East Asians hate other East Asians. Big surprise. It's bit silly to call those 'protests' though. They're very obviously just riots.

yes because mainland china has 0 territorial conflicts with taiwan, except starting with the island itself...

Oh wow, did it suddenly escalate? I understand the reasons behind this anti-Japan sentiment, as it's sort of a pervasive national disgust and disdain towards Japan as Kwark said. Didn't know that protests were starting though.

pretty funny that every country in that region is claiming the islands and getting all worked up about it calling it whatever its called in their languages. other then fishing and possibly some oil there isn't much i think? looks like an excuse to just riot and cause chaos.

I think Japan should turn the islands over as a gesture of goodwill. They havent done one nice thing for china diplomatically since the end of ww2. And the islands are geographically closer to taiwan than Japan. Japan also signed a treaty saying it would release most of the territory gained in ww2. So I think china has a decent claim, and Japan could go a long way towards mending relations by relinquishing its claim.

I also think handing it over to taiwan would be a brilliant, although politically ruinous, troll move.

You guys don't seem to understand that a lot of the anger is generated from the ground up, not from the Chinese government. In the past the government did try to use anti-Japanese sentiment and nationalism to distract from domestic issues, but for the past decade they've pretty much been trying to control the anti-Japanese sentiment because of the importance of trade with Japan. There seems to be some ignorance regarding how the average Chinese person feels about what happened in WW2. They never got a single bit of what Jewish holocaust survivors got in terms of catharsis and Japan didn't do any of the things Germany did to show remorse. Not that the modern Japanese government is evil or something, but they sure are dumb for not following Germany's lead on how to apologize and move past the atrocities they committed.

this is so dumb. make no sense at all. this all started because of the islands that they're fighting over, and all of a sudden u have a bunch of people who decides that NOW they should be anti-japanese. NOT when japan took over china during ww2, but when they're fighting over retarded islands.

ya its great to trash japanese imports. but they dont think oh a CHINESE person bought that shit with their money. who exactly are they hurting? definitely not the japanese.

Why? Does China not recognize Taiwan as an independent country? Doesn't Taiwan call itself the "real" Republic of China?
It is easy to claim something, I'd like to hear some arguments to back it up.
A quick search on the wiki says there's oil near those islands. Well, I guess this explains why Japan is reluctant to give control of it.
Please correct me if I am wrong obviously.

EDIT2:
In my first edit I've changed "Doesn't" to "does", changing the meaning of the sentence. I do know that China doesn't recognize Taiwan.
Sorry for the that!

The Yakusuni shrine is for all Japanese war dead. I don't think Japanese should shut themselves off from it because that includes war criminals. Every nation has a shipload of war criminals that were never caught or never prosecuted who died for their country as well and no one gets in a big huff about them honoring their war dead... except when it's convenient, of course.

To be honest learning about Japanese conduct in world war two and the lack of a national self examining in the wake of the second world war kind of justifies anti-Japanese feelings. Imperial Japan was a diseased nation, akin to 1930s Germany, the difference is that Germany has swallowed its pride and learned to accept and learn from its past whereas Japan preferred self pity and denial.

To be honest China is more like Imperial (Kaiser Wilhelm) Germany in the way it looks at and deals with the world than anything else, the Communist Party would just make shit up to get people to hate Japan if they didn't already have good reasons from the past. Japan in WW2 is a smokescreen for confrontational Chinese nationalist ambition. Japan being a murderous brute of a bully doesn't justify China being a bully today.

Japan bent itself over more than any country in history after WW2 (yeah we Americans put a gun to their head but they did do it) and gets little credit for it from the rest of Asia.

Japan ran riot and raped the shit out of east asia and southeast asia. They would care that Japan bent the knee to America because why?

Because they did what they had to do to prove they wouldn't run riot and rape the shit out of east and southeast Asia anymore. If the Chinese want to use resentment not to keep Japan from doing it again but simply as a power move, they shouldn't get a free pass on it.

First I've heard of free pass' for the CCP. Uhhh did you you read any of the responses about why exactly the rest of asia hates Japans guts?

I know why the rest of Asia hates Japan's guts, sorry. I don't think it's right that whenever it is convenient for the rest of Asia, everything that's happened after WW2 gets ignored so Japan can get bashed.

USA ---> Soldiers occupying multiple hostile countries, turns a stable country into an ethnic slaughterhouse, bullying everyone in sight that it feels might be a threat to them. Protectors of the world !!
China --> Finally flexes it's muscles after getting bullied for a few hundred years to get back a few islands that belonged to them (and maybe a couple more). Dat imperialism, gotta stop this confrontational Chinese nationalist ambition !!

That ignorance.

Which side fought to stop that "stable" (hahahaha) country from turning into an ethnic slaughterhouse? Who was blowing up trucks in marketplaces? Who was using children to get car bombs past checkpoints, and leaving the children in the cars when they were blown up? Who was chaining people to steering wheels and threatening to murder their families if they didn't agree with being a suicide bomber chained to the steering wheel?

Which country is automatically looked to to provide the muscle - economic, diplomatic, and military - for the internationalist order?

Which country has been raping Tibet for 60 years? Which country backed Kim il-Sung with soldiers and guns? Which country tried to do the same thing to Mongolia it did to Tibet? Which country saber-rattled for 20 years by randomly shelling Quemoy and Matsu whenever the urge took it?

That ignorance of US bashers, gotta love it.

It's different, because Taiwan is kind of China, so people don't get too upset over it because they expect that it'll one day go back to them. Plus, Taiwan didn't commit all those war crimes. You definitely won't see these huge riots of boycotts if the dispute was with Taiwan.

I never said anything the rioters do are logical or productive. But it is unsurprising given how Japan has handled the whole issue.

Why can't the islands just have sovereignty over themselves, if everyone claims them but clearly none has them.

i definitely didnt see shit like this in the past, not until the issues with the islands came up more recently. feel free to link large scale anti-japanese riots like there are now where store are getting smashed, people's properties are getting destoryed because of their japanese brand anywhere from last year and back.

Likewise. I mean, seeing a single mad man shoot up a movie theatre or a bunch of faux-islamic wackos circle-jerking to 9/11 tapes is bad enough.
But entire civilizations that are corrupted? That's just a thousand times worse.
