The day of Gen. Alfons Mais outburst/plea about German armed forces funding and preparedness.
Germany is ready to extend and expand its support of NATO's air policing mission in Romania and also to comply with further requests from the alliance, the German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht announced Thursday.
"I have given (an) order to expand and extend our engagement in the air policing in Romania," Lambrecht told reporters after briefing Germany's parliament defense committee.
Lambrecht added that Germany was also prepared to comply with further NATO requests.
Earlier today, he said in a statement, ''Russia's attack on Ukraine is a drastic breach of international law,'' adding, '' Putin alone is responsible for the terrible suffering that is associated with it.''
Earlier this month, Germany sent three combat aircraft to participate in the NATO mission to protect Romanian airspace. Germany also recently deployed 350 more troops to Lithuania as part of its NATO engagement in addition to its 550 troops which are part of the German-led NATO combat unit.

That a militia like Azov Batallion gets to play a pretty central role in the Ukrainian military force (and while it's the most commonly cited, it's far from the only neo-Nazi militia of relevance) should be a good sign that it's not just a position at the far fringes of society. These groups played an important, if even now poorly understood, role in the 2013-2014 change of power, and there have been at least a couple of times in which they clashed with government forces in a series of not-so-feasible takeover attempts. They're not as irrelevant as they might be in your average first-world country. I'd argue right-wing extremists generally tend to be overrepresented in the military. The same applies to Germany, for example, and nobody in their right mind would say that neo-Nazis have any sort of a hold on German politics. There are political parties in Ukraine directly catering to the likes of Azov. They get about 2-3% support in the elections.
And it's not like Russia has any moral high ground in this regard. It has extensively relied on the Wagner Group in its foreign campaigns. Russia also relies on Kadyrov's extremists. The guy executes gay people for the crime of being gay.

It was already announced earlier, the only option is to stay and defend the city if required. The main goal is to make sure my family is safe, not afraid for myself at this point. The good news is that our army does well up to this point, it's hard to imagine what could happen if we didn't get the drones from Turkey and military aid from US/UK/EU, and it'll be great to even more similar gears for defending purposes. At least this is fair since our country has to fight autocracy to defend democracy. On another topic, here is my 50 cents about nazis in Ukraine. First of all - before events of 2014 we barely had any nazis (mostly in the forms of skinhead gangs etc, just like in most of the countries), but after those events the rise of nationalism was something easy to predict, people were afraid and as we can see there is a particular reason why. And all those groups were considered by the public as a marginal and they will never get a wide support, ever. We are living in a multicultural country, we have no such thing as nazis in a wide sense. As a russian speaking (fluent in both ukrainian & russian) citizen of Kharkiv - I can tell for sure, everything that putin told during his speech is a blatant lie and hypocrisy. Russian speaking citizens of Kharkiv (age varies from 20 to 40 y/o) whom I know will resist from russian peace. There is simply no reasons for war, it's all because of a single madman Stay safe, man.

They're not as irrelevant as they might be in your average first-world country. Fair enough, this is a dynamic I've never really understood. I just find the de-nazification talk so out of place when it comes from Putin who is making moves straight out of the Hitler playbook. For all the concerns about fascism in Ukraine, the response involving a large-scale military operation is definitely out of proportion to an extent well outside of the realm of reason, that much is clearly true. But it definitely should be noted that the fascism problem is real, and it is very often not mentioned or tactically ignored when discussing what Ukraine is actually like. Most people who look closely enough at how that plays out in Ukraine in particular would find it to be deeply unsettling, so the concern is not entirely baseless. Meanwhile Russia and China are both fascist dictatorships...

I'll try to keep updates in regards to the local situation as much as possible, and let's hope there will be tomorrow!
P.S. Zelensky is definitely our best president since independence by far, I can hardy imagine our former presidents dealing with such enormous pressure

So now that it looks like no one is going to help Ukraine, that means it would have been better to just never join NATO right? Was there any situation where they didn't get invaded? I could imagine a situation where Ukraine basically bent the knee but kept their government.

Any situation in which Ukraine moved closer to the West rather then Russia was going to end like this I feel.
And countries naturally want to move West because that is where the prosperity is. Not in an alliance with Russia.
NATO itself has nothing to do with it.

NATO or not, has little to do with this. Ukraine an Russia relationship has been like this for centuries, giving up their nuclear arsenal and hoping the west would hold their own part of the deal was the real mistake.

No idea how accurate this is, can't find the photo it speaks of, but pretty much corelates with what other outlets have said.

At this point, Russia will have to commit to a much larger invasion. May God protect Ukraine.

I know this thread is about Ukraine, but even if Third Ukrainian Front attacked us in 1944, I know that Soviet Russia was really behind this. I'm with Ukraine in this. Really brave people, hopefully Russians fail and at home they see that Putin needs to go. The real issue is normal Russians are so much oppressed and afraid to go out and speak their mind. Instead, the only vocal ones we see in the internet are Kremlin bots and brainwashed by state machine... They should have voted Putin out a long time ago...

Audio emerges appearing to be of Ukrainian fighters defending island from Russian warship From CNN's From Tim Lister in Kyiv and Josh Pennington
An audio clip has emerged of what appears to be an exchange between Ukrainian soldiers on an island in the Black Sea and an officer of the Russian Navy.
All the soldiers — who were defending Snake Island — are reported to have been killed, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"All border guards died heroically but did not give up. They will be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously," Zelensky said. At some point on Thursday, a Russian warship approached the island.
According to the purported audio exchange, the Russian officer says: "This is a military warship. This is a Russian military warship. I suggest you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and needless casualties. Otherwise, you will be bombed." The alleged response from a Ukrainian soldier: "Russian warship, go f*** yourself." Source: https://edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/ukraine-russia-news-02-24-22-intl/index.html
