Hi guys, my friends and I are working on the app and we are now deciding on the name of it. We like the word "goer" as it is short, sounding and most importantly reflects the idea of the app very well.

Since we are not native English speakers, I would like to ask you about your associatios when you hear or read this word - "goer", without knowing what this app is actually about.

Would be really thankful.

It sounds like a 5 year old invented the word because he didn't knew the actual expression used for what he wanted to say.

Reminds me of when the federal government replaced the term "task force" to "work group" to make it sound less intimidating.

edit: Honestly though, it sounds very childish, and unless you have some revolutionary software I would avoid it at all costs.

oe is sometimes pronounced as ö, especially in German.
I am not sure if it is meant to be pronounced "Go'er" or "Gör".

Sounds like someone whos outgoing, and out to do things. Goer, like a do-er, a go-getter.

It sounds childish or simple or cutesy. Like someone is trying to think of a word that means "a person who is going" but it's all too complicated, so uses a not-word instead. It's not a word you would ever actually use in conversation.

That's not necessarily a problem if that's what you're going for, but that's what it gives.

So what's this app supposed to do? I'm thinking it sounds like a mangled version of 'going', so some sort of exercize-app?

I am also on the going association. So either some travel, map or exercise app is what I think about.

a real "get-goer"
i don't like it personally, as a hipster for these things, but i don't see how it wouldn't fit as a travel app.

I thought about "Go There" or a "person that goes to many places".

Except a person is a real go-getter, not a real get-goer.

"Goer" just sounds odd, like someone is saying the last word in "blood and gore" with a drawl.

I could totally see it being used in a Donald Trump speak... "I'm the greatest around goer".

The Up-Goer 5 was my first association, too.

A bit more thinking lead me to believe that at least in the german speaking areas you will have the problem that "Gör" means "bratty child", and oe is often used as ö on the internet due to some programs having problems with weird letters.

He was a real go getter in fairness. Nobody ever called him inefficient. Twice.

Well apparently "goer" really is an English word according to google. But please don't use it, it just sounds so silly. Almost
no one in the English speaking word says "I'm a goer!!" as far as I know

On a bright note, if you were to describe a girl as a real goer then I would
A) Think you're a posh cunt
B) Think the girl in question is a total slag
C) Think the girl in question is very into horseriding

That's pretty much what it means in England, although it's a word that doesn't really get used outside of its class.

Honestly, I do not make any positive associations when reading goer.
"Best" case scenario, I would think what Kwark mentioned above.
Worst case, I would imagine that some little kid made up a word for something he does not know what to call.
Either way, I would not take anything seriously that hides behind the name goer.
