They used to do these really often and then stopped at 2010, but are bringing it back this year. I think it's actually been really fun to make a bracket, some really tough choices in this contest. There's a lot of clashes between old games and new games, and I'm not sure how much nostalgia will factor into this. Some of the top matches (IMO) are:
- Goldeneye vs. Diablo II, and Skyrim vs. the winner
- Mario Brothers 3 vs. Pokemon Red/Blue (2nd round)
- Earthbound vs. Borderlands 2
- Portal 2 vs. Sonic 2
- Mega Man X vs. Batman Arkham City
Also as a Starcraft fan I'm a little biased, but I think its division is wide open. I personally have it going to the final eight but I could also see it losing to Destiny in the first round, which is an extremely popular game right now. It all depends on the people voting, do they only know the current games or do they prefer the classics?
I think it'll be a very interesting competition and I figured some people might be interested in this and submitting brackets

I remember the top 100 l ist they released on umm G4 i think or the tv show whatever was 5 parts, and Broodwar ranked number 9 or 8 on it

Surprised to see no league of legends or dota 2. Or Counterstrike, for that matter.

yea people who play dota, cs, bw etc are a different breed of gamers than the usual gamefaqs reader :D

Is that a fan vote or do you actually expect Starcraft to win, MrCon? 
I remember the yearly character battles where the grand finals would always be Link vs Cloud lol. And always Link winning of course.

I haven't paid attention to GFaqs in a looooong time. I probably used to frequent it around 2003-2006 the most. I really wonder what the voter base is even like now. A lot of people have moved on, a lot have grown up and changed, and the younger base might vote totally differently.

This is a really good question and we won't know the answer to it until voting begins.
My dark horse for this tournament is GTA: San Andreas. There's no way it's going to win it all but I think it has a shot at winning its division since, IMO, there's no game that really sticks out in it. However, the Grand Theft Auto series has fared very poorly historically in these contests. But the last contest was 5 years ago, so have the voters changed enough to give it a shot? If it's lucky enough to even get past WoW, I could see the voters reverting back to their old GameFAQs selves and voting for Super Mario RPG (which will probably beat GTAV, which shouldn't be a 1 seed) over San Andreas just because it's a Mario title (and not a bad one, but not better than GTA:SA).
Another game that hasn't fared well historically is Super Metroid. Some friends and I have been doing predictions for this contest for fun + Show Spoiler + and we aren't sure what to make of it. Super Metroid has gained a ton of steam in the last five years as speedrunning has become huge with the rise of AGDQ, which has Super Metroid as one of its featured games. I think it easily beats Call Of Duty but a ton of people are picking it to go down to Super Mario Galaxy. Galaxy is a great game but this boggles my mind as Super Metroid is just a classic.
I'm surprised how interested I've been in this contest. The last good statistics that we have are five years old, which is quite a long time. I'm sure there's a lot of people that still go to the site to talk to old friends but there's also a new wave of gamers who go for games like Destiny (which could win that division since it's so wide open) and Skyrim (which is still one of the most popular games on the site). Besides the obvious like OoT, FFVII, Link to the Past, Mario 3, and a few others, I think there's a ton of matches that could surprise some people.
