you guys in your little circle jerk keep telling each other that.

LoL is DotA with training wheels. the little kiddies feel so grown up when they play, it's pretty cute actually.

SC2 is like Starcraft for toddlers.

you're not going to hurt my feelings by attacking SC2, as Im not a particularly great fan of that game. I still prefer BW to SC2.

LoL is very different then other free games before lol. LoL is not a game that can lose popularity fast, mostly because its so dam addicting and everchanging. I got the game in closed beta, have played over 2 thousand games over almost 3 years now and still play leagues on a somewhat regularly basis.

Like exactly this kind of comments make no sense. How does it have no competitive aspect? Of course it does, it even has multiple different ranked ladders, where you can actually see your position in comparison to the entire game population(not just a single league). Just because a game is fun to play doesn't mean that it isn't competitive. And again I'd like to point out that SC2 actually casualizes itself far more than LoL.

Ranked ladders? I have friends who played DotA/HoN who played LoL for 2 weeks and hit top 10 on the LoL 'competitive rankings' just to prove how big of a joke it is. The game is completely dumbed down for casual play and almost every competitive aspect of DotA was removed for the making of LoL. When are YOU and the rest of the LoL fan base going to realize Riot games is simply sucking up all the profits they can.

Mikey that is a complete lie. To even be able to get on the ranked ladder you have to be level 30 which takes far more then 2 weeks and then when you have reached level 30 your looking at atleast a 100 games (if you win more then twice as much as you lose) to get to a high place in the ladder..

lets say your friend never loses, or loses very rarely cause *lol is so easy* you are looking at 200 games (to get to 30 then to get to top 10), and lets say each game is 35 min (now im bad at math) but thats what 120 hours of gaming?

Your friend can play for 120 hours in 2 weeks?

I really don't think it takes that long to get to 30, I have seen people get smurfs there in under a week. It's like what, 100 games? That's 60 hours, less than most hardcore DotA players play per week. Some weeks I'll play a game for over 100 hours. It's not really far-fetched.

Anyway, it should be obvious to everybody that LoL is a less deep game than DotA. I am a DotA player but I do enjoy LoL, but every time I play it I find myself trying to do things that are not possible like deny and juke, and I need to remind myself to play far less actively since active play is not rewarded in LoL. Meanwhile, when I play LoL for awhile and switch back to DotA, I find myself forgetting how to do these simple things, and my last hitting suffers.

Riot is a great company and I wish them the best, I see this as a good sign for DotA since eventually DotA2 will overtake LoL in competitive popularity, and we'll be the ones getting all that $$$.

(Edit: misphrased, of course DotA is already far more popular competitively. I meant from a spectator standpoint.)

It takes that long to get to 30...if you don't even know you must not be 30 in LoL so when you are playing you are playing normals.

Playing actively in LoL is rewarded, harrassing and pushing lanes roaming and ganking especially from mid lane is all rewarded. You not even being 30 are just another hater who doesn't really play but plays a couple games and thinks they understand.

Also, LoL is much prettier than DotA. DotA is a fugly game that is hard on the eyes. LoL is vibrant and colorful and different spells and actions are much more easily distinguishable to the untrained eye.

WHAT ?

i love dota and got eye cancer when i tried LoL...

i guess you like what you play

sorry that your shitty sc2 game sucks, brood war was 100x better and that garbage game takes no skill and has no viewership qualities. sorry to break it to you.

Every point in your post manages to contradict one another and be wrong at the same time. Good job.

Why so

1 and 2 It snowballs hard because there is no great big equalizer aka ganking.
The rest i do not understand how it does not make sense to you.

DotA/HoN has 10x more snowballing than LoL...pebbles mid with 4 kills early game? have fucking fun getting insta gibbed once he gets pkey...LoL? only a few champs can snowball...and NOT as hard at all. Ziggs is prob the best IMO for mid, love my build with him. 3 rings, boots, then large rod. Q can 4 hit most squishies then, and ez as shit to farm.

Actually LoL snowballs harder. Once you have the mapcontrol, you'll never let it go and never lose a dragon/baron.

