle) or worker orders, the number probably exceeds the APM devoted to actual battle orders. Thus it cannot justify a 50% "Micro" weight. I apologize for assuming you used this to justify. I have the feeling that you have nothing to justify this random number, but feel free to prove me wrong.

The Terran faction has a similar concept with plasma bombs or yamato being chosen individually for the battlecruiser, so giving a similar option to the Mothership makes sense. Having the unit restricted to just one for balance's sake is a lame cop-out, but upgrade costs per ability could reduce the benefit of building a fleet of Motherships.
As for abilities, Time Bomb seems like a sort of lame ability by the actual effects (reducing damage taken by the Mothership), but it has a cool concept. I'd rather see Time Bomb protect all units within the radius from attack (perhaps it already does that and I'm misunderstanding the ability). Planet Cracker is another ability with a cool concept that is paired with mediocre effects. The concept really works, and we've seen the awesome power of Protoss warships unleashed. However, such a powerful attack is completely impossible to put into the game. A Planet Cracker should be Indepence Day style, huge explosion rocking the planet to it's very core. Any attempt to balance that would make the Protoss' planet destroying ability seem pathetic. So I think this ability should be scrapped. Also, Protoss has no real need for an AOE attack spell other than Psi Storm.
Black Hole is a very interesting spell that I like a lot. Somebody beat me to it, but I agree with the concept of a small (2x2) area wherein units have no chance to escape instant death, a 4x4 radius where escape is difficult but possible, a 6x6 where it's certainly possible, but being in it is very hazardous, and maybe up to a 10x10 radius where player could lose units if they didn't micro them at all (so a player who isn't paying attention to his fleet, he could lose it all, rather than he's intensely microing it and he loses it all anyways). I don't like the idea of channeling spells in starcraft (such a lame Warcraft3 concept). The essence of the entertaininment in SC BW spells was that they were cast, took instant and occasionally devastating effect. Black Hole should certainly follow the same line, and I would very much like to see it make the final cut
I guess I was really taking the idea of posting well seriously. It was a rare trait on the Starcraft II board. Still is, actually

Sure it is. If you have a little group of lings, group the mutas with one in the center that can't escape.
So if you don't like having an ovie drifting around, or if you have ovie speed, this can work better.
This is your definition of practical? Putting 4 Lings in a corner and grouping with one of them? No.
The majority of todays map allows you to trap a ling behind the minerals with the help of only one other ling. That's a total of 2 and imo far better than having the wierd overlord flying around.
11mutas can 2hit-kill a turret, the last 2hp will burn down before the third attack can be completed. 11mutas will one-hit a stimmed marine with their bounce (even if the first marine dies after 4attacks all 11 will bounce if they hit at the same time, bouncing with buildings works too).
Also, there's a zvz late game technique known as the scourge bomb. You order all your mutas to follow a scourge and then fly the scourge into your opponent. Ideally the scourge should absorb the first wave of fire from your opponent and your mutas should come perfectly stacked up. Theoretically it sounds good (and looks cool!), whether is efficient in practice is arguable. Was long time since I last looked into it.
Well, my first post was actually my desktop, but I'll spare you that image.
True removal of vocals is one of the holy grails of music production. Only on the odd unusual track is this ever really a possibility. Usually, any removal or suppression of the frequency range that the vocals inhabit will affect the rest of the music to its detrement.
On the rare occasion that the vocals are truly centered with no stereo widening or spacial effects applied, they can be suppressed by reversing the phase of the isolated center, but this will still effect any other mono-centered instruments severely also.

Other method is not to forget Shift+f2, f3, and f4. Helps me a lot with zerg. When I'm close to maxed and have like 5-6 control groups I designate "hatch patches" to these.
Or if you can handle decent micro without hotkeys you can hatch 1-0 and use two hands to produce.

Obviously, due to my crappy internet connection, I haven't been able to follow it all the time, but I do my best to stay up to date. This season was the first season I could actually follow the three main leagues! That said, I don't agree with all your ideas.
The first reason, and main reason, I don't agree with most of your ideas is that they aim to increase the entertainment of the proleague, but I believe that it's at the cost of some balance issues.
Your idea of splitting up the leagues... well, there's nothing wrong with it, but I also don't see the point of it. You say that if ACE loses to Samsung in the first week of play, and Samsung is leading the league, ACE only has one more head to head match vs Samsung to make up any ground. This is the basis of all big leagues, leagues are not about single team vs. team performances, but about sustained team performances. Take KTF this season. They beat Samsung twice yet it didn't make any difference. That said, it doesn't mean that individual matches, and rivalries, aren't important: They're just not as important as consistent performance.
