Several planes have been shot down in the weeks before, some of them at high altitude.
Cant believe that the organization wich isues air restrictions for aircraft didn't close this route.

In order to maintain some kind of respectable thread quality and to show some respect for those who lost friends in this tragedy, we're forced to enact a hard line policy for this thread. Any posts holding an opinion on who is responsible or making an accusation that is not held by neutral media will be banned. Policy is in effect from page 27 onwards. Specifically, citing a Ukrainian or Russian source for your claims is going to get you banned. Opinions/facts/accusations arising from neutral media sources (i.e. media whose country of origin is not Ukraine, Russia or one of its puppet states) will be permitted. This policy extends to all forms of media; if a youtube video or picture has not come through a neutral media source then don't post it or you'll be banned. If you wish to discuss this policy please use this website feedback thread. Updated policy on aggressive posting and insults.

I feel that it wouldn't be an easy task with time ticking on how fast the suppose looting* began. * I don't remember if there was a credible source on this through out the thread.

The Netherlands as the leader of an international investigation that involves Boeing, locals, Malaysians and Russians should be the most likely course of action. There really is no way around any of those being involved.

This is a lifenews broadcast shortly after the plane was shot down. They didn't know yet it was a passenger plane and they are saying that the rebels down a Ukrainian AH-26 transport plane. Once it turned out that this was a commercial plane, the Russian news of course starting saying all sorts of different things. The location they mention (Snizhne) is where the Malaysian flight was shot down and no Ukrainian army planes had been shot down there, thus making it very clear that it is referring to this incident and not a previous incident A rough translation for non-Russian speakers (not mine but from reddit- but I double checked that it's legit): + Show Spoiler + Rebels reporting of hitting down another plane of Ukrainian army, it happened in city Torez, Donetsk republic. It happened in 17:00 p.m Moscow time. Over the city was flying Ukrainian AN-26, suddenly it was hit by a missile , was explosion, plane began to fall. I will add that it happened near city Snezhnoye and Kurgan-mogila, controlled by rebels. User was temp banned for this post.

A London-based correspondent of Kremlin-funded news channel Russia Today has resigned in protest at its coverage of the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17. Sara Firth, who worked at Russia Today for five years, described the channel’s reporting of the crash in which 298 people were killed, including a former BBC journalist, as the “straw that broke the camel’s back”. Russia Today, which has been criticised as a propaganda mouthpiece for the Russian government, suggested Ukraine was to blame for the crash, while most media organisations have said it was shot down by a suspected Russian-made missile.

But soon enough, that record was edited to portray a different side of the story. The same article reports that a Moscow IP address from a computer at VGTRK, the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, replaced the earlier edit with the sentence, "The plane was shot down by Ukrainian soldiers." The discovery was made by a Twitter bot that tracks anonymous Wikipedia edits made from IP addresses used by the Russian government.