Hmmmm, what does "it's not fun to watch" have to do with "misinformed"? "it's not fun to watch" is entirely subjective and up to personal oppinion if you like it or not. I, personally, cannot stand to watch it (I freely admit to not having a clue about Lol or any other Moba game, so I won't presume to say I can judge if it's easy or not). But I am still happy for the Lol-guys, that's a big win for eSports

Understand that when the sensible folks say that LoL is easy.. we mean that LoL is in fact an easier game compared to SC/DotA. Thinking otherwise is simply not true. And this is coming from a current fan of LoL.

But here is the thing, just because the game is easy does not mean that it is noncompetitive. In fact, i doubt anyone would say a game like Chess or Poker is noncompetitive/easy but in terms of pre-set mechanical skills necessary to play the game they both require absolutely none...

Actually, I do find LoL competitive... but I feel that the play shown by the top professional teams pale in comparison with those shown by SC/DotA... but that could be attributed to the Korean SC / Chinese DotA training? Mmm

Hockey is much harder to play than Football or any other sport. Does the fact that you need to be able to skate and stick handle make it a better competitve sport than any other sport?

Ummm... no it doesn't.... And this is coming from someone who absolutely adores hockey in every way possible. OMG SOCCER SO MUCH EASIER TO PLAY THAN HOCKEY!!! THE WORLD FULL OF CASUALS!!!

Amirite?

This topic is nothing but people flaming LoL for being bad. Then the LoL players retort saying SC2 is easy. How the fuck has this not been closed after 43 pages of this?

LoL takes some getting used to to watch, it's quite a mess in team battles but there are exciting moments. At first I didn't enjoy watching it at all (thought it was awful) but it has grown on me. I hate how one sided almost all the games are though. There is rarely any excitement of "i don't know who's going to win" from what i've seen. I hate the 15+ minute farm fest at the begining but that's ok really, usually can be ganks and stuff.

Playing it is dead easy though, i know that there is a nice skill ceiling but it's really really easy to play. Which is the alure of it, at all play levels you can have good/bad games and as you get higher there are alot more things to learn/improve upon.

I'm hoping Dota2 picks up alot, there are so many things in DOTA that got removed from LoL to make it ALOT easier (gold loss on death, CC items that you can but, anti-cc items, on-use effects, denying creep exp, can't remember for sure but I think there were no wards in dota ethier so you had to have much better map awareness, creeps were stronger so you didn't just dive heros @ level 2-3 and kill them potentially...i dunno a ton more stuff i think)

See where the future goes, anything that promotes more esports tournaments is fine by me.

You're an idiot. I was in LoL since the original beta and have played two accounts to 30 with 1200 games played. Sorry for not knowing the exact number of games required to hit 30, since I last did it over two years ago. Must mean I know nothing about the game.

Oh goodie, your video game is arbitrarily harder than mine because you have to prioritize a different skillset, you are a big boy.

When's the last time you won a major tournament in Dota?

It's just awful when people lean on the inherent mechanical challenges of a game as if that justifies their own mediocrity in a game where your opponents are other humans.

"I'm average at a hard game, which definitely makes me really good at this supposedly easier game" is the mentality of gaming elitists who talk a lot about how hard their game is without ever getting close to the pinnacle it.

I have a question for those of you who are saying LoL is such a low skill game:

Now, I really dislike LoL and vastly prefer DOTA2. However, how does it have such a thriving professional scene with really dominant teams if it is supposedly such a low skill game? Regardless of what people are saying, teams are able to distinguish themselves and rise above the others. How come?

Every time me and my friends play Generals: Zero Hour i win 100% of games, simply by being so much better than them at it. Now that is a game with a super ultra low skill ceiling, but that doesn't mean that it's impossible to be better than anyone else at it. A BW pro would play it for 15min and instantly be better than me probably, to me that screams a low skill ceiling if you can "master" the game so easily.
If you just gave every player 5 marines and a medivac the mechanical skill ceiling (not in the way we normally use the word) would be impossible for a human being. Still doesn't make it either competitive, fun to watch or suited for an E-sport.

and btw. all the LOL guys comparing DOTA/LOL with BW/Sc2 have probably never played dota...

it would be possible if Sc2 had no more upgrades, no more caster units and just minerals or something ....