The second consequence you mention is the lack of rivalries. As mentioned earlier, I agree that it's not as important as consistent team performace, but it is still there. Take the FA Premier League this year, 20 teams, double round robin format, exactly the same as the Proleague, just bigger. Yet that doesn't stop rivalries from developing, especially among the higher ranked teams. Arsenal vs Liverpool, Man U vs Chelsea. Yet every single match is important, sometimes for first position, sometimes for a top four position. Either way, it's always tense.
As to your idea of changing the play day format, there's only one 2v2. As you say, it's a team league, but starcraft is mostly an individual game. One 2v2 seems to me to be the perfect balance. Teams are put in the difficult situation of either creating a fixed 2v2 team, which focuses those players on teamplay (and possibly removes them from 1v1 leagues) or using makeshift 2v2 teams, but allowing more flexibility in your line-up. As to the placement of the 2v2 game, 3rd game seems perfect to me. This is clearly the most important spot for any game, and thus it increases the importance of the 2v2 match, making it more prominent than just 1 out of 5 games. Teams like Samsung have shown that.
The idea of winner stays on is a bit circumspect as it allows teams to, technically, win the league with one strong player. Even if, like you say, they only make use of that format once every 3 weeks, it is still bound to screw over someone. Say there's a very tight battle for first spot, and the first team plays against the second team, the first team fielding a strong balanced squad (eg. MBC) against the second team that has a slightly worse line-up, but one strong player (eg. CJ). Having the bad luck of drawing the winner stays on format for this match-up would clearly disadvantage the balanced squad. Even worse, a team like Samsung sits in fourth position (in this example). They have a very good chance of winning the league, but due to a bad start they've only barely made it in. In the last match, the match that they need to win to maintain fourth position, they draw someone like Pantech EX. Obviously EX plays Nada first match, and Nada beats Stork which causes a bit of an upset. Next up is FBH, which Nada with his strong TvT stands a fair chance of beating. After that it's highly possible that EX could beat Samsung. Thus one upset (Nada > Stork), and one evenly matched game (Nada = FBH) could cause a massive upset. All I'm saying is that the winner stays on format would clearly disadvantage some teams too much, and having it just some of a time would leave a lot to luck. For me, the current set-up is nicely balanced, especially with the ace match at the end.
As to proleague teamplay... I agree with you that the teamplay isn't very evident in the proleague, but as mentioned earlier, Starcraft is mostly a 1v1 (if only because most leagues are 1v1 which prevents most players from becoming dedicated team players). That doesn't mean that the proleague is not a team sport, just like the Formula 1 is a team sport. The team strategy part of the proleague (and what makes it so interesting to me) is done before games. It's about the players recruited by the team, the team strategy per match (compare Lecaf's match strategy with say KTF's strategy), the team practices and coach influences. Most of these things we don't see, we only see the effects of it. That said, I'm not against your ideas.
The StarBrain idea is interesting, as is the team melee idea. Of course, team melee would be like 2v2, except rarer. Why would a player become a team melee player, thus cutting himself off from all play except proleague play (sure, he could still play 1v1, but the time he spends practising team melee, other players will spend practising 1v1).
Finally, the maps were ... interesting. DMZ was awful, obviously. As mentioned earlier, Fantasy wasn't part of the MSL, but it does seem to be against Terran. Monty wasn't that bad and as mentioned, by DjEtter, it forced some innovative strategies to be created. Geometry was obviously very imbalanced, but the Terran mirror matches on geometry were very enjoyable. Still, they should take geometry out. All in all, I enjoy new maps. Perhaps they should send the maps to be played to the pro-teams a week before they announce them, and then pick some of the maps out of the bunch?
In the end, I'm happy with the proleague as it is. I don't watch every match, but I support my team religiously, and each match is tense. I wonder what changes they will make though...
PS. Can anyone tell me when the major leagues start again (MSL, OSL, SPL)?

You'll probably notice that it is my first post. Yes it is. I found the level of awareness on this matter very disturbing.
Basically, don't panic. This is NOT an epidemic. I'm not going to say out right away that it's a get rich quick scheme, but nowadays, anything is possible.
With a little more research, I think you'll find that the media, as always, has blown it out of proportion.
A big problem that humans face, is when something is unknown to us, we make assumptions. These assumptions can induce fear and cause widespread panic. If only people READ and RESEARCHED the topic, they would see that it isn't as bad as initially thought.
Without wanting to start any form of flame war, I'll just make a quick example. When the Twin Towers were hit, they estimated deaths to be above 10,000. I'm not sure about the exact number, but I'm sure it's under 4,000.
I'm not saying these deaths aren't tragic, I would just like to point out how the media uses hyperbole to attract ratings and sales.
Again, I apologies if this sounds like I'm attacking the media, but I'm a little frustrated at how they publicise the bad news, but not the good news. The pandemics, but not the cures.
I apologies again if I have offended anyone, and I assure you it was done unintentionally.
What if eveytime you build a unit your screen moves to that building regardless of hotkey using, or some kind of mechanism that makes your come back to your base several times during the game, other than that i dont think MBS will impact the game negatively if sc2 is balanced with that in mind, and i dont see a reason why the game couldnt carry on the awesome sc1 felling of micro and macro.

1. how do i get passed that early seal
2. how do i get rid of all the mines if he is covering them with seiged tanks
I can not and will never be able to fully understand the mentality of someone like this w1r3d fellow. How he can do something so cruel to an orginization providing a free service as good and as high quality as PGT is beyond me. This is some good advice from a friend who has had a family history of people joining the military: "if you have any doubt whatsoever, any doubt at all, then don't even consider joining the military." Think about it, you are going to be spending all of your time with some small breaks in between to serve in the military. This is the same level as a life commitment, and you never know for sure what you will be doing. Talk to family about it too.
Here are the different sections of today's episode for anyone who feels like tackling them one at a time. The Answer Zerg Mining Mechanic: Harvesting Tentacles Protoss Mining Mechanic: Warp- Out Fields Terran Mining Mechanic: Automining Closing Thoughts
The Answer
The solution is to make building up the war machine fun again.
1) Increased emphasis on buildings (treat them like stationary units with their own personalities and functions) make the user want to come back to base to do something cool like launch a nuke or cast a global effect.
2) Make resource gathering and army production engaging and interactive by approaching these tasks as a "mini-game." In the original starcraft making a unit was a mini-game because you clicked to create the worker and in a little while out popped your prize (the unit!) and you had to go back and look at it in all its workery glory. And then you ordered it to go do something and you got a second prize (some resources!). The big thing was that you witnessed the fruit of your labor and that you willingly devoted some attention to your home base to improve your situation. Whats needed is a game mechanics that plays within the confines of automining and mbs (and maybe secretly mimic traditional resource collection) and is still fun.
3) Use these two things as a way to add innovation to starcraft (which many critics claim is severely lacking).
Our Thesis begins with unique resource gathering systems for each race to further diversify and create three different playstyles. I would suggest keep the resources the same so that the core gameplay is the same. I propose three potential race resource mechanics. Zerg Harvesting Tentacles Protoss Warp- Out Fields Terran SCV Automining
Zerg Mining Mechanic: Harvesting Tentacles
How It Works This mechanic would require zerg players to return to their hatchery and select a tentacle. The player then drags this tentacle over to the desired mineral patch and releases the mouse. The tentacle latches on (accompanied by appropriate graphic) and can then begin harvesting the minerals at a rate concurrent with traditional worker gathering.
This solution is an optimal solution because it recreates the mechanical aspects of manual mining (non-automining) while masking the fact that theoretically this is the same as manual mining. Players have an expectation (from other current RTS games) that they should be allowed to automate their unit's actions and waypoints. They do not (yet) have expectations that they should be able to automate building responses. By introducing entirely novel systems you can once again require the player to perform a vital task (manage an army and a home base) without having them view it as a chore, burden or relic of an archaic system.
Additionally, the dragging and linkage actions should be accompanied by appropriate alien squirming, grabing, morphing etc. This provides a visual reward every time a new mineral line is established. For those who are about to respond that this so incredibly imba (yada yada yada) please note that the rates can be adjusted to give the exact same harvesting rate as a individual worker hiking back and forth from base to mineral. In case you havn't figured it out yet anything can be balanced (starcraft's three distinct races proved that).
So to clarify we no longer have drones for harvesting minerals (maybe keep them in some other capacity for making buildings/defense/gas). Instead, a link is manually established between the hatchery and minerals by the player. The act of establishing this link requires almost the same attention and clicking patterns that you had with traditional (manual mining) starcraft. This allows for all the engagement that conventional resource management enjoys…at least for the zerg player.
Community Feedback: Harvesting Tentacles
Dabman from Teamliquid.net proposed this: “The tentacles themselves should cost minerals, either by permanently using a drone to morph, or being built from the hatchery. The added macro would come from the fact that there would be 8-10 mineral patches, and you would not be able to immediately create tentacles for every one. There would also be no horrible penalty for not making tentacles; after all, once the minerals run out, the tentacles are lost value. In general, tentacles would be the way to go if you had the APM to rush back to base from time-to-time to add another tentacle.” (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=78498¤tpage=4)
Dabman suggests allowing drones to upgrade into tentacles. I had originally conceived of tentacles as replacing drones but I like this dabman’s vision better. For a mineral price drones could mutate into a tentacle. They would latch onto a hatchery and a tentacle would shoot out of there back. The player controlled action could be the player selecting the drone, clicking morph tentacle and then selecting the hatchery. The player would also select a mineral line for the tentacle to latch onto. The tentacle would then function as a more efficient worker line. The player has now freed up all the workers that were mining that mineral patch and can use them for building production or send them to expansions. Dabman further suggest the mechanic be implemented in such a way that does not compromise the necessity of drones in zerg gameplay.
Purchasing the Tentacle This is the area that will most benefit from playtesting. Should tentacles be purchased at the hatchery and then grown and then connected? Should tentacles be provided free and sporadically like larva and the act of connecting them require resources? Thoughts?
Why Zerg? The zerg playstyle more than any other race focuses on large numbers of cheap units. It is only fitting that the zerg player be required to spend a portion of his time at the base generating macro advantage rather then just attack moving for 20 min. Resource mechanic is new, strange and foreign: appropriate for the most alien of races. Mimics biological systems (roots, blood vessels, proboscis) Reinforces the hatchery as the nucleus of the zerg base Could generate periodically like larva.
Advantages Interactive Macro Intensive Aesthetically appealing Characteristic of race themes and lore
Disadvantages Different (AAAAHHHH) Difficult (but not impossible) to balance
Credit Where Credit is Due The tentacle idea for zerg harvesting (sans drag selecting) was proposed on Blizzard's forums a couple months ago by someone else. If that person wants to come forward and claim credit for that I would really like to discuss these issues with you.
Protoss Mining Mechanic: Warp- Out fields
How It Works To collect minerals protoss players would need to select a base and "build" a warp-out field over a mineral field. Initiation of the warp-out field would cost money and the warp-out field would need time to materialize before it could begin phasing out minerals to protoss home worlds. In essence this requires the same actions as selecting a nexus (now probe) building a probe (initializing warp out field) and directing that probe to appropriate mineral field (placing warp out field on mineral field). An electrical disturbance animation along the lines of psi storm or disruption field signifies that this effect is in place and processing a mineral field. The process does not require further automation because it relies on construction actions. (and thank god for to automate construction actions would necessitate automation of all of base building).
Why Protoss? Protoss are the masters of warping technology. If a race has the capacity to recall and warp-in units from one place to another the logical extension of this technology is to teleport your resources directly into your manufacturing systems. Aesthetically the electrical field over a mineral field will fit right at home with the Protoss look particularly in a new base with many warp-in and warp-out fields going up at once (make sure there different enough for visual clarity).
Warp Out Field Feedback Request Question for you guys. Should warp-out fields have an upgrade ability? Should you be able to stack them?
Advantages Player must come back to base to place warp out fields Devotes attention and mouse clicks to macromanagement New spin on old mechanic (warp-in) Keeps with racial traits and lore Only one probe required for a complete base (natural extension of starcraft 1 probe's ability to create a whole base by itself)
Disadvantages Only one probe required for a complete base (we all know how much we hate having "heroes")
Surge Feature One variation of my warp-out mechanic included a surge feature where the player can put a warp field in hyperdrive to generate additional minerals at the cost of decreased production for a time period after (incorporates parts of current gas build). For balance considerations this could be hard capped.
Terran Mining Mechanic: Automining
How It Works Terran player clicks to make a scv and sets the rally point to a nearby mineral field. When the SCV pops out it immediately heads to the mineral field and begins its menial labor. Got it?
Here to explain why giving only one race automining might actually work is 1950's Family Values Dad and Lil Billy. Lil Billy: Wow dad this game is incredible. Thank you so much for buying me starcraft 2. 1950's Family Values Dad: No problem son. You know in my day we didn't have all of those new features you kids have now like MBS and unlimited selection or that automining that the Terrans have. Lil Billy: But dad I don't understand how come the Terran get automining while the Protoss and Zerg have to place all their gathering systems. Isn't that totally IMBA? 1950's Family Values Dad: Well Lil Billy, It is true that the Terran do have the advantage of being able to increase their mineral production while away at the battle lines. However there are a lot of advantages that the other races enjoy. For instance, did you know that you cant kill the Zerg harvesting tentacles. No you have to destroy the whole hatchery. Lil Billy: Golly that's a huge advantage for the Zerg. 1950's Family Values Dad: Yes indeed. The attention that the Terran player saves by automating his minerals comes at the cost of having to protect his workers when his base is invaded. Lil Billy: Oh I get it! The key to giving one race a cool thing is to balance it with equally cool features for the other races. 1950's Family Values Dad: Right you are son. Its all part of the elegant and cohesive balance that makes starcraft a truly extraordinary game. Any other questions? Lil Billy: Will Russia destroy us in an atomic firestorm? 1950's Family Values Dad: We'll see Lil Billy, we'll see.
Why Terran? As the race responsible for the Kel-Morian Combine you better believe the Terran are good at mining. They don't need no teleportation voodoo or some bio-prehensile appendage. No siree. YOU! Redneck trucker dude, go get in that suit and get outside and when your out there go mine some of that blue junk and keep doing that till I tell you to stop. This resource mechanic feels the most familiar and thus perfect for the race closest to kin. It stands in stark contrast to the more "alien" resource mechanics for the protoss and zerg
Advantages Traditional Easy for beginning players
Disadvantages Little macro for the terran player, this can be compensated by increased emphasis on building centered mechanics (more on this later).
Justification Ultimately, it might not be a totally bad thing to have a race that favors heavy micro, one that favors heavy macro and one that falls somewhere in between (fits the racial trichotomy).
Closing Thoughts
Please remember these are not hard and fast ultimatums. I am not saying "this is how SC2 HAS to be or else it will fail and I won't buy it the end". What I am really advocating more then anything else is a new way of looking at macromanagement. I believe my proposal opens up avenues of design space that may have not been explored previously. The addition of contemporary UI features has proven incompatible with both the traditional macro SC2 enjoys and the multitude of aspirations SC2 hopes to accomplish. In order to fill all three of these big shoes the first thing that has to happen is for designers and fans to at least entertain novel approaches to RTS gameplay. Even harder then this but equally necessary: All parties involved must be prepared to compromise on some levels for the greater good. Because although starcraft as a universe is defined by the conflict of three obstinate and opposing factions, starcraft as a game can not be.
Excellent job, you've laid the foundation for garbage players like myself. When using your BO's I don't feel uncomfortable, I have a plan and I can focus on my micro and macro a lot more and it's really a lot more fun that way, thanks.

On July 01 2006 11:57 Reason wrote: Hi skyglow xD just joined TL but i been reading your posts for some time now, so i thought id check the game out and see what was what. You had a nice opening with high unit count and a fast expo, with some amusing harass ^_^, however you left two goons outside his main which was a needless waste, one or a zeal/probe would have been better. You then went onto 3 gate goon then robo, seeing his 2 fac vult opening. He had a pathetic amount of tanks and with your nice goon platoon size a quick shuttle w/zeal rush woulda nipped him in the bud nicely. You didn't really play too badly so im afraid I can only pick up on some minor points. First of all you got your second gas too early imo, though with third hard to secure safely perhaps you were thinking ahead ?? at ten minutes you got your obs, popped his observant mines and picked up your min only, then macrod pretty hard so by 12 minutes you had 147 supply and a sizeable force. Here was your opportunity to punish the terran for the nice little advantage you had; he had a poor tank force due to his early vult opening and he only had his main and his nat. At this 12 minute marker ( specific to your game im not implying this is a special time ) keeping him contained with your superior force and expoing all over the shop was definitely the best option, which you didnt take.. you gated up to 9 and went arb tech, whilst losing valuable units (defeating the point of gating up like a mad man) in a few IM GOING TO GO HIM >>>>>><<<<<<< NO IM NOT movements, which i have lost many games to, never do that One of Protoss' greatest assets are observers, you didnt really put them to as good use as you could have. 1 in the main was sufficient to see roughly what was going on, but i woulda put three in there, two to watch his spread of facts which your 1 ob couldnt see, and another to watch his supply mountain....<watching his psi, have a peek when his armories go down, plan out your next movements based on these, it helps to have obs in his army and outside where his forces sit so you can see when he attacks, but also with how much> you werent watching expos, once he gained a slight advantage he just expod up and crushed... if you had seen his expos you coulda stopped them, or went for some HT drops which with your gas surplus were definitely a missed opportunity; most if not all of his expos were completely vulnerable to HT/reaver drops, this would have won you the game. -_- Sum all that shit up.
Put more than 2 cannons at a vulnerable expo, vults will just rape them and its a waste of 300. Don't waste your units with indecisive attacks. You turned back because you realised you couldnt take his army---knowwhether you can or not, handy things obs' Please observe more^^ HT/reaver drops throughout(you would have known if this was a worthy investment if you had observer numbers and locations correct) 2 shuttles w/ 8 zeals + the army you had really woulda won you that game at almost any point until late game when you had fizzled your advantage away with inaction and unit wastage and his cheese terran army w/upgs just humped you. hope this helped, sorry if it didnt. Edit: Remember, harassing scv's = less money coming in, more money going out on more scv's, smaller army size. He only had to make 65 scv's that game. You made 135 probes i dont claim to know much but i think thats simply too much.
Because Savior just isn't what he used to be long time ago. Thus automatically Bisu doensn't look that strong at PVZ as we used to believe. I mean many have beaten Savior, Bisu has just done it more times, but most of the credits we give to Bisu as for being n1 is for having defeated Savior. But we've seen that defeating savior is not defeating the maestro anymore.. sad but true imo
So neither Savior nor Bisu are as strong as we (I) thought...
Had to be some Jaedong vs Bisu (maybe Bluestorm?)-.

<< At high speed, a game ceases to be a simulation of a real battlefield. Yes, we're playing in the far future with aliens and lasers and everything else, but come on. everybody's zipping around so fast that the screen looks like a shaken-up ant farm-which might make sense for the Zerg, but for marines to move like that en enormous suits of power armor is ridiculous, unless those resources crystals are supposed to be crystal meth. (that would explain why they're always out to score more.) >>
Failure to accurately simulate a battlefield is not a valid criticism. Can I have that chess set if you're done with it?
<< What's worse, though, is wthat when you're playing at that rate, you can go ahead and toss strategy out the window along with the realism. Min/maxers (people who bust out Microsoft Excel to figure out how to build the strongest possible force with the minimum possible time/resource investment) make the real strategic value of many RTS games debatable at normal speeds, but when sped up to two or three or four times as fast, it's not even a questions. It's no longer about out-thinking your opponent and the big picture, it's about reflexes, rehearsal of a super effecient build order, and micromanaging individual unit movement and abilities-no higher-level thinking required. >>
No, you can't toss strategy out the window, even at Fastest. If you do, someone who has not tossed their strategy out the window will beat you, using strategy.
Also, please realize that those spreadsheets apply equally well to Fastest, Normal, and Slowest. The most efficient builds are the most efficient no matter what speed you play at; the best strategies are the best no matter what speed you play at. A lot of the thinking (about build orders and counters and so on) has already been done for you; this is because StarCraft is an old game, not because it's a fast game.
<< In their Q&A and feedback time with Browder, some of the pro players noted that due to the changes made between Starcraft 1 and 2 there were a few moments when, while waiting for resources to acumulate or units to build, they felt they "didn't have anything to do." Isn't that when you're supposed to think? >>
Sorry, what's the point here? Speed setting has no effect on whether or not there are "empty times" within the game. The faster you go, the shorter the "empty times" are; the slower you go, the longer they are. Whether or not you think such "empty times" are desirable from a gameplay standpoint, is completely unrelated to speed setting.
<< I got yelled at a couple times during that trip for hosting a game and setting the speed to normal instead of fast or faster. I yelled back that if the game was supposed to be played at those speeds, they would be called normal. >>
If there was a setting you were "supposed" to play at, there would only be one setting.
Dan, to me this article seems very poorly thought-out. What you've done is to shed darkness on a very simple situation: Faster speed has no effect on optimal strategy but increases physical demand (for players) and adrenaline rush (for viewers). If you want to play a more relaxing game of StarCraft, that's fine; but I wish you wouldn't cast aspersions on everyone else's ability to think and move their hands at the same time.

My first post was some minor tip about map triggers but a lot of my earliest posts back in 2004 were arguing in favour of the idea of MBS and unlimited unit selection and how they wouldn't necessarily dumb down the game, even though it was too late to implement it in SC1. Hardly anyone agreed with me then but now with SC2 around the corner a lot more people accept that having a better interface isn't going to "turn the game into Warcraft 3", which was the popular argument back then .
